Use a scheduler to start a browser-automation script, configure the browser to use your rotating proxy, and have the script capture and save the page. The scheduler controls when a screenshot runs; the proxy controls how the browser connects. For authorized monitoring, Playwright can use HTTP or SOCKS proxies and capture a viewport, full page, or selected element. Playwright’s proxy configuration and screenshot API document these capabilities.
How the scheduled capture works
A rotating proxy does not schedule a screenshot or create the image. It routes browser traffic through a proxy provider, which may change the apparent session or IP according to that provider’s controls. A cron job, CI schedule, or other timer starts your script; the script launches Playwright, visits the page through the proxy, waits for a suitable page state, and writes an image.
Keep the workflow authorized and within the target website’s terms and the proxy provider’s documented limits. Record challenge pages, rate limits, and access failures as outcomes; do not increase request frequency or rotate identities to bypass access controls.
Plan the capture before scheduling it
- Target and scope: specify the URL and whether you need the visible viewport, the full page, or a particular element.
- Cadence and timezone: decide how often the image is actually needed, and which timezone governs the schedule. Keep the cadence no more frequent than necessary.
- Rendering settings: choose viewport dimensions and image format. For useful visual comparisons, keep the browser, operating system, fonts, viewport, and rendering settings consistent.
- Session behavior: check the proxy provider’s rotation and session controls. If a page load needs multiple requests to appear as one session, see whether the provider supports pinning a session.
- Storage and retention: choose durable storage and a predictable filename or object key that includes the target identifier and UTC capture time.
- Privacy: screenshots and logs may expose account or customer information. Limit access and retention accordingly.
Playwright notes that operating system, browser version, settings, hardware, power state, and headless mode can affect rendering. A pixel difference can therefore reflect a changed environment rather than a changed website. See Playwright’s visual comparison guidance.

Configure Playwright to use a rotating proxy
Install Playwright and its browser in the environment that will run the job. The example below uses Python and Chromium. Set the proxy endpoint and credentials using your provider’s documented values; do not commit secrets to source control. Playwright accepts HTTP and SOCKS proxy servers and optional username/password authentication.

browser.close()For this example, install the Python package and Chromium using Playwright’s documented setup for your environment. Provide PROXY_SERVER in the format expected by the proxy service, such as an HTTP or SOCKS endpoint. Some providers encode rotation or session pinning in the username, endpoint, or session controls; use their own instructions rather than assuming a universal syntax.
domcontentloaded waits for the document to be parsed, not for every image, font, or asynchronous component to finish. If the page has a meaningful readiness condition, replace or supplement the body visibility check with a locator for that element. Avoid relying on a very short fixed delay when a page condition can be awaited.

Choose the right screenshot scope
- Viewport: omit
full_page=Trueto capture only the current viewport. - Full page: use
full_page=Truewhen content below the fold matters. Lazy-loaded content may require scrolling or another explicit loading strategy before capture. - One element: locate the component and call
locator.screenshot(path="component.png")instead of capturing the page. - Format: Playwright screenshot options support PNG, JPEG, and quality settings where applicable. Choose based on fidelity and storage requirements.

Schedule the script and retain useful run records
The scheduler depends on where the script runs. Configure your chosen system cron, CI scheduler, or other timer to invoke the script at the intended cadence; the exact syntax and timezone behavior are specific to that runner. Keep scheduling separate from capture logic so you can run the same script manually to diagnose a failed job.
For each run, record the scheduled time, actual capture time, target, final URL, browser version, outcome, and error details. Log a proxy or session identifier only if doing so is safe and does not expose credentials. Store screenshots in durable storage with predictable, timestamped names, and define a retention policy.

Handle proxy sessions, reliability, and cost
Rotation and session continuity
Rotation can occur between requests, which may matter when the browser loads a page through several assets or when the site expects a consistent session. Check whether your proxy provider offers a pinned session and how long it lasts. BotProxy’s documentation describes automatic rotation and session pinning and cautions against high request rates to one website; its controls are provider-specific, not a general proxy standard. Consistency and repeatability
Use the same browser build, operating system, viewport, and capture settings for recurring comparisons. Changes in machine conditions and headless rendering can alter pixels even when the site itself has not changed. Log enough environment information to distinguish rendering changes from page changes.
Failures and operating cost
Proxy services and hosted browser platforms have their own quotas, limits, and pricing. Estimate the number of scheduled captures, account for retries and any page resources loaded through the proxy, and confirm the selected plan’s current terms before relying on it. Verify those details for the plan and workflow you intend to use.

Self-hosted browser or hosted capture service?
A self-hosted Playwright job gives you control over proxy configuration, wait conditions, screenshot scope, filenames, and storage, but you must deploy and maintain the browser and scheduler. Hosted browser products can reduce infrastructure work, but their scheduling, proxy controls, limits, pricing, and data handling differ. Troubleshooting scheduled captures
- Proxy connection or authentication fails: verify the endpoint scheme and port against the provider’s instructions, confirm credentials are present in the scheduler’s secret store, and test the same configuration in a manual run.
- Navigation times out: check proxy health and target availability, then use a suitable wait condition instead of waiting for every network request to finish. Record timeouts as failures rather than saving them as valid captures.
- The screenshot is blank or incomplete: wait for a page-specific element, check the final URL and response status, and ensure the chosen viewport or element is visible. A document-parsed event alone does not guarantee that asynchronous content has rendered.
- Full-page images miss lazy content: trigger the site’s normal lazy-loading behavior before capture, for example by scrolling through the page and waiting for the relevant elements. Keep this behavior consistent between runs.
- Recurring screenshots differ unexpectedly: compare browser and operating-system versions, viewport, fonts, headless mode, and machine conditions before concluding that the page changed.
- The target shows a challenge or rate limit: treat it as an access outcome, reduce unnecessary request volume, and confirm permission and the site’s rules. Do not use rotation to evade the restriction.
- The scheduled job cannot find files or secrets: schedulers may run with a different working directory and environment from an interactive shell. Use explicit output paths and configure secrets in the runner’s supported secret mechanism.
