Process priority can affect CPU scheduling, but it does not keep a stream online or guarantee uninterrupted playback.
What OBS process priority changes
Process priority tells Windows how to schedule OBS relative to other processes when they contend for CPU time. It does not give OBS more processing capacity, fix an overloaded encoder, improve a weak internet connection, or make YouTube reconnect automatically.
The current English OBS interface lists five choices: High, Above Normal, Normal, Below Normal, and Idle. OBS’s current English interface labels
Which priority should you use?
Normal: the sensible baseline
Use Normal first. If your PC is stable and OBS is not missing frames, there is no reason to raise its priority simply because the stream is intended to run nonstop.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Above Normal: a controlled test for CPU contention
OBS’s legacy advanced-settings help says that, because encoding can consume substantial CPU, Above Normal can sometimes help CPU-intensive capture and encoding. That is legacy guidance, not a current recommendation specifically for nonstop prerecorded YouTube streams. Treat it as an option to test when other active applications are competing for CPU time, rather than as a universal best setting. Legacy OBS advanced-settings help
High, Below Normal, and Idle
The current interface offers these choices, but the reviewed official material does not establish High as the right setting for this use case. Below Normal and Idle would give other processes greater scheduling preference, so they are poor starting choices if OBS needs to encode or maintain playback reliably. Avoid choosing High as an assumed uptime fix.

How to change and test the setting
- In OBS Studio on Windows, open Settings > Advanced > General.
- Under Process Priority, select Normal as the baseline. If you suspect CPU scheduling contention, select Above Normal for a controlled comparison.
- Click Apply, then OK to save the setting.
- Run the same stream workload and watch OBS’s statistics for missed frames, rendering or encoding lag, and dropped frames. Compare results under similar conditions; a change in priority is useful only if it improves the problem you are observing.
- If Above Normal does not help or causes undesirable behavior, return to Normal. Investigate the specific bottleneck rather than escalating priority.
What priority cannot solve in a nonstop stream
Process priority is one Windows scheduling preference, not an uptime control. A nonstop prerecorded stream can still stop if the computer sleeps, OBS closes or crashes, the network connection fails, encoding cannot keep up, or the YouTube stream disconnects. The reviewed OBS guidance does not establish that any priority setting prevents these failures or automatically recovers a dropped YouTube stream.
