A normal Selenium screenshot saves the current browser window—it does not make content farther down the page load by itself. The exact scroll container and loading signal depend on the site, so use a bounded loop and adapt its stop condition rather than relying on one script for every page.
Why an ordinary Selenium screenshot misses infinite-scroll content
Selenium’s window screenshot methods, including save_screenshot() and get_screenshot_as_file(), capture the current browser window. Infinite-scroll pages often request more content only after scrolling, so taking a screenshot immediately can capture only the initial viewport. Selenium also provides execute_script() and execute_async_script() to run JavaScript in the page, which lets your automation scroll and coordinate with page-specific loading behavior. The reliable sequence is: load the page, trigger further content by scrolling, wait for the site to render it, stop when the relevant content is complete, then capture. A fixed sleep may work for one run and fail on another because loading behavior and network timing vary.
Build a bounded window-scroll capture
This illustrative pattern checks document height and stops after three consecutive checks without growth. It has a maximum iteration count to avoid an unbounded loop. Replace the short polling delay with a page-specific explicit wait whenever you can identify a reliable loading signal. The selectors and stop rule are not universal: a site may load content without changing document height, or may use an inner scrolling element instead of the window.

Make the wait and stopping rule meaningful
The sample’s one-second delay is only a placeholder, not a guaranteed loading time. Better signals include a known loading indicator disappearing, a new item appearing, or the count of relevant cards increasing. Selenium supports explicit waits through its Python API; use the condition that matches the page rather than assuming that the document height alone proves loading is finished.

A no-growth rule can also stop too early if the page is still fetching data, or continue until the iteration cap if content keeps arriving. If the site has an end marker or a known final item, prefer that condition and retain the cap as a safety bound.
Check whether the page scrolls inside an element
Some pages keep the document fixed and scroll a nested container, such as a results panel. Inspect the page in browser developer tools to find the element whose scrollTop changes as you scroll. Then read its scrollHeight and increment its scrollTop in your script, and wait for that container’s content to change. A window-based loop will not reliably load content from a nested scroller.

Choose the capture method after content has loaded

Selenium’s Chrome driver exposes execute_cdp_cmd(); the Chrome DevTools Protocol documents Page.captureScreenshot and its captureBeyondViewport parameter. The protocol supports PNG, JPEG, and WebP, plus optional clipping; consult the Chrome DevTools Protocol Page reference. Confirm that your installed Chrome and Selenium versions support the command and parameters you use.

Adapt the script to the target page
- Load the initial view. Wait for a useful page-specific condition, not merely navigation completion, if the site fills its content asynchronously.
- Identify the scroller. Determine whether scrolling changes the window or a nested element.
- Trigger loading in bounded increments. Scroll by a practical step or to the current end, then wait for the site’s loading indicator or content to update.
- Stop on evidence of completion. Prefer a known end marker or final item; otherwise use repeated no-growth checks and a maximum iteration or time limit.
- Capture deliberately. Return to the top for a window screenshot, or use a compatible Chromium beyond-viewport capture when the full rendered region is suitable.
Troubleshoot common failures
- The screenshot contains only the first screen: The capture method saves the current window, and the page may not have loaded later content. Scroll first, wait for new content, then capture.
- The loop stops before the final items: Document height may not change when content updates, or three stable checks may be too aggressive for a slow page. Wait for a meaningful item/count/loading signal and adjust the stability rule while keeping a hard limit.
- The page does not load more as the script scrolls: It may use a nested scrolling element. Find the actual container and scroll that element rather than
window. - The loop never settles: Content may continue loading, or the page may change height repeatedly. Use a known end condition where possible and enforce a maximum iteration or elapsed-time bound.
- CDP command or parameter is rejected: The command is Chromium-specific and compatibility depends on installed browser/protocol versions. Verify support for
Page.captureScreenshotandcaptureBeyondViewport; use the ordinary window screenshot if the environment does not support it. - The output file is incomplete or inconveniently large: A single very tall image may be impractical, and no universal maximum is established here. Consider whether a viewport capture or a different output workflow better fits the page and browser.
