You can automate repeatable accessibility checks in mobile UI tests, but automation alone does not test an app with a screen reader or prove it is accessible. Use iOS accessibility audits and Android framework checks to catch issues during development, then complete important tasks with VoiceOver or TalkBack.
Build a layered testing workflow
- List important tasks by screen. Identify what a person needs to do on each screen, such as signing in, searching, changing a setting, or completing a purchase. Use those tasks to decide which screens need automated checks and which journeys need screen-reader walkthroughs. Apple’s accessibility testing guidance recommends identifying the main tasks in an app and working through them with assistive technologies.
- Add platform-supported checks to UI tests. On iOS, run XCTest accessibility audits on screens reached by important workflows. On Android, use Espresso accessibility checks for Views or test Compose semantics and properties in Compose UI tests.
- Walk through key tasks with the actual screen reader. Test with VoiceOver on a physical iOS device and TalkBack on Android. Check that a person can navigate, understand the information announced for controls, and finish the task.
- Fix findings and rerun both layers. Treat audit output as actionable feedback about the checks performed—not as certification. Retest the affected screen with automation and repeat the relevant assistive-technology task.
The layers find different classes of problems: automated checks can catch supported issues consistently, while a real screen-reader walkthrough exercises navigation and task completion as a user experiences them.
Automate iOS checks with XCTest accessibility audits
Apple documents calling performAccessibilityAudit(for:) on an XCUIApplication in an XCTest UI test. The audit inspects the current screen, and the test fails when it finds audit issues. Put an audit after the test has navigated to each screen you want to inspect; a single call does not audit every screen in the app.
import XCTest
final class AccessibilityUITests: XCTestCase {
func testCheckoutScreensPassAccessibilityAudit() throws {
let app = XCUIApplication()
app.launch()
// Navigate to a screen in the workflow before auditing it.
app.buttons["Shop"].tap()
try app.performAccessibilityAudit()
app.buttons["Checkout"].tap()
try app.performAccessibilityAudit()
}
}
Use accessibility identifiers or stable labels for navigation in your test suite. The example assumes the app exposes a button labelled “Shop” and then a “Checkout” button; adapt those selectors and steps to the app’s actual interface. Keep the test focused on reachable screens rather than calling the audit only at launch.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android.You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Apple’s audit report can be saved and includes issue descriptions and fix suggestions. An audit pass is useful evidence about the audit checks on the screens exercised, but Apple explicitly cautions that eliminating audit findings does not guarantee a fully accessible app. Its guidance says: “Always test your app with various assistive apps, such as VoiceOver, to make sure there are no problems.” See Performing accessibility audits for your app.
Automate Android checks based on your UI framework
Android Views with Espresso
For apps using Views and Espresso, enable AccessibilityChecks so checks run alongside view actions. By default, the checks cover the view acted on and its descendants. If the test should inspect the full screen hierarchy, configure checks to use the root view as well. This scope distinction matters: a passing local check is not necessarily a whole-screen audit.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Android’s documented setup uses the Accessibility Test Framework through Espresso. Follow the current Android guidance for the dependency and initialization supported by your project rather than copying a dependency version from an unrelated sample. See Test your app’s accessibility.
Jetpack Compose
For Compose UI tests, interact with semantic elements and assert the properties that matter to the task and user experience. Android documents Accessibility Test Framework checks with Compose beginning in Compose 1.8.0. That is the minimum Compose version stated for the documented integration, not a claim that every accessibility check or issue is covered.

Compose tests should verify meaningful semantics, not only that a node exists or can be clicked. Check that controls expose the expected role, label, and state where relevant, and that the test can perform the task through semantic interactions. Consult Android’s Compose accessibility testing guidance for current APIs and setup.
Test actual screen-reader journeys manually
VoiceOver on iOS
Apple says VoiceOver is not available in Simulator, so the manual VoiceOver portion requires installing the app on a physical iOS device. Work through the important tasks using VoiceOver rather than switching it off to finish a test. Observe whether focus moves in a useful order, controls are announced with understandable information, and the task can be completed. Apple’s task-oriented guidance is at Performing accessibility testing for your app.

TalkBack on Android
Use Android’s built-in TalkBack screen reader to complete the same priority journeys. Check navigation, the information announced for interactive elements, and whether the user can complete the task without relying on visual-only cues. Android notes that automated tools cannot catch some problems that occur only at runtime, which is why manual testing complements framework checks. See Android accessibility testing guidance.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choose the right check for the question
| Method | Best use | Scope and limitation |
|---|---|---|
| XCTest accessibility audit | Automated iOS checks in UI-test workflows | Inspects the current screen; Apple says passing audits do not guarantee full accessibility. |
| Espresso AccessibilityChecks | Android apps using Views | Runs around view actions; defaults to the action view and descendants, with root-hierarchy configuration available. |
| Compose semantics and accessibility checks | Android apps using Jetpack Compose | UI tests interact with semantic elements and assert properties; documented Accessibility Test Framework integration starts with Compose 1.8.0. |
| VoiceOver and TalkBack walkthroughs | Validating real assistive-technology use on key tasks | Exercises task navigation with the screen reader; VoiceOver testing requires a physical iOS device, and automated tools miss some runtime issues. |
These methods should not be ranked by a detection percentage: the cited platform guidance does not establish comparable detection rates. Choose according to platform, UI framework, screen or hierarchy scope, and whether you need to exercise the actual screen reader through a workflow.

Triage failures and keep the test suite useful
- Read the specific finding. Use the audit or framework feedback to identify the affected control and the issue reported; on iOS, retain the audit report and its fix suggestions.
- Reproduce in context. Navigate to the reported screen in the app and determine whether the issue affects the task or the information exposed to assistive technology.
- Fix the underlying interface or semantics. Avoid treating a muted check or a test-only workaround as a product fix unless the finding is genuinely inapplicable.
- Rerun the automated check and the relevant journey. A passing rerun only speaks to the checks and path exercised, so keep manual screen-reader coverage for important tasks.
