Short answer: Streamlabs Network Boost is designed to make mobile and IRL streams more reliable by using multiple internet connections. It may help reduce interruptions or network-related dropped frames when a connection weakens, but Streamlabs’ published descriptions do not establish that it improves resolution, encoder quality, or image sharpness. No independent benchmark or quantified improvement is provided in the cited materials.
What Network Boost does
Streamlabs describes Network Boost as a Streamlabs Mobile feature that uses multiple available internet connections, such as Wi-Fi and cellular data, to support a mobile stream as conditions change. Its intended benefit is continuity: keeping a stream going when one connection becomes unreliable, which may reduce network-related interruptions or dropped frames. That is Streamlabs’ stated purpose, not a tested guarantee. Streamlabs’ setup guide and its Network Boost product description explain the feature.
In a common configuration, the primary device streams while a second device acts as a relay or provides a hotspot. More advanced configurations involving a router or three or more devices or connections are managed through Streamlabs Controller. The exact setup depends on the devices and connections you have.
Reliability is not the same as picture quality
“Quality” can mean whether a stream stays live or how good its image looks. Network Boost is described in terms of connection reliability, interruptions, and dropped frames. The available Streamlabs descriptions do not show that it increases resolution, improves the encoder, adds image detail, or makes video sharper when the existing connection is already stable.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If your concern is a soft or blocky picture, investigate resolution, bitrate, encoder settings, and device performance separately. A network feature aimed at continuity is not evidence of an image-fidelity upgrade. Streamlabs also offers a distinct desktop feature called Dynamic Bitrate: according to its support guide, it can lower bitrate when network problems cause dropped frames and move back toward the selected target as conditions recover. Dynamic Bitrate is not the same feature or mechanism as mobile Network Boost.
Who may benefit—and what must be in place
Network Boost is most relevant if you stream from a mobile device or while IRL and your primary connection fluctuates. It is less likely to address a problem caused by encoding load, an unsuitable resolution or bitrate, or another non-network issue.

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- More than one usable connection: Streamlabs lists access to multiple internet connections as a prerequisite. The additional path needs to be available and usable where you stream.
- Subscription: Streamlabs lists an active Streamlabs Ultra or Ultra+ subscription as a requirement.
- Primary device: At launch, Streamlabs said the primary streaming device must be iOS; a secondary device may be iOS or Android. These platform requirements can change, so check the current setup guide before relying on a particular device.
- Relay device or hotspot: Some configurations use a second device as a relay, and it can host a hotspot. Streamlabs says dedicated IRL backpacks, encoders, routers, or bonding hardware are not required. A portable hotspot is one optional way to provide another connection, not a mandatory purchase.
These requirements and setup details come from Streamlabs Support; confirm current eligibility and instructions in the app because product requirements may change.
How to tell whether it helps your stream
The feature description alone cannot show whether Network Boost will improve results in your location. Streamlabs’ troubleshooting guidance identifies network problems as a common source of dropped frames or disconnections and cautions that a speed-test upload result by itself does not prove that a connection is stable. First identify whether the problem is actually network-related; Streamlabs’ dropped-frames and stream-quality guide discusses distinguishing network trouble from CPU or GPU issues.

If you want to evaluate Network Boost yourself, compare otherwise similar streams with the feature off and on in the same location and a similar time window. Record connection changes, network-dropped frames, interruptions, stream bitrate, and viewer playback. Note the devices, subscription tier, platform, and network conditions so that differences are interpretable. This is a suggested evaluation method, not a reported test result.
What the published evidence establishes
The available materials are Streamlabs product and support pages. They document the intended benefit and setup, but do not provide an independent controlled comparison or a measured effect size. They establish no verified percentage reduction in dropped frames or disconnections, and no benchmark showing that viewers see better image quality. A quantified claim would require a separately documented test or independent study.
