To debug a locally served website on a real Android phone, connect the phone to your computer with a USB data cable, enable Android USB debugging, and inspect its Chrome tabs from desktop Chrome at chrome://inspect/#devices. To load your computer’s development server on the phone, use Chrome’s USB port forwarding, then visit the mapped device-side localhost port in Android Chrome.
Choose the right connection method
| Need | Method | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Inspect a page already open on Android, or test a standard local server | Chrome remote debugging and USB port forwarding | Lets desktop DevTools inspect Android Chrome tabs and routes a device port to a server port on the computer. |
| Test a site that depends on a custom local hostname | Proxy-based custom-domain mapping | Routes the custom hostname through a proxy; it requires extra configuration and must be undone after testing. |
| Connect directly to Chrome DevTools Protocol (CDP), for example for specialized access or automation | Manual adb forwarding | Forwards Chrome’s debugging socket to a local TCP port. Chrome describes this as a less common alternative. |
The steps below use Chrome’s documented workflows for Windows, macOS, and Linux development computers. The remote-debugging guide was last updated April 13, 2015, and the local-server port-forwarding guide December 5, 2023; labels can vary with Chrome and Android versions. See Chrome’s remote-debugging guide and Chrome’s local-server port-forwarding guide.
Inspect an Android Chrome tab from your computer
- Enable Android debugging. On the phone, enable Developer Options and USB debugging. Android’s menus differ by device; use Android’s Developer Options instructions if you need help finding them.
- Open the device inspector. In desktop Chrome, go to
chrome://inspect/#devicesand make sure Discover USB devices is selected. - Connect the phone. Use a USB cable that supports data, connect directly to the computer, and unlock the phone. If Android asks whether to allow USB debugging, approve the prompt.
- Select the tab. Open Chrome on Android. The desktop page should show the device and its open Chrome tabs. Click Inspect beside the page you want to debug; a DevTools window opens on the computer.
- Debug the page. Use Elements to inspect and edit the page’s DOM and styles. If you use the selection tool, you may need to re-enable it after each touch.
The Android Chrome version determines which DevTools version opens on the computer, so the interface may differ from the DevTools you normally use with desktop pages. Screencast lets you view and interact with the phone’s page on the computer: clicks act as taps and computer keystrokes go to the device. Chrome warns that screencasting can reduce frame rates, so turn it off when measuring animation or scrolling performance.
Open your computer’s local website on Android
Typing localhost on Android ordinarily points to the phone, not your development computer. USB port forwarding bridges that gap: it maps a port on the phone to an address and port on your computer. Chrome says this traffic travels over USB, so it does not depend on your network configuration.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
- Complete the USB debugging setup above and confirm the phone appears at
chrome://inspect/#devices. - In the device inspector, open Port forwarding and enable port forwarding. Chrome’s example mapping is
localhost:8080. - Add a mapping: enter the port you want to use on Android as the device port, and enter the computer-side server address and port as the local address. For example, map device port
5000to computer addresslocalhost:5000. - On Android Chrome, browse to
http://localhost:5000, replacing5000with the device-side port you mapped. Your development server must be running on the computer at the mapped local address and port.
If you use different ports on either side, enter the Android-side port in the phone’s URL; the forwarding row connects it to the computer-side destination. Check the forwarding status indicator in the device UI if the page does not load.
Test a custom local hostname
A project that relies on a hostname such as chrome.devtools needs more than a plain localhost mapping. Chrome’s documented approach uses a hosts-file entry on the development computer and a proxy to make the custom domain reachable from Android.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
- Add a hosts-file entry on the computer that maps the custom hostname to localhost.
- Run a proxy on the computer, such as Charles, Squid, or Fiddler. The proxy and development web server must listen on different ports.
- In
chrome://inspect/#devices, enable USB port forwarding for the proxy’s port. - On Android, edit the connected Wi-Fi network’s proxy settings: choose manual configuration, set the proxy host to
localhost, and use the forwarded device-side proxy port. - Open the custom hostname in Android Chrome. If the web server uses a non-standard port, include it in the URL, for example
http://chrome.devtools:3000. - When finished, restore the Android Wi-Fi network’s proxy settings so normal browsing no longer routes through the development proxy.
Menu names for Android proxy settings vary by device and Android version. The important values are the proxy host and the forwarded device-side proxy port; do not enter the web server’s port there unless it is also the proxy port.
Use adb forwarding for direct CDP access
Most developers should start with chrome://inspect/#devices. For cases that need direct Chrome DevTools Protocol access, Chrome documents forwarding the Android Chrome debugging socket with adb. Install and make adb available on the development computer, enable USB debugging, connect the device, and run:

adb devices -l
adb forward tcp:9222 localabstract:chrome_devtools_remote
The first command lists attached devices; confirm the phone is listed and authorized. The second forwards the device’s Chrome DevTools socket to computer port 9222. Then open http://localhost:9222/json to list page targets. The browser target endpoint is available at http://localhost:9222/json/version. The port is Chrome’s documented example, not a performance or capacity figure. See Chrome’s adb forwarding instructions for the connection details.
Troubleshoot connection and page-loading failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| Phone does not appear in the device inspector | USB data connection or discovery issue | Connect directly rather than through a hub; unplug and reconnect with both screens unlocked. Try file access from the computer to confirm the cable supports data. |
| Phone is listed as offline or waiting for authorization | Android has not approved this computer for debugging | Unlock the phone and accept its USB debugging prompt. If no prompt appears, reconnect with desktop DevTools focused and the Android home screen visible, and check that the phone does not sleep during setup. |
| Windows still does not detect the phone | A device-specific USB driver may be required | Install the phone manufacturer’s USB driver if that model requires one. |
| No authorization prompt appears | USB mode or saved authorization state may be interfering | Chrome’s guide suggests trying PTP USB mode or revoking USB debugging authorizations, then reconnecting and approving the prompt. Exact Android settings vary by device. |
| Android cannot load the local page | Forwarding is disabled, the device-side port is wrong, or the server address or port is mismatched | Confirm port forwarding is enabled, open the device-side port in Android Chrome, and verify that the computer-side destination matches the running server. Check the forwarding status indicator. |
| Custom hostname does not resolve or reach the site | Hostname, proxy, or port mapping is incomplete | Use the proxy-based mapping procedure, keep proxy and server ports distinct, and include the non-standard web-server port in the Android URL when needed. |
| Scrolling or animation appears slower while mirrored | Screencast can reduce frame rates | Turn screencast off before measuring scrolling or animation performance. |

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Chrome DevTools to inspect an Android page without a USB cable?
Chrome documents adb over Wi-Fi as an option for the manual CDP workflow, but the standard device-inspector steps here use a USB connection.
Does port forwarding make Android localhost point to my computer everywhere?
No. It routes the specific device-side port you configure to the specified computer-side address and port while forwarding is enabled.
