To stream live video to social media with AWS Elemental Link, send video from a camera or production source into a Link HD or Link UHD device, then use AWS Elemental MediaLive to ingest and deliver it to a social destination. Link is the hardware ingest device; it does not publish directly to YouTube, Facebook, or Twitch. AWS’s MediaLive workflow wizard lists all three as output choices. See AWS’s Elemental Link overview and workflow wizard documentation.
How the Link-to-social workflow works
The signal path is camera or production source → AWS Elemental Link hardware → AWS Elemental MediaLive input and channel → social destination. Link sends the source video into AWS. MediaLive handles the cloud encoding and delivery workflow. The destination is selected in MediaLive, not on the Link device.
AWS documents YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch as supported output choices in the MediaLive workflow wizard. That list describes the wizard’s options; account access and any destination-specific setup still need to be in place. AWS: About the workflow wizard.
Choose Link HD or Link UHD
Choose according to the resolution of the source you need to ingest. AWS documents both device versions as MediaLive sources that output the same resolution in HEVC. Link UHD also has a documented MediaConnect use case.

| Device | Maximum source resolution | Output as a MediaLive input | Other documented use |
|---|---|---|---|
| AWS Elemental Link HD | HD or lower | Same resolution, HEVC | Not stated by AWS for this comparison |
| AWS Elemental Link UHD | UHD or lower | Same resolution, HEVC | MediaConnect flow; UHD or lower, AVC or HEVC |
These are AWS’s documented capabilities; they do not mean that every social platform accepts every resolution or codec. Confirm the destination’s ingest requirements when configuring the MediaLive output. AWS: HD and UHD Link devices.
Requirements to check before setup
- AWS access: Your AWS user needs IAM permissions to work with the Link input-device interface. If you obtained the device through an AWS reseller, AWS says it must be claimed before use.
- Matching Region: The device and MediaLive input must be in the same AWS Region. For the MediaLive workflow, the device, input, and channel must also line up in that Region.
- Internet connection: Deploy and connect the Link device to the internet. Once online, it automatically connects to MediaLive in its configured AWS account and Region.
- Channel timing: AWS recommends waiting to attach the input to a channel until the Link is powered on, online, and sending video. An idle input or running channel can incur charges.
See AWS’s guidance for using Link as a MediaLive input and Elemental Link setup page.

3. Confirm that Link is sending video
Power on the device, connect the camera or production source, and verify that video reaches MediaLive before attaching the input to a channel. MediaLive can show a content thumbnail when the device is streaming. The input documentation says the device captures a frame approximately every five seconds for thumbnails. This confirms source activity in MediaLive; it does not confirm that a social platform is receiving the finished stream. AWS: Using Elemental Link for a MediaLive input.
4. Attach the input to a channel
When the Link is online and sending video, configure a MediaLive channel to use the Elemental Link input. Keep the device, input, and channel in the same Region. Configure the channel’s output for the social destination you intend to use.

5. Use the workflow wizard for a social destination
In MediaLive, start the workflow wizard, choose Link hardware as the source, and choose the supported destination—Facebook, Twitch, or YouTube. The wizard can provision much of the upstream and downstream setup. AWS says, “The workflow wizard works best when you use it to create these resources, rather than using existing resources.” The wizard does not remove the need to have appropriate destination-account access or satisfy platform-specific permissions. AWS: About the workflow wizard.

Link does not appear online or cannot reach AWS
Use the Link network diagnostics utility. It reports whether the configured IP address is applied, the gateway responds, DNS resolves, AWS is reachable over HTTPS, time synchronization works using NTP port 123, and video packets can be sent to AWS using port 2088. Work through any failing check with your network administrator, then verify that the device reconnects. These checks diagnose the device-to-AWS path; they do not guarantee successful delivery to a social destination. AWS: Deploying the Link hardware.

MediaLive has no video or thumbnail
- Check that the Link device is powered on and has internet access.
- Confirm that the selected MediaLive input points to the intended device.
- Verify that the device, input, and channel are in the same AWS Region.
- Wait for the device to send video, then check the MediaLive input again; thumbnails are captured approximately every five seconds.
The source works but the social destination does not
Separate source ingest from delivery: a Link device sending video to MediaLive does not by itself establish that the destination is receiving the stream. Check the selected MediaLive output and destination configuration, and confirm that the AWS account has the required access to the chosen social account. The workflow wizard’s destination list is not a guarantee that a particular account’s permissions or settings have been configured.
Or let it run in the cloud
This Link-and-MediaLive workflow is for live camera or production video. If your goal instead is to keep a YouTube channel live by looping uploaded recordings, StreamNeo is a separate cloud service: upload a video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams uploaded video as made up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free first day.
