If an HTML/CSS to Image screenshot has the wrong dimensions, first set viewport_width and viewport_height together. Those values control the browser’s layout area in CSS pixels; they do not necessarily equal the output file’s pixel dimensions. Check device_scale for a resolution mismatch, and full_screen or cropping settings if the captured area is wrong.
Set the viewport width and height together
The viewport is the visible area of the browser page. In HTML/CSS to Image, viewport_width and viewport_height define that area in CSS pixels. The documentation lists a default viewport of 1920 × 1080 and a maximum viewport width of 6000 pixels. To target a particular layout, send both values explicitly:

}Explicit viewport dimensions disable automatic cropping and return the area rendered inside that viewport. If you provide only one dimension, you are not using the documented method for setting the viewport; include both.
For example, a 1200-pixel-wide viewport can trigger different responsive CSS than a 390-pixel-wide one. Set the width to the breakpoint you want to inspect, then choose a height that shows the relevant content.

Separate CSS layout dimensions from image pixel dimensions
A viewport controls the page’s CSS layout area. The output image can have more pixels than the viewport because HTML/CSS to Image’s FAQ says images render at 2× by default. If the output file is twice the expected width and height in pixels, set device_scale to 1 while keeping the intended viewport dimensions:

}The parameter reference gives device_scale a supported range of 0.1 to 3. Changing this scale affects output resolution, not the CSS viewport or responsive layout. Conversely, use viewport settings—not post-render resizing—when you need the page to render at a different layout size.

Choose the right capture area
Capture only the viewport
For a fixed-size screenshot of the visible browser area, set both viewport dimensions and avoid enabling full-page capture.
Capture the entire scrollable page
full_screen: true captures the full page, so the image can be taller than viewport_height. If the screenshot is unexpectedly tall, check whether this option is enabled.

Capture one element
Use the selector parameter when you want a particular page element rather than the whole viewport. For a small standalone HTML graphic where automatic trimming is desired, the vendor recommends sizing the content in CSS instead of setting explicit viewport dimensions.
Resize the finished image only when that is the goal
The API’s width and height query parameters resize the generated image without changing the viewport or rerendering the page. Use them only when you want a resized output file; they will not correct a responsive layout that rendered at the wrong viewport size.

Use mobile viewport behavior when needed
For a mobile layout, set a mobile-sized width and height, and enable viewport_mobile when you need mobile viewport behavior, including support for the page’s <meta name="viewport"> settings. The dimensions determine the viewport size; viewport_mobile does not choose those dimensions.

- Confirm the request includes both dimensions. Set
viewport_widthandviewport_heighttogether, in CSS pixels. - Decide whether the layout or the file resolution is wrong. Adjust the viewport for the CSS layout; inspect

viewport_mobile: truefor mobile viewport emulation when appropriate. - Look for full-page capture or element cropping. Disable
full_screenfor a viewport-only image. Useselectorfor a specific element. - For a standalone graphic, consider CSS sizing. If automatic trimming is wanted, follow the vendor’s guidance to size the content in CSS rather than forcing explicit viewport dimensions.
- Check rendering readiness if content is missing. Timing options such as
ms_delayandrender_when_readycan address content that has not appeared yet; they do not change viewport geometry.
