Both CloudConvert and PDFCrowd document converting a website URL to PDF, but they suit different integration needs. CloudConvert’s documented website-capture route uses a job with capture and export tasks. PDFCrowd documents a direct HTTP request that can take a URL, raw HTML, or an HTML file/archive and return PDF bytes. If your application already has HTML, PDFCrowd has the clearer documented input path; if you need a website URL, either service is an option. Neither service can be called more accurate or faster on the evidence available here, so test pages from your own workload before choosing.
CloudConvert vs PDFCrowd at a glance
| Need | CloudConvert | PDFCrowd |
|---|---|---|
| Convert a public website URL | Documented through the capture-website task with PDF as an output format. The documented workflow creates a job and exports the task output. |
Documented through the URL input to its HTML-to-PDF API; a successful HTTP response contains PDF bytes. |
| Submit raw HTML | The reviewed website-capture operation requires a URL; raw HTML is not shown for that operation. | Documented input options include an HTML string, URL, or uploaded HTML file/archive. |
| Set page layout | The capture example demonstrates margins and header/footer templates with placeholders. | Documentation lists page setup, margins, headers/footers, CSS, JavaScript, readiness controls, and other PDF options. |
| How the API flow works | Job/task workflow, followed by an export step. | Versioned HTTP POST with Basic authentication and form input; PDF returned in the response body. |
| Published usage meter | Credits generally depend on processing time plus a conversion-type base amount. | Credits depend on generated output size: one credit per 0.5 MB, according to its pricing page. |
| Retention details established here | A comparable retention detail was not established in the reviewed vendor material. | Vendor says files, submitted HTML, and output are removed from active processing systems within 30 minutes; URL-log retention defaults to 14 days and can be set to no storage. |
These are differences in documented workflows and terms, not a head-to-head rendering test. A feature listed by one service should not be assumed to work identically in the other.
Which service fits your HTML-to-PDF workflow?
Choose PDFCrowd when your application already has the HTML
PDFCrowd explicitly documents raw HTML input, along with URL and file/archive input. That is useful when your application renders a report or invoice and can submit the resulting markup directly instead of publishing a page for a remote service to fetch. For raw HTML with images, stylesheets, or fonts, use absolute asset URLs or a <base> element; for local assets, the API guide documents sending them in a supported archive.
Consider CloudConvert when its job model fits your pipeline
CloudConvert’s documented capture-website operation accepts a URL and can produce a PDF. Its job-based pattern—capture, then export—may suit a workflow already organized around CloudConvert jobs and tasks. The reviewed capture example shows configurable margins and header/footer templates; check the current operation parameters for any additional layout requirement.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For a URL-only conversion, decide by requirements and sample output
Both vendors document a URL route. The available product documentation does not establish which better handles arbitrary JavaScript-heavy pages, complex print CSS, page breaks, fonts, or unusually long pages. Run representative pages through both and inspect the resulting PDFs before committing to one. Compare the actual output as well as the integration and billing model.
API workflows and input constraints
CloudConvert: capture task and export
The website-capture documentation shows a CloudConvert v2 job with a capture-website task configured with a required URL and output format, followed by an export task that makes the result available as a URL. The capture page includes cURL and SDK examples. Follow the current documentation for request structure, authentication, and output retrieval rather than treating the capture operation as a single direct PDF-byte response.
CloudConvert’s broader API quickstart describes jobs made from import, conversion, and export tasks. For this topic, use the website-capture operation rather than assuming a generic file-conversion task is the same thing.

