There is no documented universal winner. DocRaptor, PDFShift, and PDFreactor each document ways to use custom fonts when converting HTML to PDF. Choose based on how the service loads or registers your font files, the formats and weights you need, and whether the resulting PDF passes tests with your real documents. For the most control over local font registration, PDFreactor is worth evaluating; for hosted APIs, compare DocRaptor and PDFShift against your exact font assets and deployment requirements.
What determines whether a custom font appears in the PDF?
A CSS declaration such as font-family: "Brand Sans" names a font; it does not make the font available to the renderer. The conversion service must be able to retrieve the font file or have it registered, and the CSS must point to the correct family, weight, and style. If any link in that chain fails, the PDF may use a fallback font instead.
Before choosing a provider, check that it supports your font format and loading method, can access the font in your production environment, and handles the places where you use it—including headers and footers. Test the generated PDF itself: appearance, text selection and search, and embedding behavior matter more than a successful API response.
Which HTML-to-PDF APIs document custom-font support?
| Service | Documented font route | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| DocRaptor | CSS @font-face and web fonts in HTML sent to its API. Its documentation says WOFF 2.0 requires DocRaptor Pipeline 8 or higher. DocRaptor custom-font documentation |
Confirm the pipeline in use, supported formats and weights, access to remote font files, and whether required glyphs render correctly. |
| PDFShift | CSS and @font-face rules, including URL-based font files, can be sent with the request. For fonts in headers or footers, its guide says to include the font declaration or data in that header/footer content as well. PDFShift custom-font guide; header and footer guide |
Check that the service can fetch each resource URL, and test header/footer font handling separately from body text. |
| PDFreactor | PDFreactor 12.7.1 documents TTF, OTF, TTC, OTC, WOFF, and WOFF2, with CSS web fonts, local font directories, and API font configuration. Its REST API documents URL-based font loading and fallback settings. PDFreactor manual; REST API documentation | Determine whether its web service or library/deployment model fits, and check licensing, setup, local resources, runtime needs, and output with your font files. |
These documentation routes establish that each product supports custom-font workflows; they do not establish equivalent rendering fidelity, speed, privacy controls, regional hosting, support, or total cost. No common comparative benchmark is available here, so treat selection as a production compatibility test rather than a performance ranking.

How to choose for your requirements
Choose a hosted API when remote font access works for you
DocRaptor and PDFShift document web-font workflows suited to sending HTML and CSS to a hosted conversion service. This can be a practical fit when the API can retrieve your font assets under your security policy. Verify authentication, network access, current plan limits, and the handling of private assets before committing.
Evaluate PDFreactor when local font control matters
PDFreactor documents local font directories and API configuration in addition to web fonts. That gives it a relevant route to investigate when you need explicit font registration or tighter control over local resources. Whether that control is worth the deployment, runtime, licensing, and setup requirements depends on your environment.

Do not select by a single format checkbox
Format support alone does not prove that your particular font, weight, language coverage, or layout will work. Check all font files and glyphs used in production, plus fallback behavior and any special header/footer templates.
Validate the actual PDF before launch
- List the real font assets. Record each family, file format, weight, style, and the languages or symbols the document requires. Include every variant actually referenced by your CSS.
- Confirm resource access. Determine whether the converter can retrieve each font URL from the production environment. If files are private, establish an approved secure delivery or registration method rather than assuming a public URL will be acceptable.
- Build a representative sample. Use production-like HTML, CSS, assets, and API settings. Include body text, bold and italic styles, headers and footers if used, and representative accented characters, non-Latin text, or symbols.
- Inspect the PDF output. Compare visual layout and glyphs with the intended design. Check text selection and search, and verify font embedding if your workflow requires it. The cited product documentation does not provide a cross-provider comparison for these output properties.
- Check operational fit. Confirm current product version or pipeline, plan limits and pricing, service terms, deployment region, privacy requirements, and font-license rights for conversion or embedding.

ScreenshotNeo is for webpage capture, not a like-for-like HTML-to-PDF API
If your real input is a live webpage and your goal is to capture that page as a PDF, ScreenshotNeo is an alternative to try first: it accepts a URL and returns a screenshot or PDF. It is not a substitute for a service that converts arbitrary HTML and CSS with registered custom-font files; validate your webpage output and font requirements before using it for that workflow.
