To transfer your own YouTube channel’s video library to a VPS, export it with Google Takeout, download and inspect every archive part on a computer or other staging storage, then copy the extracted files to the server using a secure method such as rsync over SSH. Google does not offer a direct Takeout export to an arbitrary VPS. Use YouTube Studio instead only when you need a few individual uploads and its available download quality is sufficient.
Choose the right way to export your videos

If you need the camera/source master, preserve that file separately: a YouTube export should not be assumed to reproduce the original recording exactly.
How do I transfer my YouTube videos to a VPS?
- Confirm the Google Account and channel. Sign in to the Google Account associated with the uploads. If the channel uses a Brand Account, switch to the Brand Account that owns them. For a work or school account, check with the Workspace administrator if export options are unavailable; administrators can restrict exports. These account checks are described in Google Account Help.
- Start a Takeout export. Open Google Takeout, select YouTube data, and create the export. Choose an archive size appropriate for your storage and connection. Google says the 50 GB option may reduce file splitting; it does not guarantee one archive.
- Download every archive part promptly. Wait for Google’s export email and use its download links. Google says archives expire after about seven days and each archive can be downloaded up to five times. Save all parts to a computer or storage device with enough free space before extracting.
- Extract and inventory the files. Unpack the archive and check the folders and video files against the channel’s expected uploads. Treat this as your own practical reconciliation: Google does not promise a complete channel reconciliation report in the cited Takeout instructions. Keep the archive parts until the transfer is verified.
- Check the VPS before copying. Compare the extracted library’s total size with the VPS’s available persistent disk, included transfer allowance, and current network terms. If the library will not fit, add or mount storage first. VPS capacity, region, pricing, and network limits vary by provider and plan; confirm them at purchase time, especially for an India-region server.
- Transfer over an authenticated secure connection. If your VPS supports SSH and rsync, copy from the staging computer with rsync over SSH. Otherwise, use the provider’s supported secure file-transfer method. Google documents rsync for copying files to Linux virtual machines, not as a one-click Takeout-to-third-party-VPS feature: Google Cloud documentation. Use the host and login details supplied by your VPS provider; do not expose passwords or private keys in a public script or command history.
- Verify the server copy before cleanup. Compare file counts and sizes, and open representative videos on the VPS. Retain the source archive or original masters until those checks pass. A VPS copy by itself is not an independent backup, so keep another copy in a separate safe location.
Can I use Google Takeout to move my YouTube videos?
Yes, as the official bulk export step for videos uploaded by the account owner. Takeout creates archives for you to download; you then move the extracted files to the VPS separately. Google’s export documentation also describes other destination choices, but does not establish a direct export to an arbitrary VPS. Plan for the intermediate download and upload, including enough local or external staging storage for the archive and extracted files.
How do I download all videos from my YouTube channel?
Use Takeout rather than downloading videos one by one in Studio when you need a whole-library export. After export, check that you selected the Google Account and channel associated with the uploads, including the relevant Brand Account if applicable, then inspect the downloaded folders and compare their contents with your own channel inventory. If you only need a few videos, Studio can be simpler, but its downloads are limited to the listed 720p or 360p MP4 quality.

How do I get videos from a Brand Account?
Use the Google Account that manages the Brand Account and confirm that you have switched to the Brand Account used for the uploads before starting or assessing the export. If expected videos are missing, verify which account and channel actually own them. For Google Workspace accounts, ask the administrator whether export is restricted. Do not assume a missing file means the VPS transfer caused the omission; first check the Takeout archive itself.
Legal and account boundaries
This workflow is for videos you uploaded and are entitled to export. YouTube’s terms restrict downloading or otherwise using Service content except where the Service authorizes it or the necessary permissions have been obtained: YouTube Terms of Service. YouTube Help also states, “You can’t download other users’ YouTube videos.” YouTube Help.

Do not treat scraping or an API client as a workaround. YouTube’s API developer policies prohibit API clients from downloading, importing, backing up, caching, or storing audiovisual content without YouTube’s prior written approval: YouTube API Services Developer Policies.
India-specific VPS considerations
The export procedure is not different for India in the cited Google guidance. India matters when choosing the VPS: confirm the server region, persistent disk, transfer quota, backup or snapshot terms, and total cost with the provider before buying. The right plan depends on your archive size and how often you expect to move files; there is no single VPS capacity or price that can be recommended without those details.

Troubleshooting a missing or incomplete transfer
- Takeout does not show the expected videos: confirm the signed-in Google Account and switch to the relevant Brand Account. Check whether a Workspace administrator limits exports.
- The export is split across several files: download every part, then extract the complete set. Choosing a 50 GB archive limit may reduce splitting but does not ensure a single file.
- A download link no longer works: Takeout archives expire after about seven days. Create a new export if needed, and download the parts while the links are available.
- The VPS runs out of disk space: stop before copying the full library, check extracted size against available persistent storage, and add or mount capacity before resuming.
- Files appear to be missing after transfer: compare the staged inventory with the server’s file counts and sizes, then re-copy missing files. Keep the source archive until representative files have been opened successfully on the VPS.
- The server does not accept rsync: use another secure transfer method supported by the provider. A generic VPS is not guaranteed to support the Google Cloud instructions for Linux VMs.
