Use Browserless’s /screenshot REST endpoint to capture a page in one HTTP POST: pass your API token as the token query parameter, send the URL and screenshot options as JSON, then save the response bytes. The example below uses Python’s requests library and writes a PNG file. The workflow is the same for developers in India; the available documentation does not establish India-specific regions, latency, pricing, taxes, or payment methods.
Take a screenshot with Browserless in Python
Install the only dependency:
pip install requests
Set your Browserless token in an environment variable named BROWSERLESS_TOKEN, then save this script as screenshot.py:
import os
from pathlib import Path
import requests
TOKEN = os.environ["BROWSERLESS_TOKEN"]
ENDPOINT = "https://production-sfo.browserless.io/screenshot"
response = requests.post(
ENDPOINT,
params={"token": TOKEN},
headers={"Cache-Control": "no-cache"},
json={
"url": "https://example.com/",
"options": {"fullPage": True, "type": "png"},
},
timeout=120,
)
response.raise_for_status()
Path("screenshot.png").write_bytes(response.content)
Run it with python screenshot.py. If the request succeeds, the returned image bytes are saved as screenshot.png in the current directory. The endpoint and request shape follow Browserless’s Screenshot API and screenshot walkthrough. The timeout, HTTP error check, and environment variable are practical safeguards in this example; they are not requirements of the documented minimal request.
Keep the API token private
Do not put the token in a source file that may be committed or shared. Configure BROWSERLESS_TOKEN in your shell or deployment environment instead. For example, in a Unix-like shell, set it for the current session with export BROWSERLESS_TOKEN='your-token', then run the script in that same shell.

Choose REST or a connected browser session
| Approach | Best fit | What your script manages |
|---|---|---|
| Browserless REST screenshot request | A single, stateless page capture | One request with a URL, token, and capture options |
| Connected Playwright or Puppeteer browser | Captures that require interactions or browser state to be managed across multiple actions | A browser connection and the sequence of actions before taking the screenshot |
Browserless describes its REST APIs as single browser tasks and its walkthrough also demonstrates WebSocket connection patterns. Choose the connected approach when you need to interact with the page before capture; for a one-shot screenshot, the REST endpoint avoids managing that interaction sequence in your script. See the REST APIs overview and screenshot walkthrough.
Adjust the capture to the page
Start with the viewport screenshot, then add only the controls needed for the page and output you want. The documented screenshot API accepts Puppeteer-style screenshot options.

Capture the full page or a specific area
- Set
options.fullPagetotrueto capture beyond the visible viewport. - Use the top-level
selectorfield to target a page element. - Use
options.clipwhen you want a fixed rectangular portion of the page rather than an element.
Select the image format
Set options.type to a supported format such as png, jpeg, or webp. Make sure the filename extension you write matches the format you request.
Handle lazy-loaded content
Some pages load images or other elements only after the visitor scrolls. Browserless documents scrollPage: true to trigger loading; pair it with full-page capture when you need the complete page and its content appears during scrolling. A capture can otherwise be technically successful while still missing content that never loaded.

Wait for the page to be ready
The API documentation lists ways to wait for events, functions, selectors, or a timeout, along with navigation and request/resource filtering options. Use a selector or other readiness condition when you know what signals that the page is ready; use a timeout when a fixed delay is necessary. Avoid treating any one wait choice as a guarantee that every site’s dynamic content has finished rendering.
For the exact option names and request fields, consult the Screenshot API reference.

Diagnose blank, incomplete, or blocked captures
- The file is blank or shows an error page: inspect the image rather than treating an HTTP success as proof that the intended content loaded. The browser can only render what the target site makes available to it.
- The image contains a CAPTCHA or access-denied/403 page: the site may be blocking automation. Browserless documents an
/unblockendpoint for some bot-detection cases, but it is not a universal bypass. Follow the target site’s access rules. - Elements are missing: check whether the page needs more time, a selector-based wait, or scrolling to trigger lazy loading. Then test full-page capture if content extends below the viewport.
- The capture fails at the request level: confirm the token is present and valid, the endpoint is correct, and your network request has enough time to complete.
raise_for_status()surfaces HTTP error responses instead of saving them as if they were an image. - The file has the wrong format or cannot be opened: check that
options.typeand the output filename extension agree, and that the response was an image rather than an error response.
Browserless also supports rendering supplied HTML. Its documentation cautions against sending html and url together in the same request; use the input mode appropriate to your task rather than combining them.
What “from India” changes—and what it does not establish
The Python request pattern does not depend on being in a particular country. The available Browserless documentation cited here does not establish which service region is nearest or available to an Indian user, expected India-to-endpoint latency, current fees or taxes, or supported payment methods. Check your Browserless account and current billing information for those details rather than assuming a regional endpoint or a particular cost.

ScreenshotNeo offers a screenshot API and MCP server. A one-call Python example is:
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://example.com/"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. It accepts cookie and consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server provides screenshot tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card required; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots. Sign up for ScreenshotNeo’s free plan.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Browserless to capture a URL directly without running Playwright locally?
Yes. The documented REST screenshot endpoint accepts a URL and optional screenshot options in a single POST request.
Recommended Free Tools
Does a successful Browserless response guarantee I captured the page content I wanted?
No. The returned image may show a CAPTCHA, access-denied page, blank output, or incomplete content if the target blocks automation or has not loaded the needed elements.
Can I send HTML instead of a URL?
Browserless documents HTML rendering, but cautions not to include both `html` and `url` in the same request.
