Usually, yes. YouTube’s guidance says creators can set up multiple live streams at once, subject to a limit. That supports starting a separate stream while an earlier stream’s archive is processing, but YouTube does not explicitly guarantee that archive processing can never block a new broadcast. If Live Control Room lets you set up and start the new stream, you do not need to wait for the earlier recording just because it is still processing.
Why a pending archive usually does not mean you must wait
When a livestream ends, YouTube handles its recording as an archive. Setting up and starting a broadcast is a separate workflow: YouTube’s encoder instructions cover creating a stream, connecting an encoder and going live, while its archive guidance covers what happens to the recording after the stream ends. The help pages do not say that archive processing must finish before you can start another stream, nor do they provide a general processing-time estimate. YouTube’s encoder setup guide and its archive guidance describe those steps separately.
More directly, YouTube says creators can repeat the setup process to broadcast multiple live streams at once, up to a limit. That supports running a new, separate stream while an earlier archive is pending. It is not a processing-specific guarantee, and the cited guidance does not state the numeric concurrency limit. YouTube’s guidance on streaming across platforms explains the multiple-stream option.
Start the next stream safely
- Open YouTube Studio and select the intended stream in Live Control Room. Make sure you are setting up the new event, rather than changing the settings for the earlier one. YouTube’s live stream settings guide covers stream setup.
- Connect the encoder to that stream. Use the server URL and stream key shown for the selected stream. If you use an encoder, YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes the connection and go-live flow.
- Check the preview before going live. Confirm that the expected video and audio appear, then follow the Live Control Room prompts to start. YouTube recommends checking the preview and monitoring audio and video quality in its livestream tips.
- If the encoder cannot connect, troubleshoot the encoder connection. YouTube suggests generating a new stream key in Live Control Room and updating the encoder for certain third-party encoder errors. This is an encoder troubleshooting step, not a fix for a pending or slow archive. See YouTube’s livestream troubleshooting guide.
Protect the recording that is still processing
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived. It warns that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Because archive availability is not assured for a longer stream, keep your own recording when the footage matters. YouTube recommends a local archive backup and advises checking that the local archive file is growing; neither action speeds up processing on YouTube’s servers. For the specific question of starting another live event, no new service or equipment is required by the cited YouTube guidance.