PDFCrowd: POST input and receive PDF bytes
PDFCrowd documents an HTTP POST to https://api.pdfcrowd.com/convert/24.04/, authenticated with HTTP Basic authentication using a PDFCrowd username and API key. The request can submit a URL, raw HTML string, or uploaded HTML/archive through form fields; file uploads use multipart form data. On success, the documented response is HTTP 200 with the PDF in the response body.
- A URL must be reachable from PDFCrowd’s servers. A local
localhostaddress is not reachable by the service. - Raw HTML should reference remote assets with absolute URLs or a
<base>element. - Package local assets with the HTML in a supported archive when they cannot be fetched from a public URL.
Consult the current HTTP guide and parameter reference for exact field names, supported inputs, API version, and response handling.
Layout, dynamic pages, and PDF requirements
Controls documented by PDFCrowd
PDFCrowd lists page size and orientation, margins, page breaks, headers and footers, page numbers, print CSS, custom CSS and JavaScript, readiness controls, viewport and responsive behavior, remote fonts and images, and protected content. Its HTTP guide and parameter reference also describe controls such as waiting for dynamic content, targeting a page element, using print media, handling CSS @page rules, and disabling JavaScript. The product page lists watermarking, password protection, PDF/A archival output, and tagged PDF output; verify specific conformance or behavior against the current parameter reference and converter version before relying on it.

Controls demonstrated by CloudConvert
CloudConvert’s website-capture example demonstrates page margins and header/footer templates. Template placeholders shown include date, title, URL, page number, and total pages. That example is not proof of parity with every PDFCrowd setting: confirm each required option in CloudConvert’s current Job Builder and operation parameters.
Test the page cases that matter to your users
Before implementation, include pages that exercise your actual rendering requirements: a long report with page breaks, a page with delayed JavaScript content, remote fonts and images, responsive layouts, and any protected content you need to convert. Check whether headers, footers, margins, and print styles render as intended. No independent quality or speed measurements are established here, so do not choose from a presumed fidelity ranking.

Pricing and estimating conversion cost
CloudConvert credits
CloudConvert’s pricing page, reviewed in 2026, describes a free tier with 10 credits per day, a 1 GB maximum file size, a five-minute maximum processing time, and five concurrent tasks. Its general explanation says packages and subscriptions typically use one credit per minute plus a base amount by conversion type; it lists a one-credit base for general conversions and two credits for Office-to-PDF and iWork-to-PDF. Package credits do not expire; subscription credits reset monthly. Paid-plan prices were not available in the reviewed page capture, so no current euro price or cost per credit is stated here. These are vendor-published plan terms, not measured usage results.

PDFCrowd credits
PDFCrowd’s pricing page, reviewed in 2026, says the trial includes 100 test API credits valid for one month. Its API usage is billed at one credit per 0.5 MB of generated output, with credits refreshing at the start of each billing period. The pricing page frames plans around document volume and whether usage is online, API, or both; monetary plan amounts were not available in the reviewed page capture.
Estimate with the same pages, not the same credit count
The units are not interchangeable: CloudConvert describes a time-and-base-credit model, while PDFCrowd describes output-size billing. Convert the same representative URLs or HTML files on each service, including image-heavy and JavaScript-heavy examples, then estimate against the vendors’ current plan terms or calculators. A simple comparison of credit totals would not establish which is cheaper.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Privacy and retention questions
PDFCrowd says submitted HTML, uploaded files, and generated PDF or image output are kept only as long as needed for processing and availability, then deleted from active processing systems within 30 minutes. It says it does not make backup copies of those content files. Converted URLs may be retained in conversion logs according to account settings; the default is 14 days, with an option for no URL storage. PDFCrowd identifies its operator as Pdfcrowd s.r.o. in the Czech Republic, publishes subprocessors, and offers a DPA for business customers. These are vendor disclosures, not an independent audit.

A comparable CloudConvert retention statement is not established here; do not assume its handling matches PDFCrowd’s. If you process personal, confidential, regulated, or customer content, check both vendors’ current privacy terms, data processing agreements, subprocessors, transfer terms, deletion behavior, and access and security controls before selecting a service.
ScreenshotNeo as an alternative for screenshot workflows
If the real requirement is a clean website screenshot rather than a PDF, try ScreenshotNeo first: its API returns PNG, JPEG, or WebP screenshots or a PDF, and it removes cookie/consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture. It is a screenshot API and MCP server, not a claim that it matches CloudConvert or PDFCrowd’s HTML-to-PDF controls.
Or skip the browser setup
One GET request takes a URL. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for parameters and response details.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for free.
