Use Puppeteer’s Page.screenshot() method after navigating to a page. This TypeScript example saves a viewport screenshot as a PNG and closes the browser even if capture fails:
Capture a page screenshot with TypeScript

}This uses top-level await, supported in TypeScript files configured for an ESM environment. If your project uses CommonJS, put the code inside an async function and call it. The sequence is launch a browser, create a page, navigate, capture, and close the browser. Puppeteer’s Page API documents this lifecycle and the screenshot method.
Page.screenshot() is asynchronous, so await it before using the saved file or returned image data. By default, the method returns image bytes as a Uint8Array; with encoding: 'base64', its documented overload returns a string. See the Page.screenshot() API.
Choose viewport, full-page, element, or region capture
The default capture is the visible viewport. Set screenshot options to change the capture area:

Capture the entire page

Capture a clipped region

});The clip option selects a region of the page or element. Its coordinates and dimensions must describe a usable capture area; check that the region fits the intended content.
Wait for the page content you need
Navigation completion does not necessarily mean an application has finished rendering data, loading lazy images, or completing animations. Puppeteer’s guide demonstrates using a navigation wait such as networkidle2:

Set image format and screenshot output
The documented screenshot options include path, fullPage, clip, type, quality, omitBackground, and encoding. PNG is the documented default image type. When a path is supplied, its extension is used to infer the image type. The quality option ranges from 0 to 100 and does not apply to PNG. Consult the ScreenshotOptions reference for option details.

Troubleshoot common screenshot problems
- The output file is missing or not ready: Await
page.screenshot()before checking or using the file, and ensure the browser is closed after the capture completes. - The screenshot misses content lower on the page: The default is a viewport capture. Set
fullPage: truefor a full-page screenshot. - The element is not in the image: Confirm the selector matches an element. Puppeteer attempts to scroll a hidden element into view when using
ElementHandle.screenshot(); for content that appears only after application rendering, wait for the relevant site-specific condition first. - The page looks incomplete: Revisit the navigation wait and add a readiness check suitable for the site. Network-idle navigation is not a universal guarantee that dynamic content or animations are finished.
- The image format or quality is unexpected: Check the screenshot path extension and the
typeoption. The documented quality range applies to supported non-PNG output, not PNG. - The process leaves a browser running after an error: Put capture work in a
tryblock and close the browser infinally, as in the example.
