Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor a React app built with Vite, use Playwright Test’s expect(page).toHaveScreenshot() to compare a rendered page with a committed visual baseline. To test an individual React component without capturing surrounding page content, use Playwright’s component testing support and assert on the mounted component’s root locator. Keep the browser and operating-system environment consistent between baseline creation and CI, and review image diffs before updating snapshots.
Choose page testing or component testing
Use the test boundary that matches what you want to protect:
- Page-level visual regression: Run the app in a browser and call
toHaveScreenshot()on the page. This captures the rendered page, so it can catch layout and integration changes across the route. - Component-level visual regression: Use Playwright component testing to mount a React component, then compare the screenshot of its root locator. This keeps unrelated gallery or page content out of the comparison.
Playwright’s component-testing guide documents React support and describes using an existing Vite development server for the component gallery. See the Playwright component testing guide for setup details for your installed version.
Set up a page screenshot test
Install Playwright Test in the project if it is not already installed, then use the project’s existing Playwright configuration and browser installation. The example below assumes a configured test runner and a route at /; adjust the route and readiness condition to match your app.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Wait for a meaningful page state. Prefer a visible, stable app element over an arbitrary short delay.
- Capture the page. The first run creates a reference image if one does not exist; inspect and commit that baseline.
- Run the test again. Later runs compare the rendered image with the stored reference and report visual differences.
Example Playwright Test:
import { test, expect } from '@playwright/test';
test('home page matches its visual baseline', async ({ page }) => {
await page.goto('/');
await expect(page.getByRole('heading', { name: 'Welcome' })).toBeVisible();
await expect(page).toHaveScreenshot('home.png');
});
The exact application heading is illustrative; use a locator that reflects real content in your app. The screenshot assertion waits for two consecutive screenshots to match before it compares the final image, which helps avoid capturing while the page is still settling. The assertion behavior and options are documented in the PageAssertions API.
Test a React component in a Vite project
Component tests are useful when you want to validate a component’s appearance independently of a full route. Configure Playwright component testing for React following its guide, then mount the component and assert on the returned root locator:

});
This illustrates the test shape; confirm the import path and setup against the component-testing package and configuration used by your installed Playwright version. The component guide covers mounting and the Vite gallery server.
Make screenshots deterministic
A visual baseline is meaningful only when the inputs and rendering conditions are stable. Start by eliminating avoidable variation rather than increasing tolerance.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Control application data: Use predictable test fixtures and deterministic network responses. Avoid live content that changes between runs.
- Wait for the state you intend to test: Wait for a meaningful selector or completed interaction before capturing. Avoid relying on a fixed delay unless the delay itself is relevant.
- Handle time and randomness: Freeze or control clocks and random values if they affect visible output.
- Reduce animation and transitions: Screenshot assertions disable animations by default. If custom behavior still changes the image, use the documented assertion options or a screenshot stylesheet.
- Isolate volatile regions: Mask genuinely variable content or inject CSS to hide or normalize it. Do not mask the part of the interface whose appearance the test is meant to verify.
- Align environments: Use the same browser version, operating system, relevant settings, and headless behavior when generating and checking baselines. Host OS, browser version, hardware, power source, and headless mode can affect output.
Playwright documents screenshot controls including CSS and device scale, animation handling, and ways to manage dynamic content in the PageAssertions API.
Choose comparison tolerances carefully
Playwright supports options such as a maximum differing pixel count or ratio and a perceived-color threshold. These can accommodate small rendering differences, but a looser threshold can also allow real visual regressions through. Stabilize data and rendering first; use a tolerance only when the remaining difference is understood and acceptable.

Check the available settings and their behavior in the SnapshotAssertions API. Option details can vary by installed Playwright version, so use the documentation corresponding to the version in your project.
Run baselines consistently in CI
Generate and compare baselines in a standardized environment. A screenshot mismatch in CI may reflect a real UI change, but it can also come from a browser or operating-system rendering difference. Keep the runtime and browser version aligned between local baseline updates and CI, or generate and approve snapshots in the same CI environment used for verification.

Commit approved reference images with the test code so changes are visible in code review. Treat a baseline update as an intentional change to expected UI—not a way to silence a failed test.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Inspect and update a failing snapshot
- Open the diff. Compare the expected image, actual image, and highlighted difference.
- Check the test state. Confirm that the route, data, network responses, and loading state are the ones the test is meant to capture.
- Check the runtime. Compare browser and operating-system environments, and look for rendering drift.
- Decide whether the UI change is intended. If it is, update the baseline and review the resulting image before committing it. If it is not, fix the app or the test’s nondeterministic inputs.
Playwright UI Mode and Trace Viewer can help diagnose failures. Trace Viewer provides screenshot film strips, action snapshots, logs, and source locations alongside the recorded test actions; see the Trace Viewer guide.
Common failures and fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The first run reports a missing snapshot. | No reference image exists yet. | Review the generated image as the intended baseline, then add it to version control. |
| CI fails but a local run passes. | Browser, OS, settings, hardware, or headless rendering differs. | Standardize the screenshot environment and regenerate or verify baselines there. |
| The screenshot captures a loading or partial state. | The test proceeded before meaningful content was ready. | Wait for a stable, app-specific locator or state before the screenshot assertion. |
| The diff changes on repeated runs. | Visible data, time, randomness, animation, or an external response is nondeterministic. | Control test data and network behavior, stabilize time and randomness, and mask or normalize only genuinely volatile regions. |
| A baseline update hides an unexpected regression. | The expected image was refreshed without reviewing the change. | Inspect expected, actual, and diff images first; update only when the visual change is intended. |
| A tolerance change makes failures disappear. | The threshold may now permit real visual changes. | Return to deterministic inputs and use the narrowest threshold that matches an explicitly acceptable rendering difference. |

If you need an image from a URL rather than an assertion against your React app’s committed baseline, ScreenshotNeo offers a one-request screenshot API. It accepts a URL and returns PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF output; this does not replace Playwright’s visual-regression comparison workflow.
cURL:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie/consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, with response headers indicating the page verdict and billing status. It also has an MCP server with screenshot, page-info, and PDF-capture tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.
