Schedule the browser job to run when you need a capture, then make the browser wait for the page’s meaningful ready state and any finite animations before taking the screenshot. The scheduler controls when the job runs; browser-side synchronization controls when the image is captured.
Choose what “finished” should mean
Animation completion is not the same as page readiness. A page can finish its current animations while data is still loading, and an animation can start after you check. If the application exposes a reliable ready marker, event, or target element, wait for that as well. Then choose how to handle animations:
- Capture the natural end frame: wait for relevant finite animations to finish.
- Capture a repeatable visual-regression image: disable animations for the capture or use Playwright Test’s screenshot assertion, which waits for visual stability.
- Capture an endlessly animated element: do not await natural completion; it may never finish. Disable the animation or define an application-specific point at which to capture.
Wait for natural animation completion
The browser’s Web Animations API provides document.getAnimations() to collect animations currently in effect across the document. The finished promise for each animation resolves when that animation finishes. This illustrative Playwright pattern waits for the animations returned at collection time, then captures:
await page.evaluate(async () => {
const animations = document.getAnimations();
await Promise.all(animations.map(animation => animation.finished));
});
await page.screenshot({ path: 'capture.png' });
For a known region, collect animations from the element and its descendants instead of the whole document. Subtree mode includes animations targeting descendants and pseudo-elements:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
await page.evaluate(async (selector) => {
const element = document.querySelector(selector);
if (!element) throw new Error(`Element not found: ${selector}`);
const animations = element.getAnimations({ subtree: true });
await Promise.all(animations.map(animation => animation.finished));
}, '#report');
await page.screenshot({ path: 'capture.png' });
These snippets are patterns, not a complete readiness detector. They wait only for the animations found when the list is collected; later-starting, restarted, canceled, or infinite animations need application-specific handling. Combine the wait with a known content-ready condition where the site provides one. Avoid replacing a readiness signal with an arbitrary sleep.
Disable animations for a stable screenshot
Playwright’s screenshot API accepts an animations option. With animations: 'disabled', finite animations are fast-forwarded to completion, while infinite animations are canceled for the capture and resumed afterward. This is useful for stable snapshots, but it deliberately changes the rendered state compared with capturing the page at a naturally occurring moment.

await page.screenshot({
path: 'capture.png',
animations: 'disabled'
});
Use this when the goal is a deterministic image rather than observing the animation itself. See the Playwright Page API.
Use Playwright Test when checking visual regressions
Playwright Test’s toHaveScreenshot() assertion waits until two consecutive page screenshots produce the same result, then compares the last screenshot with the expectation. It is a visual-regression assertion, not a general guarantee that all application activity or network work has stopped.

await expect(page).toHaveScreenshot();
See Playwright’s screenshot assertion documentation. If you only need to save an image on a schedule, use a browser screenshot call rather than treating a test assertion as a scheduler.
Use Puppeteer with an explicit browser-side wait
Puppeteer documents Page.screenshot() as its capture API. Its cited screenshot API documentation does not establish an equivalent built-in animation-finished wait, so pair the screenshot call with the Web Animations API wait when natural completion matters:

- Set the recurring trigger in your scheduler and make it invoke the browser job.
- Launch Playwright or Puppeteer and navigate to the target URL.
- Wait for the application’s relevant content or readiness signal.
- Wait for finite animations if you need their natural end frame, or disable them for a stable snapshot.
- Capture the screenshot, save or upload it, and have the surrounding job report timeouts and capture errors.
Authentication, storage, retries, alerts, and scheduler syntax depend on your runtime and target site; add those around the browser job rather than assuming animation waits handle them.
Troubleshoot animation-timed captures
- The job never reaches the screenshot call: the page may have an infinite animation, or an awaited animation may not finish. Exclude that animation, use an application-specific completion condition, or disable animations for a stable capture.
- The screenshot is taken before content appears: animation completion does not prove data or page content has loaded. Wait for the relevant element, ready marker, or application event before the animation wait.
- An animation starts after the wait begins: the initial collection only includes animations returned at collection time. Wait for a page-specific signal that starts or completes the relevant effect, then collect and await animations.
- A transition is canceled or restarted: the set of animations can change while the page runs. Use a condition tied to the application’s actual state instead of assuming one collected set covers every transition.
- Visual-regression captures still differ: use Playwright Test’s screenshot assertion for its consecutive-image stability check, or disable animations when taking a page screenshot. Neither substitutes for waiting for the correct content.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. It accepts one GET request for a URL and returns an image or PDF. Cookie banners are accepted and removed, and known newsletter popups and chat widgets are removed before capture; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. An MCP server lets AI agents use take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf.
For a single capture, the cURL request is:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options. The service offers 1,000 screenshots per month free with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for free.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does waiting for animations also wait for images and network requests?
No. Animation promises cover the animations collected in the page; wait separately for the content or readiness condition your capture needs.

Does Playwright’s screenshot stability check schedule recurring captures?
No. Playwright Test’s screenshot assertion is for visual-regression comparison; an external scheduler must launch recurring jobs.
