If Facebook Live won’t start, keeps disconnecting, or has no sound, begin with low-risk checks: reconnect to Wi-Fi or try another network, update your browser if you’re on a computer, and check microphone access if viewers can’t hear you. Meta’s available guidance covers general Facebook video playback problems rather than a complete Live-specific checklist, so these are sensible first steps—not guaranteed fixes.
Start with the symptom and where you’re streaming
First note whether the problem affects the broadcast itself, audio, or a particular feature—and whether you’re using a phone app or a computer browser. That helps distinguish a possible network issue from a browser, device, or feature-specific problem.
| What’s wrong | First check | What the guidance establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Live won’t start or keeps disconnecting | Reconnect to Wi-Fi or try another network. If the connection seems slow, restart your router or modem. | Meta suggests these checks for general Facebook video problems; it does not identify them as a verified Live-specific diagnostic sequence. |
| Facebook behaves unexpectedly on a computer | Try an up-to-date Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Microsoft Edge browser. Close the browser and restart the computer. | These are general Facebook video troubleshooting suggestions, not a guarantee that every browser version supports every Live feature identically. |
| Viewers can’t hear you | Check that the intended microphone is selected or enabled and that your browser or device permits Facebook to access it. | Microphone permission is a reasonable general access check. Meta’s available permission guidance concerns voice messages, not a documented Live audio procedure. |
| An effect is missing | Check whether you’re following the app workflow for the effect. | Meta’s effect instructions place that workflow in the Facebook app for iOS or Android; this does not establish requirements for all Live broadcasts. |
If Facebook Live won’t start or keeps disconnecting
- Reconnect to the network. Disconnect and reconnect to Wi-Fi, or try another network if one is available. This is a first-pass check drawn from Meta’s general advice for video problems, not a confirmed Live-specific fix.
- Restart existing network equipment if the connection is slow. Restart the router or modem, then retry. The guidance supports restarting equipment you already have; it does not establish that buying new equipment will resolve a Facebook Live problem.
- Check whether the problem is broader than Facebook. If other sites or apps are also having connection trouble, that points toward a wider network problem. If only Facebook Live is affected, record that distinction for your support report; it does not by itself prove the cause.
If Facebook is behaving unexpectedly in a computer browser
- Update your browser. Meta recommends a current version of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Microsoft Edge for the best Facebook video experience.
- Close the browser, then restart the computer. Reopen Facebook and try again. These are general video troubleshooting steps, not a Live-specific guarantee.
- Keep the environment in your report. Note the browser and device you used, especially if the same action works in a different environment. The available guidance does not establish a definitive browser-compatibility matrix for Facebook Live.
If your Facebook Live has no sound
Check the microphone and its access before changing other settings. Confirm that the microphone you intend to use is enabled, then review the computer or browser’s permissions to see whether Facebook can use it. Permission labels and locations vary by browser and device, so use that environment’s own settings rather than assuming one universal menu path.
This is a practical access check, not an official Live audio-fix sequence: Meta’s available microphone-permission page is about sending voice messages. If access is already allowed and viewers still cannot hear you, include that fact in a problem report instead of assuming the permission was the cause.

If a Facebook Live effect is missing
For an issue specifically involving Live effects, verify that you’re following the documented app workflow. Meta’s effect instructions use the Facebook app on iOS or Android. That feature-specific detail should not be read as a requirement for every way of creating or streaming a Live broadcast.
When the basic checks don’t work
Report the issue through Facebook’s available in-product reporting flow or Help Center. Meta’s general video guidance recommends reporting a problem if its suggested checks do not resolve it. A separate Live troubleshooting help item is referenced, but its detailed instructions are not established here; check Facebook’s current support information for account-specific guidance rather than relying on assumed eligibility rules, error-code meanings, or setup requirements.

Or let it run in the cloud—for YouTube, not Facebook
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live 24/7 from uploaded videos; it does not stream to Facebook or broadcast live from a camera. It won’t troubleshoot a Facebook Live connection, browser, or audio problem. If your separate goal is a continuous YouTube stream from pre-recorded video, the steps are: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops it in the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home; it streams your upload as made up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start the free day.
