Short answer: CloudConvert is a natural fit if you want website captures handled as jobs alongside file conversion, storage, or workflow automation. Browserless is a better fit if you want a dedicated screenshot endpoint or need broader managed Puppeteer/Playwright browser access. Neither vendor’s cited documentation establishes a complete recurring schedule inside its screenshot API, so plan to trigger captures and manage retries, alerts, and retention in an external scheduler or workflow.
How the two screenshot services differ
Both services can render a website into an image through an API, but their capture models and surrounding tools differ.
| Decision point | CloudConvert | Browserless |
|---|---|---|
| Capture model | A named capture-website operation within a job/task workflow. CloudConvert’s operation reference specifies URL and output format as required inputs. |
A dedicated POST request to /screenshot, alongside REST endpoints for other browser tasks. Browserless’s Screenshot API accepts a URL or raw HTML. |
| Capture controls and formats | Documents full-page capture, waiting for CSS selectors, viewport, zoom and resizing options. Its marketing page describes PNG/JPG output and custom authorization headers. CloudConvert Website Screenshot API | Documents PNG, JPEG and WebP, plus full-page capture, selector capture, wait controls, navigation configuration, resource rejection and Puppeteer-style screenshot options. Screenshot API documentation |
| Scheduling and workflow | Jobs can run synchronously or asynchronously; webhooks can report asynchronous completion. CloudConvert also documents integrations with Zapier, Power Automate, Make and n8n. These are workflow routes, not a promise that every integration provides the same recurrence, retry or alert behavior. Jobs documentation · API Getting Started | The documented route is to call the REST API from an external scheduler. Browserless also offers managed Puppeteer/Playwright browser connections and self-hosting, but its cited docs do not establish a native recurring scheduler. REST APIs · Browserless Overview |
| Completion and storage | Asynchronous jobs, webhooks and storage integrations including S3, Azure and Google Cloud are documented. Website Screenshot API | The caller should design where returned images are saved and how completion, failures and monitoring are handled. |
| Cost model | The screenshot page advertises a starting price of $0.008 per file; it is not a quote for a particular recurring workload. Actual cost depends on options and volume. Website Screenshot API | Cloud plans use units and plan-dependent allowances, concurrency, session limits and overages. Browser time is billed in 30-second increments, with partial increments rounded up; confirm current terms for the relevant plan and billing cycle. Unit Consumption · Browserless Pricing |
| Wider browser needs | Focused job and conversion pipeline. | Screenshot REST API, managed browser connections, and self-hosting options. Browserless Overview |
Which one should you choose?
Choose CloudConvert for a job-and-file workflow
CloudConvert is worth evaluating when screenshots are one step in a pipeline that already relies on jobs, webhooks, or external storage. Its API also documents custom authorization headers for protected resources and selector waits for pages whose useful content appears after initial navigation. Check the exact capture parameters and task behavior against your page before settling on a schedule.
Choose Browserless for an HTTP capture endpoint or broader browser access
Browserless is worth evaluating when a simple screenshot REST request suits your integration, or when the project may need managed Puppeteer/Playwright access or self-hosted browser infrastructure beyond screenshots. Its documentation warns that bot defenses can result in blank, CAPTCHA, or access-denied captures; an endpoint does not guarantee access to protected sites. Use only authorized access and validate the target site’s terms and behavior.

Try ScreenshotNeo first as a screenshot-focused alternative
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server with clean captures, billing only for clean shots, and a paid plan starting at $5 for 3,000 shots. Its listed features include asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture, caching, and options for capture readiness and output control.
How to schedule captures reliably
For either CloudConvert or Browserless, treat the screenshot call as one step in an operational workflow rather than the whole scheduler. The cited product documentation does not establish a complete recurring trigger, retry policy, alerting, and retention system within either screenshot API.

- Define the capture workload. Record target URLs, captures per month, output formats, viewport or full-page needs, readiness delay, authentication, concurrency, storage destination, and retention period.
- Choose an external trigger. Use your existing scheduler or workflow platform to invoke the API on the required cadence. CloudConvert documents integrations with Zapier, Power Automate, Make and n8n; verify the recurrence and failure-handling behavior of the specific integration you plan to use. For Browserless, call its API from your scheduler or application.
- Wait for the right page state. Configure a selector wait or other documented readiness control where available. A page that technically loads may still have missing images or unfinished JavaScript content; validate the resulting image, not only the request status.
- Persist the output and record the outcome. Save the image with a timestamp and target identifier. For CloudConvert, consider its documented storage integrations and asynchronous job/webhook flow. With Browserless, implement the persistence and monitoring path in the caller’s workflow.
- Set bounded retries and alerts. Decide which failures should be retried, how many attempts are allowed, and when to alert an operator. Avoid uncontrolled retries that multiply workload or cost.
- Test representative pages before enabling recurrence. Evaluate one ordinary page and one JavaScript-heavy page, then inspect output, timing, authentication, and failure handling. This is a suggested pilot, not a reported comparative test.
Compare cost using your actual schedule
The billing units are different, so a headline price alone cannot establish which service is cheaper. CloudConvert advertises a starting rate per file, while Browserless Cloud usage depends on units and plan terms, including browser-time increments. Both vendors’ pricing and plan details can change; verify the live pages before committing.

For Browserless, include the 30-second billing increments and plan-specific allowances and overages in the estimate. For CloudConvert, the $0.008-per-file figure is the page’s advertised starting rate, not a workload quote. Compare final projected costs only after checking the vendors’ current pricing and the options your captures require.

The screenshot is blank or shows a CAPTCHA
Bot defenses can block a capture or change the page result. Browserless explicitly warns about blank, CAPTCHA, or access-denied captures. Confirm that you are authorized to access the target, review its terms, and validate the result during a pilot. Do not treat an image response as proof that the intended page content was captured.

The image misses content that appears after navigation
Set an appropriate selector wait or readiness control instead of assuming navigation completion means the page is ready. CloudConvert documents waiting for CSS selectors; Browserless documents wait controls. Choose a selector tied to the content you need and test it on both ordinary and slower pages.
A scheduled job starts but the capture is not available yet
When using CloudConvert asynchronously, use its documented job and webhook pattern rather than blocking a scheduler on a long-running task; CloudConvert recommends avoiding blocking on long-running jobs. Make the workflow distinguish job submission from completion. For Browserless, ensure the calling workflow waits for the API response and records errors before marking a run complete.

Retries create unexpected usage
Track attempts separately from successful scheduled runs, set a retry limit, and alert on repeated failure. Browserless usage depends on metered browser time and plan terms; CloudConvert’s advertised per-file starting rate does not define the cost of every configuration or volume. Review actual usage against the current billing model.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo takes a URL in one GET request and returns a screenshot or PDF. For example, this cURL request saves a WebP capture of Stripe:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. Cookie banners are accepted and removed before the shot, along with known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; those cleanup steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads and cache hits are not billed. An MCP server lets AI agents use the take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf tools. The Free plan includes 1,000 shots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Sign up for ScreenshotNeo’s free plan.
Practical decision
Pick CloudConvert if the job model, webhooks, and storage integrations fit the surrounding workflow; pick Browserless if you need its screenshot endpoint or broader browser options. In either case, design scheduling and operations explicitly, run a representative pilot, and compare costs against the same measured workload before making the recurring job permanent.
