Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallUse cy.get('[data-cy="submit"]') for a stable test hook, and use cy.contains('button', 'Submit') when the button’s wording is part of what the test needs to verify. Scope queries to the right part of the page with .within() or .find(), and remember that Cypress queries retry while waiting—but do not automatically cross iframe boundaries.
Choose a selector that matches what the test should verify
A selector is part of the test’s intent. Decide whether the test should fail if the text changes, or whether it should continue to target the same control regardless of copy or styling.
| Locator | Use it when | Tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
[data-cy="..."] or another dedicated data-* hook |
The test needs a stable identity independent of CSS styling and incidental text changes. | You need to add and maintain test attributes in the application markup. |
cy.contains(...) |
The visible wording itself matters to the behavior under test. | Copy or localization changes can break the locator; the command yields at most one element. |
findByRole or findByLabelText through Cypress Testing Library |
You want to locate a control through accessibility-oriented semantics. | The query method alone does not establish complete accessibility conformance. |
| CSS tag, class, or ID selector | The attribute is intentionally part of the behavior being tested, or no better hook is available. | Generic tags and styling classes are brittle; IDs can be coupled to application behavior. |
Cypress recommends test-specific data attributes to isolate selectors from CSS or JavaScript changes. Its best-practices page calls [data-cy="submit"] a preferred choice; it does not say IDs are always invalid, but treats them as a sparing-use option. See Cypress best practices: Selecting Elements.
Use a data attribute for a stable target
Add a deliberate hook to the markup:
<button data-cy="submit">Submit</button>
Then query and interact with it:
cy.get('[data-cy="submit"]')
.should('be.enabled')
.click()
This keeps the locator independent of styling classes and lets the button label change without silently changing the target—useful when the test is about behavior rather than copy.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Use visible text when the wording matters
If the test should fail when the button no longer says “Submit,” locate it by text:
cy.contains('button', 'Submit').click()
The first argument constrains candidates to buttons, which helps when the same text appears in nested markup or other element types. cy.contains() yields at most one matching element. It is case-sensitive by default; use matchCase: false if case should not matter. Cypress also notes that contains can yield a hidden element, so assert visibility explicitly when visibility is part of the requirement:

cy.contains('button', 'Submit').should('be.visible').click()
For translated interfaces, choose intentionally: a text locator tests a particular localized string, while a data attribute can continue to target the same underlying control. Cypress discusses text queries and localization in its Introduction to Cypress.
Scope selectors to the intended part of the page
By default, cy.get() starts from the application document. Inside a .within() callback, Cypress queries use that callback’s subject. By contrast, .find() searches descendants of the current subject. Choose based on where the target should be found; a fresh cy.get() outside .within() may match an element elsewhere on the page.

Use .within() for several queries in a container
cy.get('[data-cy="account-form"]').within(() => {
cy.get('[data-cy="email"]').type('reader@example.test')
cy.get('[data-cy="save"]').click()
})
This makes the form the query scope for both controls, avoiding accidental matches elsewhere.
Use .find() for a descendant query
cy.get('[data-cy="account-form"]')
.find('[data-cy="email"]')
.type('reader@example.test')
Use .first() or .eq(index) when position is genuinely the intended distinction. Cypress’s cy.get() documentation recommends these chains as clearer than jQuery positional selector extensions.

Understand retries and DOM boundaries
Cypress queries retry while waiting for matching elements, and chained assertions retry until they pass or the command times out. The configured command timeout therefore affects how long a query can wait; retrying does not make a selector correct, nor does it expand the DOM it searches. The cy.get() API documents the query’s scope and retry behavior.
- Iframe:
cy.get()does not search inside an iframe’s document. A selector that works in the main document will not cross that boundary automatically. - Shadow DOM: Use an explicit
.shadow()traversal or the documentedincludeShadowDomoption for supported queries. Cypress’s cy.contains() documentation describes these approaches. - Generated selectors: Cypress Studio or
cy.prompt()selector priorities can be configured withCypress.ElementSelector.defaults(), but Cypress labels selector priority as under active development. Check the documentation for the Cypress release installed in your project before relying on generated-selector behavior; see Cypress.ElementSelector.
Troubleshoot selectors that fail
- No elements found: Check the selector spelling and attribute value, confirm the element has rendered, and verify that the query starts from the intended scope. A failed query reports its selector and timeout.
- The wrong matching element is found: Scope the query to a container using
.within()or.find(), or constraincy.contains()with an element selector such as'button'. - Text query behaves unexpectedly:
cy.contains()is case-sensitive by default and can yield a hidden match. UsematchCase: falseif appropriate, and assertbe.visiblewhen visibility matters. - A later contains query cannot see its target: Avoid chaining multiple
contains()calls when the first result changes the scope. Select the intended container explicitly, then query within it. - Element is inside an iframe or shadow root: Check the DOM boundary rather than increasing the wait time. Cypress does not search iframe documents with
cy.get(); shadow DOM requires explicit traversal or the relevant include-shadow option. - Generated locator changes between Cypress releases: Treat generated selector priorities as version-sensitive and confirm the current
Cypress.ElementSelectordocumentation for your installed version.

If the task is to capture a website rather than write a Cypress test, ScreenshotNeo returns a screenshot or PDF from one GET request. It accepts cookie and consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and the response identifies page verdict and billing status in headers.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Cypress automatically search inside an iframe with cy.get()?
No. Cypress’s documented cy.get() query does not descend into iframe documents.
Should every Cypress selector use a data-cy attribute?
No. Use a dedicated data attribute for a stable target; use cy.contains() when the wording itself is part of the behavior the test should verify.
