If a Streamlabs alert will not upload, appear, save, or play sound, first identify which part is failing. Confirm the right platform and event, save your changes, and test the alert. Then check the matching file, display, or audio settings below, moving on to browser-source refreshes and cache clearing only if simpler checks do not help.

Start with the alert’s settings and a test

Streamlabs alerts can be configured globally or for a specific platform and event. In the Streamlabs dashboard, open the Alert Box settings, select the relevant platform or event, and inspect the image or video, position, message template, sound, font, animations, and duration. If you use a variation, check its settings as well as the default alert.

  1. Choose the platform and event you intend to use, and confirm the event is enabled.
  2. Make the needed change to the alert’s visual or audio settings.
  3. Save before leaving the settings page. Streamlabs’ setup guide warns: “Make sure to press Save Settings in the bottom right before moving to different left-side menu items!”
  4. Use Live Preview or the alert test function to check the result before going live.

You can add the Alert Box in Streamlabs Desktop, use the Streamlabs plugin for OBS, or add the widget as a browser source in OBS or other supported streaming software. Labels and controls can vary by software version, so use the current interface’s equivalent if a label differs.

Streamlabs alert image won’t upload

Check the file type and size

Streamlabs’ customization troubleshooting article, last updated June 14, 2024, lists GIF, JPEG, PNG, WebM, and MP4 for image or video assets, and MP3, Ogg, and WAV for sounds. It states a file-size range of 200 KB to 45 MB. Check the extension and size of the asset against those published limits; do not assume that a differently named file has a supported format.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Try a supported browser or a direct media URL

  • If the gallery or upload controls are missing or rendering incorrectly, try a current version of Chrome or Firefox, as Streamlabs recommends.
  • If a file is too large to upload directly, Streamlabs describes using an external direct file URL. The URL must point to the media file itself; a general sharing page or a link requiring sign-in may not work.
  • For sound, Streamlabs documents three options: enter an audio URL, upload an audio file, or select a sound from the Sounds Library. Save the change and test it.

Streamlabs alert not showing, looking wrong, or getting stuck

Check the selected event, theme, and variation

Confirm that the right platform and event are selected and that the event is enabled. Make sure the intended widget theme is active. If you use variations, check that the relevant variation has complete settings; temporarily disabling variations can help determine whether a condition is selecting an unexpected or incomplete alert. Use Live Preview or a test alert to isolate the result.

Check what can hide or delay an alert

  • Source order: In the streaming software’s source list, move the Alert Box above sources that may cover it.
  • Moderation delay: Check whether an alert is waiting for moderation. Streamlabs says an unlimited moderation delay requires an authorized moderator to accept alerts; an unaccepted alert will not play.
  • Paused alerts: Check whether alerts are paused.
  • Animations and duration: Confirm both show and hide animations have selections, and that the alert duration is not so short that it is hard to see.
  • Custom code: If custom HTML, CSS, or JavaScript is enabled and you did not create or maintain it, disable it temporarily as a diagnostic. Restore only code you intend to use.

If the alert box looks different than the preview

First verify the active theme, platform/event settings, and variation, then test in the streaming software where the alert will be shown. A dashboard preview does not replace checking the actual source and scene. If the displayed browser source appears stale, refresh it; if that does not help, remove and re-add the widget source.

Streamlabs also suggests toggling browser hardware acceleration as a troubleshooting step and restarting the broadcasting software. Treat this as a diagnostic, not a guaranteed fix.

Streamlabs alert sound not working

  1. Check whether the alert is muted in the recent-events control.
  2. Confirm the sound asset or URL is the one you intended, and check its volume in the alert settings.
  3. In the streaming software, review Advanced Audio Settings and the monitoring choice. Ensure alert audio is enabled on a track that the stream or recording actually uses.
  4. In Streamlabs Desktop, check the Alert Box source property called “Route Audio to OBS” where applicable. Its availability and label may differ by software version.
  5. Save the settings and test the sound in the dashboard or broadcasting software.

Repeated alerts, echo, or a stale browser source

If an alert repeats or echoes, check whether extra alert pop-out windows are open. For OBS browser sources, Streamlabs’ echo troubleshooting guide recommends checking “Shutdown when not active” on the browser source in every relevant scene. If the issue continues, recreate the source.

For stale or malfunctioning browser-source content, refresh the source first. If necessary, remove and re-add the widget source. Streamlabs’ broader Alerts/Widget Troubleshooting guide, last updated April 25, 2025, also recommends signing out and back into Streamlabs services, relinking the account if the issue appears account-related, and clearing the broadcasting software’s browser cache.

On Windows, Streamlabs lists this browser-cache directory for OBS/Streamlabs Desktop troubleshooting: %appdata%obs-studioplugin_configobs-browserCache. Close the broadcasting app before clearing its cache. This is a Windows-specific path; do not apply it to macOS.

Streamlabs alert customization not saving

After changing an alert, save before switching to another left-side menu item, then test the saved result. If a customized sound or image fails to appear, recheck the selected platform/event and whether the change was made to a variation rather than the default alert. Streamlabs’ setup guide covers global styling and per-platform/event settings; its quick guide covers customizing images and sounds, adding conditional variations, saving, and testing.

Or let it run in the cloud
