If BrowserStack Screenshots cannot open a URL, first check the address and whether the site is public or protected. BrowserStack documents URL-based credentials for HTTP Basic Authentication, but that does not establish support for ordinary website logins. Also distinguish a failed page load from a job marked “Timed Out” or a screenshot that loaded but looks incomplete.
Check the URL and how the site is protected
Start with the exact URL submitted to BrowserStack Screenshots. Check that the hostname and path are correct and that the address begins with the intended https:// or http://. This is basic troubleshooting; BrowserStack’s specific URL-format guidance concerns Basic Authentication.
For HTTP Basic Authentication
BrowserStack documents credentials in the URL in this form: https://username:password@URL. Its guidance says to check the URL entered when Basic Authentication is not working. See BrowserStack’s Screenshots FAQs and its Basic Authentication guidance.
Treat credentials as sensitive: do not post a real password in a public support forum or share a job URL that exposes it. If you need help, provide the URL with credentials removed.

For other kinds of login
BrowserStack’s FAQ identifies Basic HTTP Authentication as the supported protected-page case. That does not mean a URL containing a username and password can sign in to an ordinary application, restore a session, use a session cookie, or complete a multi-step login. If the page requires one of those methods, the cited Screenshots guidance does not establish that the hosted URL workflow can access it.
Identify what failed
Use the result shown by the job to separate three different problems. A URL that cannot be opened, a job explicitly marked “Timed Out,” and a page that opens but produces an incomplete image are not interchangeable diagnoses.

- The page does not open: Recheck the URL and whether the destination is public or uses Basic Authentication. For another login type, do not assume URL credentials will work.
- The result says “Timed Out”: BrowserStack lists “What does ‘Timed Out’ mean?” in its Screenshots troubleshooting material. Consult the current official answer for this branch; the available guidance does not establish a precise timeout definition, threshold, cause, or remedy. Open BrowserStack’s current Screenshots FAQs.
- The page opens but the image is partial or repetitive: Investigate browser-specific capture behavior rather than treating it as a URL-loading failure.
Check browser-specific capture limits
BrowserStack’s FAQ says full-page screenshots are unavailable for Opera and Safari 5.1, and its support material discusses repeated elements in some capture results. These are capture limitations, not proof that the URL failed to load. Keep adjacent BrowserStack products separate
Instructions for Percy visual snapshots and Bug Capture address different workflows. Percy troubleshooting about CI snapshots, allowed hosts, network idle, assets, or DOM rendering is not established as a fix for the hosted Screenshots URL form. Escalate with details that help support
If a correctly formatted, publicly reachable URL still fails after you have checked the relevant official timeout guidance, contact BrowserStack Support. Include the exact error text and enough context to distinguish loading from capture:
- The URL with any username and password removed.
- The selected browser and device.
- Whether the destination is public, Basic Authentication protected, or requires another sign-in method.
- Whether the page never opens, the job reports a timeout, or the resulting image is incomplete or repetitive.
