A 403 means a request was refused somewhere in the capture path—but it does not, by itself, tell you whether Make, the screenshot integration, or the target website refused it. First identify the failing Make module and inspect its response. Then check that module’s credentials and request settings, and confirm that the site permits the requested access.

Find which step returned the 403

Open the failed scenario run and inspect the module marked as the error. Determine whether the status came from Make’s HTTP module, the GetScreenshot integration, or another connected app. The module’s error details and response are more useful than the scenario’s overall failure message.

Make’s general error guidance discusses HTTP 401 and 403 in connection with AccountValidationError, but that does not establish that every screenshot-related 403 originates in Make or results from expired credentials. See Make’s error and warning guidance.

Check the request and credentials

If the failing module is Make HTTP

Review the configuration of the specific HTTP request that feeds the screenshot workflow. Make’s HTTP documentation covers authentication, headers, cookies, redirects, and the option labeled “Return error if HTTP request fails.” That option affects whether a 4xx or 5xx response stops the scenario; changing it does not grant access to a page that is refusing the request.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • Confirm that the selected authentication type and credentials are correct for the endpoint being called.
  • Check that required headers or cookies are present and that their values are current.
  • Review redirect handling: a redirect can lead to a different endpoint with different access requirements.
  • Use the response details to distinguish a request rejected by the endpoint from a scenario setting that merely controls how Make handles the returned status.

If the failing module is GetScreenshot

Make’s GetScreenshot app documentation says an active GetScreenshot account and API key are required. Check that the Make connection uses the provider’s currently valid credentials. A valid key may resolve an authentication or account problem, but it cannot establish that the destination website allows the capture.

Check whether the website permits the capture

The target site may refuse a request under its own access rules. The status alone does not identify the site’s reason, and the available Make documentation does not establish that a particular setting change will make a restricted page available. Use an authorized access path and follow the site’s requirements; do not treat a browser-based capture or a different API as a way around a refusal.

Choose an appropriate capture workflow

Make documents two relevant integrations: GetScreenshot provides webpage and element capture actions, while Anchor Browser Agent offers a browser-driven webpage screenshot action using Chromium. Those are different capture modes, not guarantees of success on a restricted target.

Option Documented capture mode Credential requirement What it does not establish
GetScreenshot API-based webpage and element capture Active GetScreenshot account and API key That a target site authorizes the request
Anchor Browser Agent Browser-driven webpage screenshot using Chromium Follow the integration’s connection requirements That browser capture will work for a page whose access is restricted

Make’s integration details are available for GetScreenshot and Anchor Browser Agent. Available documentation does not provide a verified comparison of reliability, price, or success rate, so choose based on your workflow and the site’s authorization requirements.

If the site authorizes the request, ScreenshotNeo offers a screenshot API and MCP server for developers. A single GET request can return an image or PDF. For example, this cURL request captures a webpage as WebP:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. These features do not override a target site’s access rules.

Troubleshoot common 403 cases

What you see What to check next
The HTTP module shows the 403 Inspect its authentication, headers, cookies, redirect behavior, and response. Confirm whether the refusing endpoint is the intended one.
The GetScreenshot module shows the 403 Verify the Make connection uses a valid API key for an active GetScreenshot account, then inspect the provider’s response details.
A different app or module shows the 403 Use that module’s response and connection settings to identify which component refused the request; do not assume Make itself generated the status.
The request and credentials appear correct Check the target site’s access requirements and use an authorized path. The available documentation does not identify the cause for an unspecified website.
The scenario stops on a 4xx response Review “Return error if HTTP request fails” in the Make HTTP module. This controls scenario behavior, not whether the endpoint grants access.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a 403 mean my Make API key is expired?

Not necessarily. The module and its response must be checked first; the refusal may come from another connected service or the target website.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Will switching to a browser-based screenshot integration fix every 403?

No. Make documents browser-based screenshot capability through Anchor Browser Agent, but does not guarantee access to restricted pages.
