To capture a website with GrabzIt’s Python API, create a GrabzItClient with your application key and secret, submit the page URL with URLToImage(), then retrieve the result with SaveTo() or the asynchronous Save() callback. The choice depends mainly on where your script runs: SaveTo() is suited to local scripts and desktop applications, while Save() needs a reachable callback handler.
Capture a website and save the screenshot
GrabzIt’s documented flow has two parts: submit the capture request and then retrieve the resulting image. Calling URLToImage() alone does not complete the workflow.
- Get the application key and secret from your GrabzIt account.
- Install GrabzIt’s Python library. The official guide says it can be installed with pip or downloaded manually; consult the current guide for the installation command and compatibility details, which are not established here.
- Save this script as a Python file and replace the credential strings and target URL:
from GrabzIt import GrabzItClient
client = GrabzItClient.GrabzItClient("APPLICATION KEY", "APPLICATION SECRET")
client.URLToImage("https://example.com")
client.SaveTo("result.jpg")
Run the file in an environment where the library is installed. If the capture succeeds, result.jpg is written to the path supplied to SaveTo(). The extension reflects the documented default JPG output. The credentials in this example are placeholders; use your own account credentials.
Choose synchronous or callback-based retrieval
| Method | What happens | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
SaveTo(path) |
The call waits for the capture and writes it to a file. | Local scripts, desktop applications, and localhost development. |
Save(callback_url) |
GrabzIt calls your handler when the capture is complete. | A web application with a publicly reachable callback endpoint. |
GetStatus(id) and GetResult(id) |
The technical reference documents status checking and retrieving capture bytes by ID. | Use when your application needs to manage capture status and result retrieval directly. |
GrabzIt recommends the callback approach where a reachable handler is available, since the application need not wait for processing or repeatedly poll. Its Python API documentation says, “Always use the SaveTo method on localhost.” A localhost-only callback cannot generally be reached by the hosted service, so use SaveTo() for that situation. No reliable capture-completion time is established in the documentation cited here; avoid building a fixed completion-time assumption into your application.

Render HTML, choose an image format, or capture the full page
Use HTML or a local file as input
For content you provide rather than a live website URL, the API also documents HTMLToImage for HTML content and FileToImage for a local HTML file. These change the capture input; the result still needs to be saved or retrieved.
Select an output format
JPG is the documented default. The image options page lists JPG, PNG, WEBP, BMP variants, and TIFF; the technical reference also lists SVG. Because the two references present the supported formats differently, verify the current format-specific behavior before depending on a particular output. GrabzIt describes PNG as a useful balance of quality and file size when JPG quality is insufficient. The technical reference documents a quality option for JPG and WEBP output.

Capture a full-length page
For a full-length screenshot, the image options documentation directs users to set browserHeight, width, and height to -1. This does not create an infinitely wide browser capture: GrabzIt explicitly notes, “there is no full length browser width.” Treat the setting as a way to capture page height, not unlimited width.
Adjust what the capture includes and how the page loads
The technical reference documents these options for tailoring a capture:

delayadds a delay measured in milliseconds before capture.waitForElementwaits for visible page content, andtargetElementselects an element to capture.hideElementhides selected page elements.clickElementandhoverElementinteract with a page before capture. Only one of click, hover, or scroll can be specified at a time.requestAsselects standard, mobile, or search-engine user-agent modes.
These controls can help with delayed or interactive pages, but they are options rather than a guarantee that every dynamic site will render identically. For pages that depend on scripts, consent dialogs, or other interactions, choose a wait or interaction appropriate to the page and inspect the resulting image.
Capture a mobile version of a website
GrabzIt documents using its Python screenshot API to capture mobile versions of websites. Whether the result is meaningfully different from a standard capture depends on the target site: not every website has a special mobile version, and the documentation warns that mobile capture may not work in all circumstances. The cited material does not establish a particular device model or viewport size, so do not assume a specific handset simulation.

Troubleshoot common implementation problems
- No image appears after
URLToImage(): the request submission is not the retrieval step. AddSaveTo(path)or use the callback-basedSave(callback_url)flow. - A callback never arrives during local development: a localhost handler is not reachable as a public callback endpoint. Use
SaveTo()locally, or make a suitable handler reachable to the service. - The saved file is not the expected type or quality: JPG is the documented default. Select an appropriate documented format and, for JPG or WEBP, review the
qualityoption. Verify format-specific support against the current documentation. - The full-page image is too narrow or does not span the page horizontally: the full-length settings address page height; GrabzIt states there is no full-length browser width setting. Set the capture width deliberately rather than expecting unlimited horizontal capture.
- Content is missing because the page loads dynamically: consider
delayorwaitForElement, or use an allowed interaction option such asclickElementorhoverElement. These settings cannot guarantee identical rendering on every site. - The mobile result looks like the desktop page: the site may not provide a special mobile version, or mobile capture may not work for that site. The documented behavior is site-dependent.

ScreenshotNeo offers a one-request alternative to integrating a browser capture workflow. This cURL example saves a WebP screenshot of a website:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request details. Before capture, ScreenshotNeo can accept cookie or consent banners like a visitor and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots. Sign up for ScreenshotNeo’s free plan.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I retrieve a GrabzIt screenshot as bytes instead of saving directly to a file?
The technical reference documents GetResult(id) for retrieving capture bytes; consult the current API reference for the exact integration flow.
