Fix AngularJS cross-browser issues by reproducing the failure, identifying whether it comes from AngularJS, application code, browser support, or the network, and then testing a targeted fix across your actual browser and device support matrix. AngularJS support officially ended in January 2022, so check each recommendation against your app’s precise AngularJS version and locked dependencies. AngularJS is not a guarantee that every part of an application works identically in every browser.
Start with a browser support matrix and a reproducible failure
There is no practical way to promise support for every browser, operating system, device, and version. Agree with product owners on the combinations that matter to users, including accessibility needs, and record why each is included. Do not apply modern Angular browser-support guidance to AngularJS; they are different framework generations.
For every reported issue, capture enough information for another developer to reproduce it:
- Page URL or screen, expected result, actual result, and precise reproduction steps.
- Browser name and version, operating system, device, and viewport dimensions.
- Console errors and relevant failed or unexpected network requests.
- Whether the same browser behaves differently on another platform, or adjacent browser versions reproduce the issue.
MDN recommends collecting platform, device, and browser-version details and trying similar configurations to narrow down a failure. Its cross-browser testing guidance was modified on September 4, 2026: Introduction to cross-browser testing.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Classify the failure before changing code
Reproduce the defect, then inspect both the UI and the browser’s console and network panels. A visual mismatch is not automatically an AngularJS bug: HTML, CSS, viewport differences, unsupported browser features, or device constraints may be responsible.
| Failure layer | What to inspect | Likely direction |
|---|---|---|
| Application code or rendering | DOM, styles, viewport, and the exact interaction that differs. | Correct the markup, CSS, or application logic; avoid a browser-specific branch unless evidence requires one. |
| Browser feature support | The specific JavaScript, CSS, or web API feature used by the failing code. | Check compatibility for the target browser versions, then use feature detection and a polyfill, alternate implementation, or acceptable fallback. |
| AngularJS behavior | Interpolated attributes, model updates from callbacks, and documented version-specific edge cases. | Use the appropriate AngularJS directive or execution-context handling described below. |
| Dependency behavior | The dependency version, its browser requirements, and its interaction with the app’s locked AngularJS version. | Confirm compatibility before upgrading or replacing a dependency. |
| Network or security policy | Failed template/API requests, origin, response headers, CORS, and whether the app was opened with file://. |
Correct deployment or server configuration where appropriate; do not disguise a security policy as a rendering defect. |
Apply AngularJS-specific fixes only when they match the symptom
Use directives for interpolated URL attributes
For values AngularJS fills in dynamically, use ngHref, ngSrc, and ngSrcset rather than placing interpolation directly in href, src, or srcset. These directives prevent the browser from acting on the literal template text before AngularJS updates the attribute.
<a ng-href="{{ destination }}">Open</a>
<img ng-src="{{ imageUrl }}" alt="">
<img ng-srcset="{{ imageCandidates }}" alt="">
AngularJS documents these and other browser-sensitive behaviors in its API documentation. Confirm that the behavior applies to the AngularJS version the application actually runs.

Check documented edge cases, not blanket workarounds
- IE textarea placeholder interpolation: AngularJS documents an
ng-attr-placeholderworkaround for a textarea placeholder that contains interpolation. Use it only when this documented case matches the symptom. - Safari invalid-date JSON serialization: The AngularJS API notes a Safari issue involving JSON serialization of invalid dates. Verify the input and serialization path before changing date handling.
- HTML5 number inputs: The API documents
ngModelOptions.allowInvalidas relevant to number-input behavior. Check the model’s validation and parsing requirements before enabling it.
These are documented edge cases, not universal compatibility switches; consult the API docs for the app’s exact release.
Enter AngularJS execution context for external callbacks when necessary
A callback from a raw browser API or a non-AngularJS library may change a model without AngularJS noticing. If that is the demonstrated cause, call $apply() to enter AngularJS execution context:
externalLibrary.onChange(function (value) {
$scope.$apply(function () {
$scope.value = value;
});
});
First check whether the callback is already invoked through an AngularJS directive or service; an unnecessary extra digest call can cause errors or redundant work. See the AngularJS scope guide.

Check browser features and choose a maintainable fallback
Look up the exact feature used by the failing code in MDN’s browser compatibility data, checking the browser versions in your support matrix rather than relying on a broad browser-name claim. Prefer feature detection over user-agent sniffing: test whether the capability is present, then select the supported path.
If a target browser lacks the feature, choose among a suitable polyfill, another implementation, or a fallback that preserves the required behavior. Compare options by whether they restore behavior across the required matrix, their maintenance burden and browser-specific complexity, their performance and accessibility on constrained devices, security implications, and test coverage. A polyfill can provide an API but cannot eliminate the performance limits of old hardware or browsers.

Separate template and API loading failures from browser rendering
For ngInclude template failures
ngInclude loads a template over HTTP. Same-origin policy, CORS configuration, and opening an application through file:// can affect whether that request succeeds. Inspect the request and its response in the network panel; test the app through its intended web server and configure the server’s origin policy where needed. See the AngularJS ngInclude documentation.

For $http cross-origin requests
AngularJS $http uses the browser’s XMLHttpRequest or JSONP mechanisms. Cross-origin XSRF headers are not sent by default. If a request fails, check the server response, origin, and request type before changing client code. AngularJS allows additional origins to be trusted for XSRF handling, but trust only origins you control and understand; never add arbitrary origins to make an error disappear. See the AngularJS $http documentation.
Retest the fix across the agreed matrix
Test incrementally instead of waiting until the end of a change. Start with a small reliable set of stable desktop browsers and relevant mobile platforms, then run the full support matrix for release-critical flows. Repeat regression checks in browsers where the issue was not first observed.
- For visual symptoms, compare screenshots at the same viewport and device scale where possible.
- For functional symptoms, replay the same steps and verify expected state changes and network results.
- For core flows, include keyboard operation and screen-reader checks.
- Record browser, version, platform, viewport, and test result so future reports can be compared.
Local devices, emulators or virtual machines, and hosted browser/device services have different trade-offs in target coverage, fidelity, automation and CI fit, setup effort, and budget. MDN names Sauce Labs and BrowserStack as commercial automation options; verify their current plans and availability directly before choosing a service. AngularJS’s repository describes its own historical test setup, but that is not a requirement to adopt Karma or Protractor today: select tooling compatible with your locked dependencies and browser environment. See the AngularJS repository.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does using AngularJS make an application cross-browser compatible automatically?
No. AngularJS provides some cross-browser DOM handling, but application code, dependencies, browser features, and server policies still need testing.
Should I use browser-name checks to fix AngularJS compatibility?
Prefer feature detection or a narrowly verified bug condition. Browser-name branches can affect browsers that do not share the underlying limitation.
Can a screenshot prove that a fix works in every browser?
No. Screenshots help compare visual output, but they do not replace functional, accessibility, network, and device testing across the agreed matrix.
