Use html.to.design to import a competitor’s landing page into Figma as editable layers: paste a public URL in the plugin’s Web tab, choose the import settings, and click Import. For pages that depend on a login or browser session, capture the visible page with the browser extension and send the capture to the plugin or save it as an .h2d file. Treat the result as a reference for analysis and an original redesign—not permission to republish someone else’s copy or creative assets.

Choose the right import route

For a public landing page

  1. Open the target page in the html.to.design Figma plugin and select its Web tab.
  2. Paste the page URL, choose the available import configuration, and click Import. The vendor’s documentation describes this as the public-page workflow: import a website to Figma.
  3. Let the import finish, then inspect the resulting layers in the Figma file.

This is the simplest route when the page can be viewed without a session. An import creates editable Figma layers, but editable does not mean an exact or production-ready reproduction; expect to inspect and clean up the result.

For a page behind login or dependent on browser state

  1. Open the page in your browser and establish the state you need, such as signing in or navigating to the relevant view.
  2. Use the html.to.design browser extension to capture the whole page or a selection.
  3. Send the capture to the Figma plugin, or download it as a local .h2d file and import that file.

The extension captures what is visible in the browser, including pages that require a login or VPN. Its guide explains the capture and local-file options: import private websites to Figma. The guide recommends local download when you want the captured page data not to reach the operator’s servers.

Compare responsive views and page states

A single desktop import can hide important design decisions. Import desktop and mobile versions, and tablet where relevant, then compare how the page changes across widths. The product documents viewport and theme options, along with features such as local styles, optional auto layout, and font mapping; these options do not guarantee that the imported file will match the live page perfectly. See the vendor’s documentation for current import options.

  • Hierarchy: note which headline, proof point, and call to action dominate each viewport.
  • Responsive changes: compare navigation, section order, line breaks, column stacking, and which content is hidden or condensed.
  • Page state: record whether the design depends on a theme, menu state, or other browser-visible interaction. Capture the needed state rather than assuming a static URL import includes it.

Turn the import into a useful design reference

  1. Organize the layers. Inspect the imported hierarchy and rename or group elements so you can navigate the file. Use local styles, optional auto layout, and font mapping where useful.
  2. Annotate the underlying decisions. Record the information hierarchy, section sequence, spacing rhythm, interaction cues, and responsive behavior—not just the visible colors and shapes.
  3. Build a distinct design. Draft new copy and use imagery, illustrations, and logos you own, have licensed, or have permission to use. A reference file is a starting point for analysis, not a shortcut to publishing a clone.

Keep the rights and service terms in view

For U.S. context, the U.S. Copyright Office says original authorship on a website may be protected, including text, artwork, and photographs. Whether a particular reuse qualifies as fair use depends on a case-specific analysis of purpose and character, the nature of the work, the amount and substantiality used, and the effect on the work’s market. There is no fixed percentage or word-count safe harbor. See the Copyright Office’s copyright overview and fair-use guidance. These are U.S.-specific resources, not a determination of rights in every country or of any individual project.

Separately, html.to.design’s terms restrict certain uses of its service, including mass imports by bots or scripts without authorization and distributing or monetizing collections of designs generated through the service. Those service terms do not settle whether you have rights to reuse a third party’s content. Review the current terms of service before automating imports or sharing generated design collections.

Know the import limits before planning a larger review

As listed on html.to.design’s pricing page reviewed October 3, 2026, Free includes up to 10 imports every 30 days. Pro is $12 per user per month billed annually or $18 per user per month billed monthly, with a 1,000-import monthly fair-use limit even though the plan is described as unlimited. These are vendor-listed plan details and can change; check the current pricing page. A single ordinary import does not by itself require Pro.

Or skip the browser setup

For a public page, ScreenshotNeo can return a screenshot with one GET request instead of setting up browser capture. See the ScreenshotNeo website and API documentation.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

Replace YOUR_API_KEY with your key and the example URL with the page you want to capture. ScreenshotNeo can return PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF; it accepts and removes cookie-consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture, with each step optional. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 shots a month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. A screenshot is a visual reference, not an editable Figma import.

Troubleshoot common import problems

The public URL does not show the page state you need

If the page requires an account, VPN, or session state, open it in the browser, establish that state, and capture it with the extension instead of relying on the public-URL route. Choose a whole-page or selection capture as appropriate.

The imported layout differs between desktop and mobile

Import the relevant viewports separately and compare them in Figma. Check line wrapping, navigation, section order, and stacked content; do not infer mobile behavior from a desktop frame.

Fonts or layout need cleanup

Use the documented font-mapping and optional auto-layout features where they help, then inspect the resulting layers and styles manually. The available documentation describes these features but does not establish perfect visual fidelity for every page.

You need a local capture file

Use the browser extension’s download option to save a capture as an .h2d file, then import that file into the plugin. This is the documented local-storage route when you do not want captured page data sent to the operator’s servers.

You are planning many imports

Check the current plan quota and terms before scaling up. The pricing page lists Free and Pro limits, while the terms restrict unauthorized mass imports using bots or scripts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I import a competitor’s landing page directly into Figma?

Yes. html.to.design documents a public-URL import through the plugin’s Web tab and an extension-based capture for browser-visible or login-gated pages. Importing a page does not grant rights to republish its protected content.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does html.to.design guarantee a pixel-perfect copy?

No such guarantee is established in the product documentation. Treat the imported layers as a reference that may need inspection and cleanup.

Can I save an extension capture without sending it to the service?

The extension supports downloading a capture as a local .h2d file; the private-page guide recommends this option when you want captured page data to remain off the operator’s servers.
