To create a Streamlabs Cloudbot custom command, enable Cloudbot, open Commands → Custom, add a trigger and response, then save and test it in chat. Variables—placeholders such as {channel.name}—can insert changing information into a response. You can also control who may use a command, where replies appear, and how often it can be triggered.
What custom commands and variables do
A custom command connects a trigger, such as !socials, to a response that Cloudbot sends in chat. It can provide a repeatable answer to common questions or direct viewers to useful information.
A variable is a placeholder that Cloudbot replaces with information from chat or the streaming service. For example, a response containing {channel.name} can display the channel name. Variables are not necessarily available in every Cloudbot feature or command section, so check the relevant reference for the place you plan to use one.
How do I create a custom command?
- Enable Cloudbot. In the Streamlabs dashboard, open Cloudbot and turn it on. Cloudbot must be enabled for its commands to respond. The current setup guide describes granting the bot moderator permissions: on Twitch and Kick, it gives
/mod Streamlabs; for YouTube, it directs creators to YouTube Studio’s Community settings to add Streamlabs as a moderator. Platform menus and permission steps can change, so confirm the current instructions for your account. - Open the custom-command controls. Go to Commands → Custom and choose Add Command. You can enter a new command or start from a template.
- Choose a trigger. Enter a name such as
!socials. Commands generally use an exclamation mark and must begin the chat message, according to Streamlabs’ advanced-settings guide. - Write the response. Type what Cloudbot should post when the command is used. To add changing information, insert a supported variable where it belongs.
- Set permissions and reply behavior. Choose which roles can use the command and whether its response should be public in Chat or private by Whisper where available.
- Save and test. With Cloudbot enabled, invoke the trigger in chat. If it does not respond, check the settings and troubleshooting steps below.
How variables and target users work
These are examples from Streamlabs’ tutorials, not a complete or guaranteed current list of supported variables:

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.

{channel.name}inserts the channel name.{touser.name}refers to a user’s name. Depending on the command and any target argument, that may be the person who invoked the command or another named user.{touser.followage}displays how long the relevant user has followed the channel.
Streamlabs’ !followage example shows how a target changes the result: without a target username, the command displays the requester’s follow duration; with a target username, it displays that person’s follow duration. Check whether a token is supported in the specific Cloudbot section where you are using it. The linked variables reference may require a Streamlabs login to view.
Choose the right trigger and reply style
Command or alias
A command such as !followage is a deliberate, recognizable trigger. An alias is another command name that invokes the same response; Streamlabs’ example adds !following as an alias for !followage.

Keyword
A keyword can match text without an exclamation mark or a requirement that it start the message, and it may contain spaces. Because ordinary conversation can contain a keyword, choose a distinctive phrase and test it so it does not trigger unexpectedly.
Chat or Whisper
Chat sends the response publicly. Whisper sends it privately where supported. Streamlabs’ tutorial says Whisper was available only on Twitch when that guide was published; check the current controls for your platform rather than assuming it is available elsewhere.

Set permissions, cooldowns, and costs
Permissions
Permissions determine which chat roles can use a command. Depending on the platform and dashboard controls, you may be able to restrict a command to roles such as regulars, subscribers, moderators, or the streamer. Use the narrowest access that fits the response: a public information command may be open to everyone, while a moderation-related command may need tighter limits.
Global and user cooldowns
- Global cooldown: after someone uses the command, everyone must wait for the configured interval before using it again.
- User cooldown: the person who used it must wait for the configured interval, while other viewers can still use it.
Choose a global cooldown to limit total chat output; use a user cooldown when you want to prevent one person from repeating a command without blocking the rest of chat.

Loyalty-point cost
A command can charge loyalty points. Streamlabs’ tutorial describes configuring costs by role, including different costs for moderators, subscribers, regulars, and other users. If a command appears inactive for one viewer, check whether that person is permitted to use it and can meet its configured cost.

- Cloudbot is silent: confirm it is enabled for the correct platform and has the necessary permission to participate in chat.
- Only one command fails: confirm that the individual command is enabled and that the trigger is typed correctly.
- Some viewers can use it but others cannot: check the command’s role permissions and any loyalty-point cost.
- The command works intermittently: check whether a global or user cooldown is still active.
- A variable does not resolve: verify the spelling and whether the variable is supported in that Cloudbot section.
- YouTube bot or timer behavior differs: Streamlabs’ older troubleshooting article lists conditions such as the stream being public for the bot to join, plus timer interval and minimum-line requirements. That page dates to 2021, so verify these details against current Streamlabs and YouTube instructions before relying on them.
Or let it run in the cloud
Cloudbot is for chat commands; it does not keep a pre-recorded YouTube video live by itself. If you also want a 24/7 YouTube stream of uploaded videos, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay running at home; videos stream as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
