A 403 means a server understood the request and refused it; the status alone does not tell you whether the refusal came from ShrinkTheWeb, a CDN, the image host, or another security layer. Start by recording the response body and headers, then use those clues and relevant logs to identify which layer blocked the request. The checks below are general HTTP and CDN diagnostics—not verified ShrinkTheWeb-specific fixes.
1. Identify which server returned the 403
Save the exact status, response body, and response headers from a failing request. A branded error page or provider-specific headers may point to a CDN or security service; an unbranded response may come from the origin. Neither clue proves the source on its own, so correlate it with the relevant CDN, WAF, firewall, and origin logs. Cloudflare describes several possible sources of 403 responses, including origin permissions and security rules: Cloudflare’s 403 troubleshooting guidance.
- Compare a failing request with a successful one, if available. Note differences in the requested URL, headers, time, and network path.
- Look for an error page or response header that names a CDN or security provider.
- Check security and origin logs for a rule matching the request. The HTTP status by itself cannot identify the responsible layer.
2. Check the image URL and request
Confirm that the image URL is exact, current, and reachable as intended. If the screenshot service requires parameters or credentials, confirm that they are present and valid. ShrinkTheWeb’s current parameter and authentication requirements could not be verified, so check its own account or service guidance rather than guessing a parameter name or URL format.
- Check for a typo, an expired or changed image URL, or a URL that redirects to a different host.
- Review the request actually sent, not only the URL you intended to send. Confirm required parameters and credentials with the service.
- If you control the image origin, check whether the image itself can be fetched under the same relevant access conditions.
3. Review access controls and security rules
A firewall, IP-deny rule, WAF, origin permission, or other security control can reject a request with 403. Inspect the rules and logs at the layer identified in the first step, looking for a block that matches the request. Do not disable protections wholesale; if a rule is responsible, adjust it narrowly for legitimate traffic.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
4. Check hotlink protection and the Referer header
If the URL points to an image host, that host may restrict requests based on the Referer header. Cloudflare’s hotlink protection documentation says it denies requests when the Referer does not include the site’s domain and is not blank: Cloudflare hotlink protection. Compare the failing request’s Referer with the image host’s policy. If you administer that host, configure a suitable exception for intended requests rather than weakening the policy globally.
5. Compare CDN and origin responses where possible
If you control the origin and can test it directly, compare its response with the response delivered through the CDN. A difference can help locate the refusal, though a direct-origin test is not available or appropriate for every service. CloudFront recommends examining WAF or origin logs when diagnosing 403 responses: CloudFront 403 troubleshooting.

6. Confirm ShrinkTheWeb-specific requirements
No current ShrinkTheWeb-specific API documentation or support guidance was located for this issue. The evidence therefore does not establish that a particular key, parameter, account limit, URL format, or service-side condition causes the 403. Verify those details with ShrinkTheWeb before changing a request based on assumptions.
