Then update and restart the browser, confirm the extension is enabled and allowed to access the page, and compare screenshot capture with an article capture. There is no single verified cause for every blank capture; the steps below help narrow down where the problem lies.
1. Find out whether the problem is page-specific
Open a simple, different webpage and try clipping it. If that works, the original page may be the factor. Complex layouts, interactive content, and multimedia can cause clipping to differ from what you see in the browser, according to Evernote’s troubleshooting guidance. These are possible explanations for a page clipping incorrectly, not confirmed diagnoses for a blank screenshot.
If multiple unrelated pages produce blank captures, focus next on the browser, extension, permissions, and local session rather than assuming every page is at fault.
2. Update the browser and check the extension
- Update your browser to its latest available version, then close and reopen it.
- Confirm that Web Clipper is installed and enabled in the browser’s extension settings.
- In Microsoft Edge, open Settings and more → Extensions and switch Evernote Web Clipper on, as Evernote’s troubleshooting page specifies.
- Return to the page and try the capture again.
Browser menus and labels can change. If you use a browser other than Edge, look for its extensions or add-ons page and verify that the clipper is enabled there.

3. Compare capture modes
Try an article-style capture and a screenshot capture. Article modes extract page text and images; screenshot mode captures the page visually, so testing both can show whether the problem affects one kind of capture or the extension more broadly.
Evernote Web Clipper
Evernote lists Article, Simplified Article, Full Page, Bookmark, and Screenshot among its clip actions. Its troubleshooting steps suggest trying Article, Simplified Article, or Full Page, manually selecting content, or using Screenshot. Availability and settings can vary slightly by browser. OneNote Web Clipper as a temporary alternative
If you need to preserve the page while diagnosing your usual extension, Microsoft documents OneNote Web Clipper’s Full Page and Region options as screenshot-image captures. Its Article mode captures editable text and images. This is a separate workflow, not a fix for the original extension. Microsoft’s instructions are at Use OneNote Web Clipper.
4. Check browser access and extension interference
Evernote recommends allowing third-party cookies, whitelisting Evernote in browser settings, and temporarily disabling ad-blocking extensions while troubleshooting. Change one setting at a time, then retry the capture so you can tell whether it made a difference.

- Review the browser’s cookie settings and allow third-party cookies if they are currently blocked.
- Check browser privacy or site-access settings for restrictions affecting Evernote or the page you are clipping.
- Temporarily disable ad-blocking extensions, then test again. Re-enable them afterward if they were not the cause.
Permission prompts and their wording depend on the browser. Microsoft’s OneNote setup instructions also advise acknowledging browser security messages and granting requested application permissions if prompted; do not assume every browser uses the same labels.
5. Refresh the local session
If the extension is enabled and the problem persists across pages and capture modes, clear the browser cache, then sign out of Evernote and sign back in. Evernote lists both as troubleshooting steps for clipping problems. Retry the same page and mode after signing in again.

6. If the screenshot is still blank
Collect enough detail to distinguish a page-specific issue from a browser or extension problem before seeking help. Note:
- Browser name and version, and your operating system.
- Whether one page or all pages fail.
- Whether Article or Simplified Article works while Screenshot fails.
- Whether the affected page is a PDF.
- Which steps you tried and whether any changed the result.
Evernote’s troubleshooting page recommends testing another page, but it does not provide a dedicated blank-screenshot diagnostic or escalation checklist. Its quick-start guide describes Screenshot mode as a way to capture and annotate a page; the guide is available at Get started with Evernote Web Clipper. Browser behavior and available clipping settings can differ, and Evernote says mobile clipping differs from desktop clipping.

Does a blank Web Clipper screenshot prove the website is blocking screenshots?
No. A blank result alone does not establish why capture failed. Test another page and another capture mode before drawing that conclusion.
Can I use OneNote Web Clipper while Evernote Web Clipper is failing?
Yes. Microsoft documents Full Page and Region screenshot-image captures in OneNote Web Clipper. It is a separate way to save a page, not a repair for Evernote Web Clipper.
