Choose an extension when you want a more direct toolbar action or its advertised export and save-handling options. This is a feature-based comparison, not a controlled test of speed or reliability.
Chrome already has a full-page screenshot command
In Chrome DevTools, open the device toolbar and its More options menu, then choose Capture a full size screenshot. Chrome captures the page beyond the portion currently visible in the viewport. The nearby Capture screenshot command captures only the current viewport. See Chrome’s Device Mode documentation.
Because the built-in workflow needs no separate extension, it is a sensible default for a one-off or occasional capture. That is a practical recommendation based on the documented workflow, not a claim that DevTools is faster or more reliable than extensions.
When an extension is more convenient
A full-page screenshot extension can put capture behind a toolbar action or configured shortcut and may offer additional export or file-handling choices. Those can be useful if you capture pages frequently or need a particular output format without navigating DevTools.

These are vendor-listed capabilities, not independent verification or a reliability comparison. Check the current listing for each extension’s supported features and use the installer’s toolbar action or shortcut as that listing describes.

Check permissions before installing
Chrome’s debugger API documentation says the API provides extensions with a restricted subset of DevTools Protocol domains. Its permissions documentation explains that an extension using the API must declare the debugger permission. This is not a claim that every screenshot extension uses that API.

Before adding an extension, review the permission prompt and the extension’s privacy disclosures. Install only if the access requested makes sense for its stated purpose; if the built-in command meets your needs, you can avoid granting a separate extension permissions altogether.
Full-page capture has page-specific limits
A full-page command or extension does not guarantee that every dynamic page will appear as one complete image. A listing for FullPageShot identifies virtualized or infinite-scroll feeds, some editor preview shells, and lazy content inside embedded frames as cases that can cause problems. It also says Chrome internal pages and the Chrome Web Store cannot be captured with that extension, and specifies Chrome 118 or later. These are that listing’s stated constraints, not universal limits for all extensions or all capture methods.

For long pages, check the resulting image rather than assuming that content loaded only after scrolling was included. If the capture omits or repeats sections, try the other method, inspect the extension’s stated limitations, or capture smaller sections where practical.
