On DigitalOcean’s listed prices checked October 3, 2026, a continuously deployed Basic Droplet with 1 GiB RAM and 1 vCPU costs $6 per month; the entry CPU-Optimized Droplet with 4 GiB RAM and 2 vCPUs costs $42 per month. At unchanged prices, that is $72 versus $504 for 12 months, before add-ons, taxes, or outbound transfer overages. These are compute-plan costs, not guaranteed totals for running a YouTube stream.

Basic vs. CPU-Optimized: listed configurations and costs

DigitalOcean’s pricing page lists these representative configurations. Basic uses shared CPU; CPU-Optimized uses dedicated CPU. The plans differ in more than CPU allocation, so this is not a like-for-like comparison.

Plan CPU RAM / vCPU Included transfer Listed hourly rate Monthly cap 12 months at unchanged prices
Basic Shared 1 GiB / 1 1,000 GiB $0.00893 $6 $72
CPU-Optimized Dedicated 4 GiB / 2 4,000 GiB $0.06250 $42 $504

Source: DigitalOcean Droplet pricing, accessed October 3, 2026. The annual amounts are calculations from the listed monthly prices, not separately published prices. The CPU-Optimized example is seven times the monthly price, with four times the RAM, twice the vCPUs, dedicated rather than shared CPU, and four times the included transfer.

What the monthly price does—and does not—cover

For a Droplet that remains deployed all month, the listed monthly cap is the useful 24/7 compute comparison: $6 for the cited Basic plan and $42 for the cited CPU-Optimized plan. The difference is $36 per month, or $432 over 12 months at unchanged prices. The calculation excludes add-ons, taxes, and billed outbound transfer beyond the team’s included pool.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

DigitalOcean bills bundled CPU Droplets per second, subject to a 60-second or $0.01 minimum, and caps monthly usage at 672 hours. Multiplying the displayed hourly price by every hour in a calendar month can therefore overstate the monthly compute charge. A powered-off Droplet still incurs compute charges because its capacity remains reserved; destroy it to stop those charges. See DigitalOcean’s Droplet pricing documentation, last verified August 25, 2026.

How outbound transfer can change the bill

The listed Basic example includes 1,000 GiB of transfer; CPU-Optimized includes 4,000 GiB. DigitalOcean pools outbound transfer across a team’s Droplets rather than treating each Droplet’s allowance as an isolated cap. Inbound transfer is free; outbound transfer beyond the team’s pool costs $0.01/GiB, according to the official billing documentation.

Consequently, an individual stream’s overage depends on its actual outbound volume and the other Droplets using the team pool. The cited official pages do not establish a bitrate or audience architecture for your stream, so they do not support a universal monthly bandwidth estimate. The prices above should not be read as an all-in YouTube streaming bill.

Which plan fits a 24/7 YouTube workload?

Choose Basic when shared CPU is sufficient

DigitalOcean positions Basic as a lower-cost choice for workloads that underuse dedicated threads and can tolerate variable CPU levels. That makes it the less expensive starting point when your streaming setup does not need sustained dedicated compute. The lower price alone does not establish that a particular encoder or stream process will run reliably on this configuration.

Consider CPU-Optimized for sustained or CPU-heavy processing

DigitalOcean describes CPU-Optimized plans as suited to applications demanding fast, consistent performance, including media streaming. Its official calculator also lists dedicated CPU for media streaming and other CPU-intensive workloads. Documentation describes this plan family as having a roughly 2:1 memory-to-CPU ratio. These are provider descriptions, not proof that every YouTube stream requires CPU-Optimized: the cited sources give no YouTube-specific minimum or measured Basic-versus-CPU-Optimized streaming test. Consider the premium if your workload performs sustained CPU-heavy processing, such as encoding or transcoding, and assess the actual resource needs.

See DigitalOcean’s pricing page, its pricing calculator, and CPU Droplet plan-selection documentation for the provider’s plan descriptions. Prices and allowances can change; check the current listings before committing.

If you do not want to manage a Droplet

For an alternative to operating your own cloud server, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video or playlist live on YouTube from the cloud. Upload the recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live; your computer can be off. It is always on from the cloud, supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and the first day is free with no card. Unlike a rented Droplet, it is a service for looping uploaded videos, not a general-purpose server or camera broadcast. Learn more at StreamNeo.
