If Make reports ModuleTimeoutError while fetching a webpage, the request did not return within that module’s expected time. First identify the failing module, then retry transient delays and investigate recurring failures. Make’s documented recovery is retry handling and incomplete-execution review—not a general setting that lets you raise a webpage module’s timeout.
Identify which timeout you have
Open the failed scenario run and locate the module marked with the warning. Inspect its execution details and input URL to confirm that the webpage-fetching module failed, rather than a later parser or downstream step.
Make’s Help Center says that when an endpoint does not return data, a module may wait up to 40 seconds; most modules have a runtime limit of 40 or 60 seconds. Some module-and-service combinations differ—for example, Make gives Airtable as having a limit of up to 80 seconds. These are Make module limits, not a universal browser timeout. The cited Help Center article is undated and was accessed October 3, 2026. Make’s error and warning guidance describes ModuleTimeoutError as a request that did not receive a response within the expected timeframe.
Retry a transient webpage delay
If the target site is slow only intermittently, configure a Retry error handler for the failing module and enable storage of incomplete executions. Make’s documented Retry directive attempts the same action up to three times, with delays of 5, 10, and 15 minutes in the described setup, then stores a persistent failure under Incomplete Executions. Check the handler in your scenario: retry behavior depends on its actual configuration.

- Open the scenario and add or review the error handler attached to the module that fetches the page.
- Choose the Retry directive and enable incomplete-execution storage for the scenario.
- Run the scenario again and check the failed module’s execution details.
- If a retry still fails, review the stored incomplete execution and decide whether to retry it or investigate the URL and request.
Make also documents automatic retries with exponential backoff for eligible ModuleTimeoutError incomplete executions. Its schedule lists attempts after 1 minute, 10 minutes, 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 30 minutes, 30 minutes, 3 hours, and 3 hours. Eligibility depends on incomplete-execution settings and error-handler configuration; unresolved failures may require manual resolution. Investigate timeouts that keep recurring
Repeated timeouts for the same page are less likely to be fixed by retrying indefinitely. Confirm the URL is reachable and that the page consistently finishes loading. If the module offers controls that apply to your request, try reducing response size or processing demands. If the site provides a supported API for the information you need, consider using it instead of fetching and parsing the full webpage. These are diagnostic options, not documented Make controls for increasing the module timeout.

Use the right fix for a different error

For throttling, Make documents using the Sleep module for delays of up to 300 seconds. Sleep paces requests; the cited guidance does not say that it increases a webpage-fetch module’s timeout. See Make’s rate-limit guidance.
Make’s cited Help Center article gives overall scenario runtime limits of 45 minutes, or 10 minutes on the Free subscription. Those limits concern scenario execution, not an individual webpage request, and the article is undated; figures were accessed October 3, 2026. If you see an overall interruption, apply the workload remedies in the table rather than treating it as a slow-page timeout.

Check these details when a retry does not help
- The wrong module is being retried: Confirm the warning is on the webpage-fetching module, not on a parser or later action.
- The URL or request is consistently slow: Check whether the page responds reliably; where available, reduce response size or use the site’s supported API.
- Retries are not stored: Check incomplete-execution storage and the handler’s live settings. Automatic retry eligibility depends on configuration.
- The error is a 429: Pace requests with a delay rather than treating the problem as a timeout.
- The scenario exceeds its total runtime: Split work across runs, reduce result limits, or batch supported API requests.
