Choose ScreenshotNeo first if you want a screenshot-focused API with clean captures, clear billing signals, and a free monthly allowance. Between the two services in this comparison, choose Browserless when screenshots belong to a wider Puppeteer or Playwright automation workflow, or you need persistent browser sessions or a self-hosting option. Choose ScreenshotOne when a managed, screenshot-first service and its documented quotas, storage, webhooks, caching, and output options fit your production workload. Neither is a universal winner: test your own pages and compare the full cost and results.

How Browserless and ScreenshotOne differ

The main difference is workflow. Browserless offers a stateless REST endpoint for one-off browser tasks and a separate Browser-as-a-Service route for teams bringing Puppeteer or Playwright code and persistent sessions. ScreenshotOne is positioned around managed screenshot workflows, with screenshot quotas and production-oriented options such as storage and webhooks.

Both can capture web pages, but their billing units differ. ScreenshotOne plans are based on monthly screenshot quotas. A Browserless provider comparison dated September 18, 2026 describes usage in units of up to 30 seconds of browser time. A unit is not the same thing as a screenshot: a slow page or longer browser task can change how many units it consumes. The Browserless figures below are provider-reported and dated; confirm current terms on its plan page before buying.

What Browserless is good at

One-off screenshot requests

Browserless’s REST /screenshot endpoint accepts either a URL or raw HTML and returns PNG, JPEG, or WebP. Documented controls include full-page capture, viewport and clipping settings, selector-based capture, waits, request filtering, and error handling. Its guidance for lazy-loaded content describes scrolling before capture. Consult the current endpoint documentation for the request schema and supported parameters.

Extending into browser automation

If your application needs more than a single capture—for example, navigation across several pages or an existing Puppeteer or Playwright script—Browserless’s BaaS v2 is the more relevant path than a stateless screenshot call. Browserless describes its REST APIs as one-task HTTP endpoints and BaaS v2 as suited to existing browser code and persistent sessions. It also documents cloud and Docker self-hosting, which may matter when deployment or data-control requirements shape the choice. See the Browserless API overview and its provider-authored comparison for these distinctions.

Known capture risks

Browserless warns that a target site’s automation protections can produce a blank image, CAPTCHA, access-denied content, or missing elements. Its separate unblock route is intended for certain bot-detection situations; the documentation does not establish that it succeeds against every site’s protections. Treat access as a property to test for each permitted target, not as a guaranteed feature of either provider. See Browserless’s screenshot guidance.

How to choose for your workload

Choose Browserless when browser control matters more than a screenshot quota

  • Your screenshot feature is part of an existing or planned Puppeteer or Playwright system.
  • You need multi-step browser work or persistent sessions rather than one isolated capture.
  • You want to evaluate a self-hosted deployment alongside cloud use.

Choose ScreenshotOne when managed screenshot operations are the center of the job

  • You can estimate usage in screenshots per month and its published plan tiers align with that volume.
  • You need options such as S3 upload, webhooks, caching, signed links, PDF output, or listed integrations.
  • Your work specifically benefits from higher-tier features such as IP location selection, scrolling screenshots, video generation, or GPU rendering.

ScreenshotOne’s comparison is written by its founder, who discloses that interest; treat its positioning as the vendor’s perspective, not as independent head-to-head testing. It recommends testing difficult URLs rather than relying on a universal ranking. See ScreenshotOne’s comparison.

Check whether local browser automation is enough

For a small, low-volume script, first decide whether running Puppeteer or Playwright yourself is adequate. A managed service can remove browser infrastructure work, but self-running shifts responsibility for browser servers, queues, retries, updates, and failures to your team. That trade-off is especially important if you do not need hosted concurrency or production workflow features.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Run a fair evaluation before committing

Provider comparisons recommend trying the same representative, permitted pages on each candidate. The available sources do not report a completed independent head-to-head test, so use your own results rather than assuming one service renders better.

  1. Choose representative targets. Include your longest page, a JavaScript-heavy page, a page with a consent banner, and pages that require authentication or a particular location if those are part of your use case.
  2. Hold capture conditions steady. Use the same target state, viewport, output format, and capture timing wherever each API permits. Record any provider-specific settings needed to make a page render correctly.
  3. Compare the output. Check whether the expected content appears, whether lazy-loaded sections are present, and whether the image or PDF is usable for your downstream task.
  4. Record operational behavior. Measure your own latency, rate-limit responses, errors, retries, and the effort required to diagnose failures. Do not assume a timeout or blocked page is a successful capture.
  5. Model the bill at expected volume. For ScreenshotOne, include quota and any extra-screenshot charges. For Browserless, estimate browser-time units rather than treating each request as one unit, and verify current pricing and overage terms.
  6. Repeat with realistic concurrency. Check your expected burst rate against the published limit or account terms and observe how retries affect workload and spend.

This method follows the testing recommendation in ScreenshotOne’s vendor-authored comparison; it is a procedure for your evaluation, not a claim that these services were tested here.

Performance, reliability, and cost considerations

Rendering time depends on the page and capture conditions

JavaScript execution, page weight, lazy-loaded media, selected wait conditions, and browser time all affect the work needed for a capture. A fixed request count therefore does not describe total runtime or cost equally across services. For Browserless, the cited September 2026 comparison’s unit is up to 30 seconds of browser time, not a guaranteed screenshot. For ScreenshotOne, quotas are screenshot-based, but the pricing page’s success and caching caveats still matter.

Plan for failures and retries

Distinguish a valid capture from an error page, CAPTCHA, blank result, or missing content. Decide which failures should be retried, how many times, and whether retries can add cost or count against rate limits under the current terms. Keep failed and successful outcomes visible in your own job logs. Neither provider’s cited material supports promising that every protected or unstable target will be capturable.

Keep cost comparisons workload-specific

Browserless’s provider-reported entry figure—$25/month billed annually for 20,000 units, with overage listed at $0.002 per unit—was in an article dated September 18, 2026, which says it checked prices August 6, 2026. Verify the current Browserless pricing page before relying on it. ScreenshotOne’s prices and quota details are listed above from its official pricing page. Because one service describes browser-time units and the other screenshot quotas, calculate costs from representative measured jobs and expected volume rather than dividing one plan price by an assumed equivalent unit.

Or skip the browser setup

If your requirement is a clean screenshot from one request, ScreenshotNeo is the alternative to try first: it accepts a URL and returns an image or PDF, and its response identifies page verdict and billing status. For example, this cURL request saves a WebP capture of Stripe:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for setup and options. Before capture, it accepts the cookie or consent banner like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing. Its MCP server gives AI agents a way to take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up free for ScreenshotNeo.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Browserless or ScreenshotOne guarantee they can capture a bot-protected site?

No. Browserless documentation warns that protections can lead to blank captures, CAPTCHA pages, access-denied content, or missing elements; its unblock route is described for certain cases, not as universal access. Test only pages you are permitted to capture.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is Browserless’s published unit equivalent to one screenshot?

No. The cited Browserless provider comparison describes a unit as up to 30 seconds of browser time, so it cannot be directly equated with ScreenshotOne’s screenshot quota.

Are the Browserless and ScreenshotOne prices independently benchmarked?

No. The cited figures are provider-published terms, and the comparison sources are vendor-authored. Check each provider’s current official pricing before purchasing.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
