To schedule different game VODs on a 24/7 YouTube channel, schedule a live event in YouTube Studio and send it a continuous encoder feed that plays the videos in sequence. YouTube Studio schedules the event; the encoder or playback service controls which VOD plays and when. YouTube does not turn uploaded videos into a live playlist by itself.
Before you schedule game VODs
Check the media and the channel before building a continuous rotation:
- Confirm you own or have permission to broadcast the gameplay footage, music, overlays, and any other included material. The ability to send a video technically does not establish broadcast rights.
- Check current YouTube policies for live content, copyright, monetization, and repetitive or reused content. A loop may be technically possible without being eligible for monetization.
- Prepare the videos in the order you want them to play. If you expect the rotation to repeat, confirm that your chosen playback method supports looping.
- If this is your first time enabling live streaming, allow up to 24 hours for YouTube to activate it, as noted in YouTube’s live-stream setup instructions.
Choose how to play the VODs
YouTube requires an encoder to send the video feed. The scheduling page handles the broadcast event, while the playback method provides the media.
| Method | How it handles VODs | Best fit | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo (cloud) | Upload videos, arrange a playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and start the stream; it loops uploaded video from the cloud. | Creators who want a continuous YouTube stream without leaving a home computer running. | Cloud service cost and its service-specific limits; check current terms. |
| Local software encoder, such as OBS | Configure local media playback or a playlist in the encoder and send the resulting feed to YouTube. | Creators who want direct control of local files and can operate a dedicated computer. | The computer, power, internet connection, and encoder must remain available. |
| Dedicated hardware | YouTube’s encoder directory lists AJA HELO Plus with PlayToStream for scheduling prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live. | Creators with a specific need for standalone hardware. | Specialized equipment; verify current capabilities, price, and availability before buying. |
| YouTube Live Streaming API | Creates and manages YouTube broadcast and stream resources; a separate media playback and encoder system is still needed. | Developers building broadcast scheduling or management integrations. | It does not play VOD files on its own. |
YouTube lists OBS among its software encoders and describes its scheduled-stream workflow in YouTube Help. API operations are documented by Google for Developers. The AJA hardware listing is in YouTube’s encoder directory on the same Help page. Product feature descriptions for cloud services are vendor claims, not independent reliability tests.

Schedule the YouTube live event
- Open YouTube Studio, select Create, then Go Live.
- Open Manage and select Schedule stream.
- Choose to reuse settings from a previous stream or create a new scheduled stream. Set the event details and schedule it.
- Copy the shareable event URL if you want viewers to find the scheduled broadcast and set reminders.
These steps schedule the event, not the playlist. The video sequence comes from the encoder or cloud playback workflow.
Connect the VOD playback to YouTube
With local software
- Install and configure an encoder such as OBS. YouTube lists OBS as open-source streaming software.
- Set up the VOD file or playlist as the encoder’s media source, and configure its playback and repeat behavior in the software. YouTube’s help page identifies OBS as an encoder but does not prescribe a particular OBS playlist setup; check the current OBS controls for your installed version.
- In YouTube Studio’s live control room for the scheduled event, copy the stream URL and stream key. Enter those values in the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the stream key as a password; do not share it publicly.
- Start the encoder and verify that the video appears in YouTube’s preview. For the scheduled workflow documented by YouTube, wait for the preview and then click Go live in Studio.
- Check the live preview, stream status, and transitions between videos. Keep the computer, encoder, power, and network running for the full broadcast.
With a cloud playlist service
- Upload the authorized VOD files to the service and arrange them in the intended order.
- Set the playlist to continue or loop as needed, then enter YouTube’s RTMP destination and stream key in the service.
- Start the cloud feed. In YouTube Studio, verify the preview and complete the scheduled event’s Go live step when prompted.
- Monitor the live status and playlist order. Service descriptions may mention reconnect or monitoring features, but those are provider statements rather than independent reliability measurements.
Plan for a broadcast longer than 12 hours
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not establish that a continuous 24/7 broadcast will produce one complete archive. Plan how you will rotate or manage the broadcast and its archives, then verify the result in Studio. Avoid assuming that one uninterrupted stream will leave a single complete VOD.

Can YouTube Studio schedule a playlist of uploaded game videos as a live stream by itself?
