Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallFirst determine whether the audio is out of sync by a steady amount, drifts farther out over time, or jumps at each loop. Those symptoms point to different causes: a fixed offset may involve track start times, accumulating drift calls for a timing or rate investigation, and a repeat-point jump calls for checking stream boundaries and timestamps. There is no safe universal delay value or one-line FFmpeg fix without your command, media metadata, and the shape of the mismatch.
Classify the sync problem before changing anything
Note when the mismatch appears and whether it changes. This pattern is the starting point for choosing what to inspect; it is not, by itself, proof of a particular cause.
- Fixed offset from the beginning: Audio and video may have different start times. Establish which stream leads and measure the offset before considering a correction.
- Increasing drift: Check the audio and video timelines, source timestamps, frame-rate conversion, and output synchronization behavior. A fixed delay will not correct a rate mismatch that keeps changing.
- Jump or reset at each repeat: Inspect the file and timestamps around the loop boundary. A discontinuity there may explain why sync changes at the repeat point.
- Only appears in YouTube playback: Compare local playback with YouTube’s Live preview and stream-health indicators to help distinguish source or encoder behavior from what you observe downstream.
Do not immediately add -itsoffset, an audio delay, or a resampling correction. First establish which stream is early, by how much, and whether that difference stays constant.
Inspect the media’s audio and video timelines
Use ffprobe to inspect the file before editing your command. Record each stream’s codec, start time, duration, audio sample rate, frame rate, and time-base information. Compare the audio and video start times and durations rather than relying only on the container’s overall duration.

YouTube’s upload troubleshooting guidance says audio and video tracks with different durations may not sync correctly and advises editing the tracks so their durations match. That is a useful source-level check, not proof that every live-loop sync problem comes from unequal track lengths.
Listen or inspect the recording near its beginning and immediately around the repeat point. A problem that starts or changes at the boundary deserves a different investigation from drift that accumulates continuously.
Check FFmpeg’s loop, mapping, and timestamp behavior
Review the exact command you run, including where each option appears. FFmpeg documents -stream_loop as an input option, so confirm it applies to the intended input and appears before that input. Then verify that your stream mapping sends the intended audio and video streams to the output. Mapping can affect which stream’s timestamps are used for synchronization.

Do not treat -stream_loop -1 as a general-purpose sync fix: it repeats input, but does not establish that the audio and video timelines match.

Check the output frame synchronization mode against the source and the delivery you need. FFmpeg documents these -fps_mode modes:
passthroughpreserves demuxer timestamps.cfrduplicates or drops frames to achieve a requested constant frame rate.vfrpasses timestamps or drops frames to avoid duplicate timestamps.autoselects a mode based on the muxer’s capabilities.
These modes affect video timing; adding one blindly is not an audio-delay correction. FFmpeg also notes that the muxer may further modify timestamps. Its documentation describes an approach in which one stream remains unchanged and the other stream or streams are synchronized to it, but you must determine which stream should be the reference for your case.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Current FFmpeg documentation marks the legacy -vsync option as deprecated. Check the documentation matching your installed build before changing synchronization options.
Observe local playback, then compare it with YouTube
Where useful, play the source with FFplay and enable -stats. FFplay’s statistics include current position and audio/video synchronization drift, which can help you observe whether the mismatch changes during playback. This is a local diagnostic, not a guarantee that YouTube’s live ingest will behave identically. FFplay’s master-clock selection is documented mainly as a debugging option.
Compare what you observe locally with YouTube’s Live preview and stream-health indicators. If the local playback is synchronized but the YouTube preview is not, keep investigating the stream and delivery path rather than assuming that a source-file adjustment is the answer.

Verify the YouTube encoder and connection settings
YouTube’s current general encoder guidance lists RTMP or RTMPS, AAC or MP3 audio, and constant bitrate (CBR). It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Its advanced recommendations specify 44.1 kHz for stereo audio and 48 kHz for 5.1 audio; the corresponding recommended audio bitrates are 128 kbps for stereo and 384 kbps for 5.1. These are encoder recommendations, not a diagnosis of sync drift.
Test with representative audio and video before going live, then monitor stream health. YouTube’s live-stream setup instructions tell you to enter the stream URL and stream key in the encoder. Treat the stream key as a credential that lets YouTube accept your feed; do not share it publicly. YouTube also says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, an operational detail that does not fix sync.
YouTube recommends RTMPS, the encrypted extension of RTMP. If connection diagnostics point to a transport problem, check YouTube’s RTMPS troubleshooting guidance for the correct server URL, encoder support, and port 443 where an SSL connection requires it. Do not switch protocols as a sync remedy unless your connection diagnostics indicate a transport issue.

Work through the diagnosis in order
- Preserve the current setup. Save the command and note the installed FFmpeg version so you can undo a change and consult matching documentation.
- Classify the mismatch. Record whether it is fixed, grows over time, or returns at each loop boundary.
- Inspect stream metadata. Compare audio and video start times, durations, sample rate, frame rate, and timestamp or time-base information.
- Review the command. Check
-stream_loopplacement, stream mapping, and timestamp and frame-sync options for the installed version. - Compare observations. Use FFplay statistics where useful, then check the YouTube Live preview and stream-health indicators.
- Test deliberately. Confirm encoder settings, use representative audio and video, and change one timing or encoding variable at a time.
- Correct only what the evidence supports. Apply a measured offset only when the offset is stable. If it changes, investigate timing or rate behavior instead of choosing a fixed delay.
A precise correction depends on details not included in the symptom alone: the FFmpeg command and version, media metadata, which stream leads, the offset’s size, and whether it grows or changes at the repeat. Without those, prescribing a particular delay or sync mode would be guesswork.
Common troubleshooting outcomes
| What you observe | What to check next | What not to assume |
|---|---|---|
| The offset is present from the start and stays about the same. | Compare audio and video start times and measure which stream leads. | Do not choose a delay value before measuring the offset. |
| The mismatch steadily grows. | Check durations, sample and frame timing, timestamps, frame-rate conversion, and output sync behavior. | A fixed offset will not correct continuing drift. |
| Sync changes or jumps at each repeat. | Inspect audio and video continuity and timestamps around the loop boundary. | Do not assume that looping itself corrects the boundary. |
| Local playback and YouTube preview differ. | Compare local FFplay observations with YouTube’s preview and stream-health indicators; verify the encoder settings. | Do not assume the source file alone is responsible. |
| The stream will not connect or connection diagnostics show transport errors. | Check the server URL, RTMPS support, and relevant connection requirements in YouTube’s guidance. | Do not change transport protocol solely to address an audio timing symptom. |
