A livestream can create discovery and interest, but views, chat messages, and concurrent viewers are not proof that people visited your website—and no stream guarantees traffic or conversions.
Start with a destination that genuinely helps the viewer
Choose the page before planning the broadcast. It might be a detailed guide, event page, resource, product or service page, or signup page. The connection should be obvious: someone watching should understand why that page is useful after the stream.
Then frame the broadcast around a question, demonstration, or task that the page helps viewers continue. For example, a stream explaining how to prepare for a task can point to a more complete checklist on your site. Avoid sending viewers to a generic homepage when a more specific page answers their next question.
- Make the page relevant to the stream, current, and usable on mobile.
- Give viewers a real reason to visit, such as a related guide or resource—not an unexplained instruction to “check the website.”
- Decide what useful action you want to measure on the site, such as reading a resource or completing a signup.
Give viewers a clear, easy-to-follow next step
Explain the destination in plain language during the broadcast: what it contains and how it extends what you covered. Repeat the direction at a natural point, such as when you answer the question the page addresses. Make the destination easy to find in the stream experience, but check the platform’s current instructions for where and how links can be placed; placement options and rules can change.

Keep the call to action specific and proportionate. A viewer who came for a tutorial may welcome a related checklist; a hard sell unrelated to the stream is more likely to interrupt the experience than help it.
Promote the broadcast where your audience already is
Share the event through channels you already use, such as your site, newsletter, or social accounts. Explain what viewers will learn and when the stream starts. Promotion can help people discover the event, but it does not establish how many will attend or click through to your site.

Afterward, review YouTube Studio’s Live analytics content tab to see discovery sources such as external sources, YouTube Search, suggested videos, and playlists. These reports describe how people found the live content; they do not by themselves show that a viewer then visited your website.
Measure stream discovery separately from website results
Use two sets of measurements, because they answer different questions. YouTube’s live-stream analytics can report stream activity and discovery; your own site analytics are needed to assess referrals and on-site actions. No particular website analytics setup or tracking configuration is established here, so use the reporting available on your site rather than assuming YouTube’s figures represent visits.

Compare discovery source, engaged viewing, website referrals, and the quality of resulting visits when judging an event. A peak audience alone does not show that the stream met its website-traffic goal. There is no established universal benchmark for how much website traffic a particular livestream will generate.
What the audience figures do—and do not—mean
YouTube reported that “On average, over 30% of daily logged-in YouTube viewers watched live content in Q2 2025 alone,” in a September 16, 2025, YouTube Blog post by Aaron Filner, Senior Director, Product Management. That is a platform-wide figure for logged-in viewers during that quarter—not a forecast of an individual channel’s audience, website referrals, or conversions.

More broadly, YouTube’s live analytics describe activity on YouTube and ways viewers discovered the live content. External discovery can include search and embeds on other sites or apps; that still does not establish that viewers followed a link to your own site.

Good framing, clear audio capture, and suitable lighting help viewers follow the broadcast. They are production considerations, not evidence that a stream will generate more website visits. Choose equipment and setup to suit the content and viewing environment rather than treating a hardware purchase as a traffic strategy.

When an on-platform shopping stream is a different fit
Amazon Live is a distinct, advertiser-oriented shopping format, not a general substitute for referring viewers to your own website. Amazon Ads’ “Live Shopping best practices,” updated April 9, 2026, describes Live as a beta available to select advertisers in the US and discusses campaigns and performance measures spanning reach, engagement, and revenue. That availability is limited, and the guidance does not establish that Amazon Live will send visitors to an independent site. If your goal is your own website traffic, choose a stream and destination that support that goal and measure site referrals directly.
