Both FireShot and Chrome DevTools can capture a full webpage, but the better fit depends on what you need to do with the image. DevTools is convenient for an occasional capture while you are already working in Chrome; FireShot adds visible-area and selection captures, editing, export options, and—on its Pro plan—batch and automated capture. The available documentation describes their features, not a head-to-head performance test, so it does not establish that one is universally faster or produces better images.

How do I take a full-page screenshot in Chrome DevTools?

Open DevTools, switch on Device Mode, and choose Capture a full size screenshot from Device Mode’s More options menu. Chrome documents this option as capturing the entire page, including content beyond the visible viewport. Chrome DevTools Device Mode documentation.

  1. Open the page you want to capture in Chrome.
  2. Open DevTools: right-click the page and choose Inspect, or use your operating system’s DevTools shortcut.
  3. Turn on Device Mode using the device-shaped toolbar button in DevTools.
  4. Open the Device Mode More options menu and select Capture a full size screenshot.
  5. Save the downloaded image from Chrome if prompted.

Device Mode also has a viewport screenshot option for capturing only the visible emulated screen. Chrome documents an option to include a device frame after enabling the frame. These are useful when the image needs to show a device presentation rather than the entire page.

Capture a selected area instead

For an area capture, open DevTools’ Command Menu with Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+P on Mac. Search for Capture area screenshot, select the command, and drag across the page to choose an area. Chrome notes that area capture does not work when DevTools is undocked. FireShot Pro pricing and capabilities

When checked on October 3, 2026, FireShot’s purchase page listed Pro at $39.95 per year or $99.95 for a lifetime option. The vendor describes the yearly plan as including advanced PDF export, unlimited screenshots, a Windows editor and annotations, capture history, offline operation, and batch/automated capture. Prices, plan names, and included features can change; consult the FireShot Pro purchase page for current terms.

FireShot vs. Chrome DevTools: which should you use?

Need Chrome DevTools FireShot
Capture a whole page Device Mode has Capture a full size screenshot. Full-page capture is a documented feature.
Capture just the visible area or a selection Device Mode captures the viewport; Command Menu supports area capture, but not when DevTools is undocked. Visible-part and selection capture are documented options.
Edit or annotate the result The cited Chrome documentation describes capture workflows, not an integrated screenshot editor. Vendor feature pages describe editing and annotation tools; availability can vary by plan and OS.
Export or share in different ways The cited documentation establishes screenshot capture but does not establish a comparable list of export formats. Vendor and store pages list PDF and image outputs and other delivery options.
Batch or automated capture Not established by the cited Chrome pages for this comparison. FireShot’s Pro page describes batch and automated captures.
Price These sources do not establish a separate DevTools price. Pro was listed at $39.95/year or $99.95 lifetime on October 3, 2026; check the vendor page for current terms.

Choose DevTools if you need an occasional full-page capture and want to stay in Chrome’s developer workflow. Consider FireShot if you regularly capture pages, need built-in editing or annotation, want its export options, or would use Pro’s batch and automated capture features. Whether Pro is worth its price depends on how much time those capabilities save in your workflow.

Privacy and what the available claims establish

The Chrome Web Store listing says FireShot’s developer declares that the extension does not collect or use data, and FireShot says captures are local. Those are statements from the extension publisher and vendor, not the results of an independent security audit. The cited Chrome documentation explains DevTools capture steps but does not provide a comparative privacy audit of the two approaches.
