A Symfony or Flask application can request a website screenshot from a hosted API: your server sends the capture request, receives image or PDF data, and returns it to an authorized caller. Keep the provider key on the server, validate the requested URL and capture options, and follow the selected provider’s own endpoint, authentication, and response contract.
How a website screenshot API fits into Symfony or Flask
The hosted service does the browser rendering. Your application provides a controlled server-side boundary between the person or system requesting the screenshot and the provider:
- Authenticate and authorize the caller.
- Validate the destination URL and permitted capture settings.
- Call the provider from the application server using server-side credentials.
- Handle the provider’s response, errors, and timeout.
- Return the result as bytes with the correct media type, or provide a controlled URL if the provider stores the result.
Provider contracts are not interchangeable. Use the selected service’s documentation for its endpoint, authentication method, field names, formats, response body, quotas, and retry rules. ScreenshotAPI’s official PHP SDK documentation includes a Symfony controller example; its API reference describes its endpoint and capture options. Verify current package names and method signatures against those pages before deploying.
How do I return a screenshot from a Symfony controller?
ScreenshotAPI’s PHP SDK documentation shows a Symfony controller pattern that reads an API key from environment configuration, creates the SDK client, requests a screenshot, and returns image data with a content type. The exact SDK classes, constructor arguments, methods, PHP compatibility, and option names are version-sensitive, so use the current SDK documentation rather than treating an unverified snippet as a drop-in implementation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
At the application boundary, the controller should validate input before calling the SDK and should translate provider failures into safe application responses. Return the media type reported by a trusted provider response, or derive it from an output format that your application has explicitly allowed. Do not hard-code image/png if callers can select JPEG, WebP, or PDF.
ScreenshotAPI documents multiple output types and full-page capture. Its PHP SDK reference also lists viewport dimensions, output type, quality, and color scheme; use the provider’s current reference for exact option names and constraints.

How do I take a website screenshot from Flask?
Flask can make a server-side HTTP request to a screenshot provider and return the resulting bytes. The request structure below is deliberately provider-neutral: fill in the URL, authentication, payload fields, and response handling from the chosen service’s current documentation. A Python example available for another provider is not proof of ScreenshotAPI-specific behavior or a Flask SDK.
import os
import requests
from flask import Flask, Response, abort, request
app = Flask(__name__)
@app.post("/screenshot")
def screenshot():
# Require and validate input in production; this minimal check is not
# sufficient protection against SSRF or abuse.
target_url = request.json.get("url") if request.is_json else None
if not target_url or not target_url.startswith(("https://", "http://")):
abort(400, "A valid target URL is required")
api_key = os.environ.get("SCREENSHOT_API_KEY")
if not api_key:
app.logger.error("Screenshot API key is not configured")
abort(503, "Screenshot service is not configured")
# Replace these provider-specific values with the selected vendor's
# documented endpoint, authentication, request fields, and format.
endpoint = os.environ["SCREENSHOT_API_ENDPOINT"]
payload = {"url": target_url}
headers = {"Authorization": f"Bearer {api_key}"}
try:
upstream = requests.post(
endpoint,
json=payload,
headers=headers,
timeout=(5, 60),
)
except requests.Timeout:
abort(504, "Screenshot provider timed out")
except requests.RequestException:
app.logger.exception("Screenshot provider request failed")
abort(502, "Screenshot provider request failed")
if upstream.status_code == 429:
abort(503, "Screenshot provider rate limit reached")
if not upstream.ok:
app.logger.warning("Screenshot provider returned HTTP %s", upstream.status_code)
abort(502, "Screenshot provider could not complete the capture")
# Validate this against the formats your route allows and the provider's
# documented response contract before returning upstream content.
content_type = upstream.headers.get("Content-Type", "application/octet-stream")
if content_type not in {"image/png", "image/jpeg", "image/webp", "application/pdf"}:
abort(502, "Screenshot provider returned an unsupported content type")
return Response(upstream.content, content_type=content_type)
This is an integration skeleton, not a ScreenshotAPI contract: the bearer header and generic JSON payload are illustrative placeholders. Configure the endpoint and request exactly as your provider documents. If the service returns a JSON object or a hosted-result URL rather than raw bytes, parse that documented response and return a controlled application URL instead of passing the JSON body off as an image.

