1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesIf you need to save a web page as one self-contained HTML file, Save Page WE is the closest alternative to SingleFile: its listing says it saves the page as displayed into a single HTML file and supports individual pages, selected pages, URL lists, and command-line workflows. WebScrapBook can also produce one HTML file, but it is designed for managing captures in several archive formats. Firefox’s built-in save options are useful fallbacks, though neither “Web page, complete” nor “HTML only” is the same as a self-contained single-file capture.
The key distinction is whether the page’s resources—such as images, styles, and fonts—are embedded in the HTML or saved separately. A file ending in .html is not necessarily a complete offline copy.
Which SingleFile alternative should you choose?
- Choose Save Page WE when you want a direct single-HTML alternative with individual, multi-page, URL-list, and command-line workflows. Its Firefox listing describes the extension as available for Firefox and Chrome with identical functions and interfaces.
- Choose WebScrapBook when you want to organize, retrieve, annotate, or edit captures, or need a choice of single HTML, folder, and ZIP-based archive formats.
- Use Firefox’s built-in save for a basic capture without installing an extension, if a separate assets folder is acceptable—or if you only need the original HTML structure.
- Keep using SingleFile if its features already meet your needs. Its listing describes options for selecting content and frames, annotations, batch processing, and cloud destinations; its project site also documents a command-line interface.
These are feature-based choices, not a ranking by capture fidelity, speed, or reliability. The cited listings describe product capabilities; they do not establish which tool produces the best result on every site.
Compare the output and workflows
| Tool | Output | Browser support stated in cited source | Batch or URL-list workflow | CLI or automation | Organization and editing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Save Page WE | One HTML file for a displayed page, according to its listing. | Firefox and Chrome; the listing says functions and interfaces are identical. | Save one page, selected pages, or a URL list. | Command-line saving is described in the listing. | Not stated in the cited listing as a central collection-management feature. |
| WebScrapBook | Single HTML, a folder, or ZIP-based HTZ or MAFF archive. | Not stated here; consult the project’s current extension listing for compatibility. | Customizable capture and bookmark-saving workflows are described; a URL-list workflow is not stated here. | Not stated here. | Designed to support retrieval, organization, annotation, and editing. |
| Firefox built-in save | “Web page, complete” saves an HTML file and a directory of resources; “HTML only” saves the original page structure in one file. | Firefox. | Not stated. | Not stated. | Not stated. |
| SingleFile | One HTML file with page resources, as described in its Chrome listing. | Chrome listing; check the project and relevant extension listing for current support on your browser. | Listing describes batch processing of tabs. | Project site documents a CLI for Windows, macOS, and Linux. | Listing describes selecting content or frames, annotations, autosave, and supported cloud destinations. |
“Not stated” means the cited source for this comparison does not establish that capability; it does not prove that a feature is unavailable. Browser-store listings and platform support can change, so check the current listing before installing or building an automated workflow.

Save a single HTML file with Save Page WE
Save Page WE is the most direct option when your requirement is a browser extension that saves the displayed page as one HTML file. Its Firefox Add-ons listing describes the output as a complete page “as currently displayed” that can be opened in any browser. That is the publisher’s description, not an independent fidelity test.
- Install Save Page WE from the official extension listing for your browser: Firefox Add-ons or Chrome Web Store.
- Open the page you want to keep and let the visible content finish loading. Because the capture is described as reflecting the page currently displayed, content that has not appeared yet may not be included as expected.
- Use the extension’s save command and choose where to store the resulting HTML file. Exact button names and options can change between extension versions.
- Open the saved file in a browser and check the specific text, images, or other content you need. A capture feature description cannot guarantee every site’s dynamic content will be preserved.
The listing also describes saving selected pages, a URL list, and command-line automation. Those features make Save Page WE a better fit than a one-page-only workflow when you need to capture multiple pages, but check the current listing for setup details before relying on automation.
When WebScrapBook is a better fit
WebScrapBook can save a single HTML file, but it is not limited to that format. Its project listing describes customizable capture and page selection, plus saving as a folder, a ZIP-based HTZ or MAFF archive, or a single HTML file. It also emphasizes retrieval, organization, annotation, and editing.

Pick the single-HTML format when portability as one file is the priority. Choose a folder or archive when you prefer an organized capture format or want to work with a collection. The project’s format options describe different ways to store captures; they do not establish that one format is more faithful for every site.

What Firefox’s built-in save options actually do
Firefox provides a no-extension fallback, but its two relevant options have different results, as Mozilla explains in its page-saving guide:
- Web page, complete saves the page plus a directory containing pictures and other files needed to display the page. It is a complete-page save, but not a single self-contained HTML file.
- HTML only saves the original page structure in one file. It does not mean the page’s resources have been embedded into a standalone offline archive.
Use “Web page, complete” when keeping a separate resource directory is acceptable. Use “HTML only” when you specifically need the original HTML file, not when you require all page resources in that one file.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

Check whether SingleFile already covers your workflow
Switching extensions may be unnecessary. The SingleFile Chrome listing describes saving a complete page with CSS, images, fonts, and frames into one HTML file. It also lists selected-content and frame capture, annotations, saving multiple tabs, autosave, and supported cloud destinations. SingleFile’s project site documents a CLI for Windows, macOS, and Linux, so command-line use alone is not a reason to assume you must switch. Check the current project page for platform and setup details.
If the gap is a particular capture option, check the current SingleFile listing and project documentation before migrating. If the real need is organizing a browsable archive, WebScrapBook’s collection-oriented features may be more relevant than replacing one single-file saver with another.
Choose based on what “one file” means
- One HTML file containing a capture of the displayed page: start with Save Page WE or SingleFile.
- One HTML file, plus collection management and alternate archive formats: consider WebScrapBook.
- A basic offline copy where a companion folder is fine: Firefox’s “Web page, complete” is a built-in option.
- Only the source page structure in one file: Firefox’s “HTML only” option may be sufficient, but it is not a self-contained capture.
- Need command-line capture: Save Page WE lists command-line workflows, and SingleFile’s project site documents a CLI. Verify current platform support and setup for the version you plan to use.
Or skip the browser setup
If your goal is a screenshot or PDF rather than an editable HTML archive, ScreenshotNeo offers a one-request website capture API. A screenshot is not a substitute for a saved HTML file: it preserves a visual result, not a page you can browse as HTML.

Does Firefox’s “HTML only” save create a self-contained offline file?
No. Mozilla describes it as preserving the original page structure in one file; “Web page, complete” instead stores needed resources in a separate directory.
Is a screenshot API an alternative to saving a webpage as HTML?
Only if a visual image or PDF meets your need. A screenshot preserves appearance, not an editable or navigable HTML archive.
