Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

For normal authenticated requests, its API documentation lists 250 documents per minute; unauthenticated requests are limited to 2 per minute, and sandbox requests to 10 per minute. A request that exceeds a rate limit receives HTTP 429. These figures are distinct from how many monthly credits your account has or how many conversions can run at once.
PDFShift’s documented rate limits
PDFShift’s official API documentation, accessed in 2026, lists these rate ceilings. The page does not show a publication or effective date, and it does not describe account-specific exceptions.
| Request context | Published limit |
|---|---|
| Unauthenticated | 2 requests per minute |
| Authenticated | 250 documents per minute |
| Sandbox mode | 10 requests per minute |
Use the limit that matches the request actually reaching PDFShift. In particular, do not assume that the authenticated allowance applies if the request is missing or not using valid authentication. The documentation says “documents” for the authenticated limit; it does not promise a particular sustained conversion throughput. See PDFShift’s rate-limit documentation for its current wording.
What to do when you receive HTTP 429
A 429 response indicates rate throttling. PDFShift documents three response headers that help you understand the limit state:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
X-RateLimit-Remaining: the remaining requests in the current rate window.X-RateLimit-Limit: the rate limit.X-RateLimit-Reset: the reset time as a Unix timestamp in seconds.
Inspect the headers before retrying. Wait until the indicated reset time rather than immediately replaying a batch of requests; repeated immediate retries can continue to hit the same limit. If requests that should be authenticated appear to be using the 2-per-minute unauthenticated allowance, verify that your authentication is present and accepted. PDFShift documents the limits and headers, but does not publish a universal retry schedule in the cited rate-limit page.
Rate limits are not monthly credits
The requests-per-minute ceiling controls short-window traffic. Monthly usage is measured separately in credits, and a single conversion may consume more than one credit depending on the generated file size.

PDFShift’s displayed pricing page in 2026 lists 50 free monthly credits. Its credit explanation says a generated file up to 5 MB uses one credit, with larger files charged in 5 MB increments rounded up: a 4 MB file uses one credit, a 9 MB file uses two, a 14 MB file uses three, and a 23 MB file uses five. The pricing page likewise says a 14 MB PDF consumes three credits. Check the live PDFShift pricing page and your account before relying on included amounts, since plan details can change.
Parallel conversions are a separate capacity limit
PDFShift’s FAQ says up to 50 conversions can run in parallel by default across plans. This is concurrency, not a per-minute rate allowance: a client can be below its request-rate ceiling yet still have work queued because it has reached the number of simultaneous conversions. The FAQ says parallel requests are queued and return 202 Accepted, with a webhook sent for each converted source. Contact PDFShift if you need a higher concurrency limit; do not assume that a plan upgrade automatically changes it.

Credit exhaustion, alerts, and overage
PDFShift’s FAQ describes usage alerts at 50%, 80%, and 100% of monthly credit usage. It says overage can be enabled to continue processing after the included quota is exhausted. The Help Center says overage is disabled by default and may be configured with a cap, so check your account settings and plan terms before expecting conversions to continue or estimating the bill.
The Help Center illustrates overage with a Business plan containing 25,000 credits, a configured 27,500-credit cap, and $0.02 per extra credit. Those are figures from that example, not a universal or guaranteed current overage price. Consult PDFShift’s overage-credit guidance for the explanation and confirm your own account’s settings.

Timeouts and file-size limits to account for
The 2026 pricing page lists a 15 MB maximum file size and a 30-second timeout for the free plan. PDFShift’s FAQ states a 30-second free-plan timeout and a 100-second default timeout for paid plans; it says premium-plan adjustments may be discussed with PDFShift. These are conversion constraints, not rate quotas. Verify the current plan terms for your account before designing around them.

- Processing stops after quota exhaustion: check whether overage is enabled and whether a cap is configured. It is disabled by default according to the Help Center.
- Conversion times out or file is rejected: compare the request with the file-size and timeout terms for your plan, which should be verified on the current pricing page.

If your task is to capture a webpage as an image or PDF rather than convert HTML into a PDF through PDFShift, ScreenshotNeo offers a one-request screenshot API. Its cookie and consent-banner cleanup accepts the banner as a visitor and removes 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server provides screenshot tools for AI agents, and the free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does PDFShift publish different request limits by plan?
The cited rate-limit page lists limits by authentication context and sandbox mode, not by subscription plan; it does not state whether account-specific exceptions exist.
Does a 202 response mean a conversion failed?
No. PDFShift’s FAQ says queued parallel conversions return 202 Accepted and a webhook is sent for each converted source.