Keep the API key out of frontend code
Store credentials in server-side environment configuration or your deployment platform’s secret store. Do not put them in browser JavaScript, public HTML, source control, or application logs. ScreenshotEngine’s credential guidance recommends this general practice; it is cross-provider security guidance, not a statement about ScreenshotAPI’s implementation: credential handling guidance.
Let the browser call your Symfony or Flask route under your own authentication and authorization rules. The server route should not become an unrestricted relay that lets anonymous callers spend your quota or reach arbitrary destinations.

Protect the route from unsafe or excessive capture requests
- Allow only the URL schemes your application needs, commonly HTTP and HTTPS, and consider an allowlist of permitted hostnames.
- Block internal network ranges and cloud metadata endpoints where appropriate. This helps reduce server-side request forgery (SSRF) risk; the reviewed provider documentation is not a complete SSRF policy.
- Remember that the remote renderer may have its own network access rules. Check the provider’s current policy rather than assuming it can reach every public or private destination.
- Limit capture options, output size, request frequency, and concurrent work. Apply authentication, authorization, and rate limits to your own route.
- Set bounded connection and read timeouts. Choose limits that fit your application’s response budget, and check whether the provider supports asynchronous jobs for longer captures.
- Do not log API keys or sensitive target URLs. Avoid returning provider stack traces or raw error bodies to callers.
Choose how the application returns the result
There are three common designs; the right one depends on the provider’s response contract and the privacy and freshness needs of your application.
| Return strategy | Useful when | Implementation detail |
|---|---|---|
| Raw image or PDF bytes | The caller needs the capture immediately. | Set the response media type correctly and enforce a maximum response size. |
| Provider-hosted result URL | The provider returns a stored result and the caller can safely access it. | Check URL access, expiration, and sharing behavior in the provider’s documentation. |
| Application-stored file | You need application-controlled access, retention, or delivery. | Store the result under your own access controls and return an application URL. |
Set cache headers only when reuse is safe for the target page and the capture’s freshness requirements. A screenshot of authenticated or otherwise sensitive content should not be made publicly cacheable by default.

Handle failures without leaking provider details
Map failures deliberately rather than treating every unsuccessful capture as the same error. Provider-specific status codes and retry rules must come from the service’s reference.
- Invalid request: Reject malformed URLs or unsupported capture settings before calling the provider.
- Authentication failure: Check server-side secret configuration and the provider’s required authentication format; do not send the key to the browser.
- Rate limit or quota exhaustion: Return a controlled error, monitor usage, and retry only according to documented provider guidance.
- Timeout: Use bounded timeouts and consider an asynchronous workflow if captures exceed the route’s response budget.
- Render or load failure: Report that the capture could not be completed without exposing raw upstream diagnostics.
- Unexpected response: Validate status, content type, and response size before forwarding data to the caller.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server; your application can request a screenshot with one GET request rather than managing browser automation. For example, from a server-side shell:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request details. Cookie banners are accepted and removed before capture, along with known newsletter popups and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server exposes screenshot tools for AI agents, and 1,000 screenshots per month are free with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Create a free account to get 1,000 screenshots a month with no card.
Frequently asked questions
Does ScreenshotAPI provide a verified Flask SDK in these references?
No Flask-specific SDK or ScreenshotAPI Flask example is established by the cited material. Use Flask’s ordinary server-side HTTP tooling only after confirming the provider’s current request and response contract.
Can a screenshot route accept any URL?
It should not accept arbitrary destinations without safeguards. Validate and constrain URLs, restrict access to internal destinations, authenticate callers, and limit request volume and capture options.
