For a scheduled, pre-recorded YouTube event that should replay a video a limited number of times, Restream is the more direct documented option. Its hosted workflow can start an event automatically and supports up to 10 plays, with a maximum stream duration of 40 hours. Switchboard Live can relay prerecorded video from a compatible encoder, but its cited FAQ does not establish native file looping or scheduled playback. Neither workflow, on the available documentation, establishes uninterrupted indefinite playback from one video.

Choose Restream for a scheduled, finite loop
Restream’s documented flow is the closer match if you want to upload or select a recording, set a future YouTube event, and have it begin without manually starting the encoder at broadcast time. YouTube is among the channels that support an advance event post, according to the current scheduling guide.
Looping is bounded: Restream documents up to 10 repetitions and a maximum stream length of 40 hours. Its scheduling guide says looping is available on Marathon and Media add-ons; the separate loop article describes looping as a paid feature. Do not treat this as proof of an indefinitely repeating 24/7 stream.
Create a pre-recorded event
- In Restream, create a new stream and choose Pre-recorded livestream, then Video.
- Select an existing recording or upload a video file.
- Enter the event title and description, and set its date and time.
- If the plan and event support it, set the loop count and choose a thumbnail.
- Select YouTube and any other desired channels, then create the event. Restream says the event begins automatically at the scheduled time.
Some end platforms may still require a manual Go Live action after Restream starts. The guide names TikTok and Instagram as examples. YouTube supports an advance event post in the documented workflow.

What the loop limit means in practice
Plan the video length and repetition count so the total event fits within the 40-hour maximum. For example, a 4-hour recording played 10 times would total 40 hours before any additional runtime; a longer recording cannot be repeated 10 times within that ceiling. Restream’s looping article also says playlists do not themselves support looping. It describes duplicating videos in a playlist, with a limit of 40 videos; that is a workaround, not an unlimited single-file loop.
Choose Switchboard when an encoder is part of your setup
Switchboard’s prerecorded path is encoder-driven: the compatible encoder plays the file and sends its output to Switchboard, which handles distribution. The company’s FAQ names OBS, Ecamm, and Switcher Studio as tools that support streaming prerecorded video, and says Switchboard does not store those videos. It also says RTMP is currently the supported ingest protocol.

Set up the encoder relay
- In Switchboard, create a workflow and note its server URL and stream key. The FAQ says each workflow has its own URL and key.
- Open a playback-capable encoder, such as OBS, Ecamm, or Switcher Studio, and configure its media playback to use the recording you want to send.
- Configure the encoder’s RTMP output with that workflow’s server URL and stream key.
- Start playback and confirm that the feed reaches the workflow and selected destinations.
This path does not make Switchboard the video player or file host. You need the encoder and its playback configuration to send the recording; the cited documentation does not establish that Switchboard can schedule or repeat that recording on its own. The FAQ describes up to 30 destinations in a workflow, but destination count does not change the playback responsibility.
Check costs and plan limits before choosing
Restream’s official scheduling guide, accessed October 3, 2026, listed the following plan figures. Prices and packaging can change, so verify the current checkout details before purchase.

The guide says recorded-video streaming is available to all Restream users, while file-size and storage allowances depend on add-on tier. Switchboard’s cited FAQ does not provide a comparable price, so these figures do not support a price comparison between the services. Confirm current eligibility, limits, and checkout pricing with each provider.
What to verify before you schedule a YouTube loop
- Duration: Calculate the total runtime from the video length and repeat count. Restream’s documented loop ceiling is 40 hours.
- Announcement: Decide whether to create an advance YouTube event post; Restream’s guide says YouTube supports this.
- Rights and channel compliance: Make sure you have the necessary rights to the recording, music, and other material, and that the planned broadcast complies with YouTube’s rules. The product guides do not establish that a particular video or channel is eligible.
- Playback ownership: With Switchboard, confirm the encoder can play the file and remain connected for the whole stream. Switchboard’s FAQ says it does not store prerecorded videos.
- Current product limits: Check the vendors’ current documentation and your account’s plan details, especially because features, storage, and prices can change.
Which should you use?
Use Restream when your goal is a hosted, scheduled prerecorded YouTube event with a finite repeat count inside the documented 40-hour limit. Use Switchboard when you already want an external encoder to play and send the recording, and Switchboard’s destination workflow is the part you need. If the requirement is a continuously repeating YouTube channel rather than a bounded event, neither cited workflow establishes indefinite 24/7 playback.
