Screenshot Machine’s documented command-line method is a Bash script that sends an HTTP request with curl; the documentation reviewed does not describe a separately installed ScreenshotMachine CLI program. To give JavaScript-rendered content more time to appear, set the API’s delay parameter to a longer supported value, save the image, and inspect it. That parameter is a fixed wait—not a signal that JavaScript or network activity has finished.
Use Bash and curl with a longer capture delay
Get a Screenshot Machine customer key, set the page URL, and send the documented GET request. This redacted version follows the vendor’s Bash example. It uses a 2,000-millisecond delay and saves the response as output.png.

The sample requests a fresh result with cacheLimit=0. If your account has a secret phrase enabled, configure it securely: the vendor’s example hashes the URL value concatenated with the phrase using MD5, and requests with a missing or incorrect hash are ignored. Do not commit either credential to a public repository.
The vendor’s API documentation says delay controls how long the capture engine waits before creating the screenshot. Its documented default is 200 ms; the accepted choices are 0, 200, 400, 600, 800, 1,000, then 2,000 through 10,000 ms in 1,000 ms increments. The sample’s 2,000 ms is a reasonable starting point, not a guarantee that the page is ready.

How do I wait for JavaScript to load before taking a screenshot?
Use delay to allow client-rendered content, animations, or late-arriving images additional time. Try a few accepted values on the same page, then compare the saved images for the content you need. More waiting can improve the chance that late content appears, but it also adds time to each capture and cannot confirm that asynchronous work has completed.
The reviewed API documentation describes a fixed elapsed-time delay, not a JavaScript-ready event, DOM-ready condition, selector wait, or network-idle wait. If the content still does not appear at the longest useful delay, check whether the page needs authentication, cookies, or a click before capture, and whether it is accessible to the service.

How can I take a full-page screenshot after the page finishes loading?
Set the API’s dimension height to full for a full-page capture. Dimensions otherwise use width-by-height values: the documented width range is 100–1,920 pixels and height range is 100–9,999 pixels. Full-page captures can include more late-loading images or animation, so allow additional time and inspect the result rather than assuming the delay guarantees completeness.
Choose the viewport and device mode for the rendering you want. The API supports desktop, phone, and tablet; documented example dimensions are desktop 1024×768, phone 480×800, and tablet 800×1280. The Bash sample uses 1366×768 in desktop mode. A different viewport or device mode can change responsive layout and therefore what appears in the image.

Use --data-urlencode for each parameter, as in the script. This is particularly important for reserved characters in URLs and CSS selectors, including #. The API documentation’s official shell pattern uses this encoding approach.
Troubleshoot errors and incomplete screenshots
- The result is an error image: Screenshot Machine documents an
X-Screenshotmachine-Responseheader with an error code for invalid or incomplete calls. Check that header, then verify the key and target URL. Listed errors includeinvalid_key,missing_key,invalid_url,missing_url, andno_credits. - A secret phrase is enabled: Confirm the hash is derived from the exact URL parameter value concatenated with the secret phrase. A missing or incorrect hash causes the request to be ignored; keep the phrase private.
- The screenshot misses the JavaScript content: Increase
delayusing a documented value and inspect the output again. If it remains incomplete, determine whether the page requires cookies or a click, or whether the content is inaccessible to the capture service. A longer delay is not a readiness guarantee. - A selector or crop request fails: Check the selector or crop values and URL-encode reserved characters. The documented error list includes
invalid_selectorandinvalid_crop. - The capture is stale: Set
cacheLimitto0to request a fresh screenshot instead of accepting a cached result.
