The right choice depends on your code, deployment policy, workload, and measured results from the region where your job will run. Available product information does not establish which service is fastest or cheapest for Indian workloads.
Which kind of Browserless replacement do you need?
Start with the control surface your code actually uses. Puppeteer can control a remote browser over a WebSocket/CDP connection, which suits scripts that navigate, branch on page state, interact with controls, and perform several actions in one session. A task-specific HTTP endpoint may be simpler for one screenshot, PDF, or extraction, but it is not automatically a replacement for a Puppeteer-controlled browser.
- Keep Puppeteer: compare managed CDP browser services and verify that your script’s specific methods and launch behavior work.
- Change the task interface: consider REST or GraphQL only if your workload can be expressed as a single browser task rather than an interactive script.
- Own the infrastructure: consider self-hosting if deployment control is a requirement and you can operate the browser service yourself.
Browserless documents BaaS WebSocket sessions for Puppeteer or Playwright, separate REST and GraphQL workflows, and cloud or Docker self-hosted deployment. Its overview is at Browserless, with connection details in its documentation.

|---|---|---|---|
| Browserbase | Connect Puppeteer through Chrome DevTools Protocol (CDP). | Cloud-first; lists North America and Europe. Asia-Pacific is available on request for enterprise customers. Describes VPC connectivity and private cloud options, but says it does not offer on-prem deployment. | Custom proxy configurations, session recording, and observability. |
| BrowserCat | Managed endpoint for Puppeteer or another CDP client. | Managed cloud service; describes global edge infrastructure but does not name an Indian region on the cited page. | Its router selects among backends based on capability, cost, and region; the page identifies Cloudflare and Steel as live backends. It describes free access and usage-based browser-time pricing. |
| Browserless | BaaS WebSocket endpoint for existing Puppeteer or Playwright code; REST and GraphQL are separate task interfaces. | Cloud and Docker self-hosted deployment. Its platform page lists San Francisco, London, and Amsterdam. | Useful baseline if your reason for switching is unclear, or if self-hosting and its other interfaces matter. |

When Browserbase is worth evaluating
Evaluate Browserbase if you want a hosted browser with documented Puppeteer/CDP integration and operational features such as recording and observability. If your workload must run near India, ask the vendor about Asia-Pacific access for your account and measure the connection from your production environment; the cited description does not establish an Indian region or India-specific response time.

When BrowserCat is worth evaluating
Evaluate BrowserCat if a managed endpoint with backend routing is attractive. Confirm which backends are currently available to you and test session behavior under your own workload. Its global-edge and routing descriptions are vendor claims, not independent evidence of Indian latency, failover performance, or reliability.
When to stay with Browserless
Do not migrate just because another provider is available. Browserless remains relevant if its current behavior meets your need, if its Docker deployment fits your infrastructure policy, or if a REST/GraphQL task interface is more appropriate than maintaining a remote Puppeteer session. Its listed cloud locations and free allowance are volatile; check its platform page for current details.

How to choose for an Indian production workload
- Keep the test representative. Use the same Puppeteer script, target pages, and meaningful actions for every provider. Record the test date, workload, and where the job ran.
- Measure from the production location. Run trials from the environment that will execute the job, not only from a developer laptop. The browser provider’s location and the target site’s location both affect the network path; “India” alone does not predict latency.
- Track more than navigation time. Record completion rate, navigation and action latency, timeouts, concurrency, and browser or session failures. Repeat the same workload enough to see variability rather than relying on one successful run.
- Check the APIs your script uses. Verify Puppeteer/CDP compatibility against the exact methods and launch behavior your application needs. Also test authentication, downloads and uploads, persistent state, timeouts, and browser version where relevant. Vendor compatibility statements show intended support, not independent verification of your code.
- Estimate the bill from actual usage. Use your expected browser time or session units, concurrency, retries, proxy use, and plan limits. Confirm current rates, free allowances, currency conversion, applicable taxes, and payment terms directly with each provider; there is no established like-for-like Indian cost calculation here.
- Check deployment and data terms. If you need infrastructure ownership or data-placement commitments, compare Browserless’s documented Docker option with the hosted providers’ current VPC, private-cloud, residency, and contractual terms. Do not treat a regional endpoint as proof of residency.
Cost and performance: what is—and is not—known
The available vendor descriptions do not support naming a cheapest service for an Indian workload. BrowserCat describes free access and usage-based browser-time pricing, while Browserless lists a free monthly allowance; plan amounts, billable units, quotas, proxy charges, and terms should be checked on current vendor pages. Browserbase directs readers to its product and pricing information, but exact comparable costs depend on current plan details and your usage.
Nor is there an independent India-based comparison of latency, reliability, throughput, or cost for these providers. A vendor’s stated geography or global infrastructure does not substitute for a benchmark using your pages, concurrency, and production region. Treat measured results as specific to the date, workload, and deployment location you record.

Or skip the browser setup
If the job is simply to capture a website screenshot or PDF rather than run an interactive Puppeteer workflow, try ScreenshotNeo, a website screenshot API and MCP server from Yorker Media. Its API returns a screenshot or PDF from one GET request; it is a task-shaped alternative, not a remote Puppeteer browser. For API options and configuration, see the ScreenshotNeo documentation.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo says it accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; those steps can be turned off. Bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers identify the page verdict and whether the request was billed. An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use my existing Puppeteer code with Browserbase or BrowserCat?
Both vendors document Puppeteer/CDP connectivity. That is intended compatibility, not a guarantee that every method or launch option in your script will work unchanged; validate your actual code and session requirements.
Is Browserbase or BrowserCat faster from India?
The available product information does not establish that. Benchmark both from the environment where your production jobs will run, using the same script and target pages.
Does a screenshot API replace a Puppeteer browser session?
Not necessarily. A screenshot API is suited to a defined capture task; it is not a substitute for a Puppeteer-controlled session when your script needs multi-step interactions or branching.
