Choose the right clip mode
| Mode | Use it when | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Full Page | You want a static copy that retains the page’s format and layout. | Includes the page’s design and navigation elements. |
| Article | You want the main section of a blog post, news story, or webpage. | Excludes surrounding page material. |
| Simplified Article | You want a cleaner reading copy. | Removes distracting layout elements. |
| Screenshot | You need a visual snapshot of what appears on the page, possibly with annotations. | Evernote’s screenshot tools support highlights, text, and shapes. |
| Bookmark | You only need to save the link for later. | Keeps the URL and a brief page preview rather than the full page content. |
These modes serve different purposes; Full Page is the choice when preserving layout matters, while Article and Simplified Article favor readable content. Available labels and settings can vary by browser. Evernote’s settings documentation lists these five modes and allows users to set a default action and notebook destination. See Evernote’s settings documentation.
If the clip is incomplete or looks wrong
- The note has too much page clutter: Try Article or Simplified Article instead of Full Page.
- Important content is missing: Switch among Full Page, Article, and Simplified Article; extraction can vary by page.
- You need to preserve exactly what is visible: Try Screenshot. It is a visual capture mode, not a promise of editable text.
- The extension is hard to find: Open the browser’s extensions menu and pin the Web Clipper icon if that option is available.
- You are using a different browser: Browser support and settings vary, so check that browser’s current extension listing.
Evernote’s troubleshooting guidance recommends trying different clip types and using Screenshot where appropriate. No clip mode guarantees a perfect result on every site. Evernote Web Clipper troubleshooting.
