The cost depends on whether you use a relay that sends a stream to YouTube or a managed platform that also delivers the video to viewers. Those are different services with different billing. First decide what you mean by a cloud streaming service
A cloud relay runs the playlist and sends the live feed to YouTube. Viewers watch on YouTube, so the relay’s relevant costs are usually its service or compute charge and any metered traffic it sends to YouTube. A managed video platform may instead ingest, encode, store, and deliver video through its own player or app. Its viewer-delivery charges do not automatically apply to a YouTube audience.
YouTube’s encoder instructions describe connecting by entering the YouTube Live server URL and stream key in an encoder. The stream key authorizes the encoder to send to the channel; do not share it publicly. A cloud relay needs to support the intended YouTube workflow, playlist, and continuous operation. Confirm those details before comparing a platform’s published rate with a relay price.

Why Cloudflare’s per-minute rate can mislead
Cloudflare describes a managed workflow in which a creator sends a live feed by RTMPS or SRT to a Cloudflare live input; Cloudflare encodes it and provides playback through its player or HLS/DASH. Its $1-per-1,000-minutes delivery charge is for that playback. As an arithmetic illustration, a single viewer watching Cloudflare-hosted video continuously for a 30-day month (43,200 minutes) would imply $43.20 in delivery charges, before recording or storage. That is not the cost of sending a feed to YouTube, and it should not be multiplied by YouTube’s viewer count unless Cloudflare serves those viewers.

Build a realistic budget for a self-managed cloud relay
The available information does not establish one authoritative monthly price for a named cloud VM or container that continuously relays a playlist to YouTube. Calculate or request a quote using the actual workload rather than borrowing a managed platform’s viewer-delivery rate.
- Specify the service and region. Provider, instance or container size, region, and whether the relay runs continuously all month.
- Set the stream format. State the resolution, frame rate, and continuous outbound bitrate you intend to use. Ask whether the service transcodes or passes the source through, and whether different renditions add cost.
- Check traffic to YouTube. Ask whether outbound transfer is metered, what allowance or rate applies in that region, and whether sending to YouTube is billed differently from delivery to end viewers.
- Include recording and retention. Price any recording, storage capacity, retention period, and archive delivery separately. A service’s streaming input price may not include storage or video serving.
- Price continuity requirements. Include monitoring, restart behavior, backup feeds, and any failover resources. Confirm what happens after a process or connection interruption.
- Separate YouTube playback from third-party playback. If viewers watch in YouTube, do not add a vendor’s own-player delivery rate unless that vendor actually serves those viewers.
For a self-managed setup, a 24/7 estimate is not just the hourly compute rate multiplied by the month. Include continuous runtime, outbound traffic, disk or object storage, recording, monitoring, and any backup capacity. For managed platforms, separate input, output, storage, and recording lines on the quote.

Plan the YouTube stream and archive deliberately
Use YouTube’s Live server URL and stream key in the encoder or cloud relay’s YouTube destination settings. The available source information does not establish a recommended bitrate or resolution for every church stream; choose settings supported by the source files, upload workflow, relay, and YouTube’s current encoder guidance rather than assuming one profile fits all.
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived. A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so a continuous 24/7 broadcast is not a reliable way to create a complete archive. If preserving sermons matters, arrange a separate recording or divide broadcasts into shorter sessions and verify the resulting archive workflow in YouTube Studio.

Rights and other costs a church should not overlook
YouTube’s Live Stream Terms and Conditions state that the content provider represents and warrants it has the necessary rights to exploit live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses), and other royalty participants. A church should review rights for worship music, recordings, and other third-party material in the playlist; permission to use a sermon recording does not by itself establish permission for every musical or broadcast element. Questions to ask before accepting a cloud quote
- Does the service continuously relay an uploaded playlist to YouTube, or does it host playback on its own site or app?
- What exactly is billed: compute, ingest, encoding, outbound traffic to YouTube, viewer delivery, recording, and storage?
- Which resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and region does the quote assume?
- How much storage and retention are included, and are archives served through a separate CDN?
- How are disconnects, restarts, and YouTube drops handled, and are backup or monitoring charges separate?
- What is the plan for archives given YouTube’s 12-hour capture caveat?
