1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo forward a live stream to another platform, either send a separate output from your encoder to each destination, or send one feed to a cloud relay and let it distribute the stream. Use direct outputs when you want local control and have enough upload bandwidth and encoding capacity; use a relay when you want a simpler setup or need to reach several destinations. Before going live, prepare each platform’s account and stream details, test the full setup, and check the receiving platforms’ rules.
What forwarding a live stream means
Sending the same live content to multiple services at once is commonly called simulcasting or multistreaming. YouTube calls it “simulstreaming” and says, “You can go live with the same content across multiple platforms at the same time.” YouTube Help: Stream across platforms
There are two main routes: send separate outputs directly from your streaming software or hardware, or send one incoming feed to a cloud relay that distributes it to selected destinations.
Choose between direct outputs and a cloud relay
| Route | How it works | Best fit | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Direct outputs | Your encoder sends a separate stream to each platform. | Creators who want direct control and have a capable computer or encoder. | Each output adds to the total target upload bitrate. Your encoder must also handle its workload. |
| Cloud relay | Your encoder sends one feed to a relay; the relay distributes it to the selected platforms. | Creators who want a simpler setup, less work on the local computer, or more than two destinations. | Connect accounts or create events, configure outputs, and check the service’s current platform and plan limits. |
YouTube describes direct encoding as suitable for people who want control and have a powerful computer, and cloud relays as simpler and useful for streaming to more than two channels. These are YouTube’s recommendations, not a guarantee that one route will perform better in every setup. YouTube Help

Prepare accounts, events, and stream details
- Confirm that each destination account is active and in good standing, and check that its rules allow the planned broadcast.
- Find each destination’s stream key and RTMP server URL if your encoder or relay asks for them. Treat stream keys like passwords: do not show or share them publicly.
- For YouTube, use a verified channel with live streaming enabled. YouTube says first-time activation takes at least 24 hours after the initial request, so enable it well before the event. YouTube Help
- If using a relay, connect destination accounts, select or create the intended live events, and enable the outputs before you start the encoder.
- If sending direct outputs, enter the correct ingest details for every destination in your software or hardware encoder.
Forward the stream from your encoder
Option 1: Send direct outputs
- Open your encoder’s streaming or output settings and add each destination’s RTMP server URL and stream key. The exact labels vary by encoder.
- Set the output profile and bitrate for each platform, then total the target bitrates. Do not assume that one platform’s bitrate setting is enough for all destinations.
- Check that the encoder and network can sustain the combined workload, then start the outputs and confirm that each platform receives the broadcast.
Option 2: Send one feed through a cloud relay
- Create or sign in to the relay account and connect the destination accounts, or enter the receiving platforms’ event details as the service requires.
- In the encoder, select the relay as the streaming service or enter its server URL and stream key.
- Enable the destinations you want to receive the stream. Start the encoder, then confirm that the relay is receiving the feed and that each destination is live.
For an OBS and Restream workflow, Restream’s guide describes connecting the destination channels, choosing Restream as OBS’s streaming service or pasting the relay’s stream key, and then starting the stream in OBS. Its browser Studio is an alternative if you do not need OBS. The guide covers Facebook and YouTube; supported platforms and plan limits can change. Restream setup guide
Check bandwidth and test before the event
When you send separate outputs directly, add the target bitrates together and leave room for connection variation. YouTube Help recommends upload speed of 1.5 to 2 times the combined target bitrate for stability. Its example totals 10 Mbps from two streams (6 Mbps plus 4 Mbps) and recommends 15–20 Mbps upload, particularly on a shared connection. This is YouTube’s setup guidance, not a universal measured threshold. YouTube Help

- Test the actual connection under realistic conditions, using the typical camera movement, audio, and graphics planned for the event. A nominal speed-test result alone may not reflect the live workload.
- Run a private or otherwise low-risk test at every destination, if the platforms and event settings allow it.
- Check that audio is clear and synchronized, video is stable, graphics appear correctly, and the broadcast is visible at every destination.
- During the live event, monitor each platform’s stream-health status. For YouTube, check the Stream health tab in Live Control Room. YouTube Help
Check destination policies and service limits
Twitch simulcasting
Twitch’s Terms of Service section 11 sets conditions for simulcasting: the Twitch audience experience must be no worse than on other services; you must not direct the Twitch community to leave for a concurrent stream elsewhere; and you must not use third-party services to combine activity from other platforms, such as merged chat, on the Twitch stream during the simulcast. Twitch’s Help FAQ distinguishes personal-use tools from content shown on the Twitch stream. Policy wording and any separate agreement can change, so check the current Twitch Terms of Service and Twitch Simulcasting Guidelines FAQ before relying on a specific interpretation.
Relay destination and plan limits
Restream’s guide reports that its free plan supports Facebook profiles and YouTube, allows two channels at once, and requires Standard for Facebook Pages and Groups. These are vendor-reported plan details and may change; confirm the current limits on the Restream guide before choosing a plan.

Cloudflare Stream documents that one live input can simulcast to as many as 50 concurrent destinations, with outputs that can be enabled or disabled during a broadcast. This is a stated capability of Cloudflare Stream, not a general limit for other relays. See Cloudflare Stream’s simulcasting documentation.
Troubleshoot common forwarding problems
- One destination stays offline: check that its event is live or scheduled correctly, the output is enabled, and the ingest URL and stream key are correct. If you rotated a key, update the encoder or relay.
- Video buffers or drops frames on several destinations: with direct outputs, compare the combined target bitrate with available upload capacity and reduce output demand if needed. Retest under realistic conditions; YouTube recommends upload headroom above the combined target.
- The encoder struggles as outputs are added: multiple local outputs can increase encoding workload. Reduce local workload where your encoder allows, or use a relay that receives one feed and distributes it.
- The relay receives a feed but a platform does not: check that the destination is connected, the intended event is selected, and its output is enabled. Review the relay’s status and the destination’s stream-health indicators.
- YouTube live is unavailable: verify channel eligibility and activation. If this is the first activation request, YouTube says enabling live streaming can take at least 24 hours.
- A Twitch simulcast may violate policy: remove calls that direct viewers away from Twitch, do not degrade the Twitch audience experience relative to other platforms, and avoid showing merged activity from other services on the Twitch stream. Check current Twitch terms for the full requirements.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a pre-recorded video that should keep a YouTube channel live 24/7, StreamNeo is a different option from forwarding a camera-based live feed: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live.
