OBS is the better fit if you want to configure a direct encoder connection to LinkedIn Live; Restream is the better fit if you want to connect a scheduled LinkedIn event through a partner workflow. Neither choice bypasses LinkedIn’s eligibility rules or event scheduling: as of June 22, 2026, spontaneous live broadcasts are no longer available. You need a streaming tool, and you must schedule an event first.
OBS vs. Restream for LinkedIn Live
| Decision | OBS custom RTMP/RTMPS | Restream partner workflow |
|---|---|---|
| How it connects | Enter the event’s LinkedIn stream URL and key in OBS. LinkedIn names OBS as an example encoder for custom streaming. LinkedIn Live overview; Custom stream instructions. | Connect your LinkedIn account in Restream Studio, then select an existing scheduled LinkedIn event. LinkedIn’s Restream instructions. |
| Best suited to | Advanced broadcasters and production teams comfortable managing an encoder and event-specific ingest settings. | Broadcasters who prefer a partner workflow based on linking an account and selecting an event. LinkedIn lists Restream among its preferred partners. LinkedIn’s Restream instructions. |
| Event handling | Schedule the event, get its ingest details in LinkedIn Live Studio, and configure OBS for that event. | Schedule the event on LinkedIn, then connect that existing event from Restream Studio. |
| Feature availability | Check that OBS and your chosen workflow support the specific LinkedIn feature you need. | Check Restream’s current product documentation for the behavior you need. LinkedIn says feature availability varies by tool. LinkedIn feature guidance. |
| Simulcasting | LinkedIn says some third-party tools can stream to LinkedIn and another platform; confirm that your exact OBS setup supports the destinations you intend to use. | Confirm Restream’s current destination support and plan terms rather than assuming a particular combination is available. LinkedIn Live FAQ. |
LinkedIn’s documentation describes supported workflows, not comparative tests. It does not establish that either route produces better picture quality, lower latency, or greater reliability.
What you need before either setup
- An eligible LinkedIn profile or Page, with the appropriate access and permissions. LinkedIn’s custom-stream guidance directs broadcasters to check the access criteria for their Page or profile. Custom stream instructions.
- A scheduled LinkedIn Live event. Since June 22, 2026, spontaneous broadcasting is no longer available. LinkedIn says you can schedule even minutes before a short-notice broadcast. LinkedIn Live overview.
- A streaming tool: LinkedIn says it does not offer direct in-LinkedIn streaming. LinkedIn Live overview.
- A stable network and a person or device available to monitor the broadcast and audience interaction.
How to use OBS with LinkedIn Live
- Schedule the LinkedIn event. Create the event on the profile or Page that will host it. Confirm the account is eligible to broadcast and that you have permission to manage the destination.
- Open the event’s ingest details. In LinkedIn Live Studio, go to Manage streams for the scheduled event and copy its Stream URL and Stream Key. Treat the key as private: anyone who has it may be able to send video to that event.
- Enter the details in OBS. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose a custom service if needed, and enter LinkedIn’s Stream URL and Stream Key. Use the event-specific values rather than reusing an old event’s key.
- Set up and check the encoder. Choose the intended video and audio sources, and make sure the output settings match LinkedIn’s current encoder guidance. LinkedIn’s troubleshooting guidance recommends trying the Baseline video profile if a stream fails to process because High or Main profiles can introduce B-frames and timestamp issues. LinkedIn troubleshooting.
- Start the OBS stream and inspect LinkedIn’s preview. Starting the encoder sends the feed to LinkedIn; it does not by itself make the event live to viewers. Check the preview, then use LinkedIn’s Go live control when you are ready to broadcast. Follow the event’s preview window: LinkedIn’s custom-stream instructions describe up to two hours of preparation and preview for verified Pages, and one hour of preparation with a 10-minute preview for unverified profiles and Pages. Custom stream instructions.
- Monitor the live event. Use a second device or browser to watch the event and comments while OBS runs. Assign someone to moderation if possible. LinkedIn says organizers can download the event recording after it ends. LinkedIn Live FAQ.
How to connect Restream to LinkedIn Live
- Schedule the LinkedIn event first. Restream’s documented LinkedIn route connects an existing event; it is not a substitute for creating one.
- Open or create a stream in Restream Studio. Sign in to Restream and open the Studio workflow.
- Enable LinkedIn as a destination. Connect the LinkedIn profile or Page that will host the broadcast and authorize the requested access.
- Select the scheduled event. Choose the existing LinkedIn event, save the connection, and check that the selected destination and event are correct.
- Go live when ready. LinkedIn recommends not initiating the Restream connection more than 10 minutes before the event. Review the Studio preview and start the broadcast when your production is ready. LinkedIn’s Restream instructions.
- Monitor comments and the event. Keep a separate device or browser available for viewing the LinkedIn event and moderating comments.
Scheduling, previews, duration, and captions
Schedule even for a short-notice stream
LinkedIn’s current overview says spontaneous live broadcasting ended June 22, 2026. It also says a broadcaster can schedule minutes ahead for a short-notice stream; this still requires a scheduled event. LinkedIn Live overview.
Use the preview window for the chosen workflow
The preparation and preview windows documented for custom RTMP streams vary by Page or profile verification status. Those limits are specific to LinkedIn’s documented custom-stream workflow and may change. Restream’s partner workflow has its own timing advice: LinkedIn recommends not initiating it more than 10 minutes before the event. Check LinkedIn’s current event guidance before planning a long technical rehearsal.

Troubleshooting LinkedIn Live
| Symptom | What to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| The stream option is unavailable | Profile or Page eligibility, account permissions, and whether the event has been scheduled. | Review eligibility and access criteria for the destination. LinkedIn requires eligibility and an event-based workflow. Custom stream instructions. |
| LinkedIn does not show an incoming preview | Whether the correct event URL and key were entered, the encoder is sending, and network ports allow the connection. | Recheck the event’s ingest details and network configuration; consult LinkedIn’s troubleshooting steps. LinkedIn troubleshooting. |
| The feed arrives but fails to process | Encoder profile and timestamp behavior. | Try the Baseline video profile rather than High or Main, which LinkedIn says can introduce B-frames and timestamp problems. LinkedIn troubleshooting. |
| The event is not connected in Restream | Whether you selected the correct LinkedIn account and an existing scheduled event, and saved the connection. | Reconnect or reselect the event in Restream Studio, then verify it before starting. Interface labels may change; LinkedIn’s documented sequence is account, event, save, then Go Live. LinkedIn’s Restream instructions. |
| Viewers cannot see the event or comments are missed | Whether the LinkedIn event itself is live and whether anyone is monitoring it. | Use a second device or browser to inspect the event and assign a moderator where possible. LinkedIn Live FAQ. |
Which workflow should you choose?
- Choose OBS if you want direct control over an encoder connection and are comfortable handling event-specific stream credentials and settings.
- Choose Restream if connecting a LinkedIn account and selecting a scheduled event in a partner studio better fits your production workflow.
- For either option, verify the exact features and destinations you need, preview before the event, and assign someone to monitor the audience. LinkedIn allows one LinkedIn destination per stream; some third-party tools may also support other destinations, but support depends on the tool. LinkedIn feature guidance; LinkedIn Live FAQ.
