For a webpage you can open in Linux, start with your browser’s Print → Save as PDF option. It keeps the page in your own browser and avoids uploading it to a conversion service. For pasted markup or a saved HTML file, choose a tool that explicitly accepts that input; for a public URL that needs more print controls, SelectPdf’s online demo is an option, with a five-page cap and watermark. These are recommendations from published product descriptions, not hands-on test results.

Which converter fits your HTML source?

“HTML to PDF” can mean printing a live page, rendering a local HTML document, or sending a public URL to an online converter. Those workflows differ in access, privacy, and how they handle scripts and remote assets.

Tool or workflow Input Where rendering happens, as described by the provider Important limits or considerations
Browser Print → Save as PDF A webpage open in your browser Your browser Print CSS, page breaks, backgrounds, and print-dialog settings affect output. PDF Tools Base’s URL flow opens the page in a new tab; it does not proxy or render the external page itself. Its pasted-HTML path extracts visible text into a text-only PDF. PDF Tools Base
PDF Edit Pasted markup or a dropped HTML file In the browser, according to the vendor Offers page size and orientation controls. The vendor says the HTML is not uploaded; this was not independently verified. It also points to the browser’s native print option for a page already open in Chrome. PDF Edit
Falcon PDF Pasted markup or a dropped HTML file Locally, according to the vendor Produces multi-page A4 output. Its locked iframe blocks external images, fonts, stylesheets, and scripts; inlined data-URI assets remain available. It cannot convert a live page by URL. Falcon PDF
SelectPdf online demo Public URL Chromium in the browser demo, according to the vendor Documents page size, orientation, PDF passwords, CSS print media, viewport, and load-timing settings. The demo is limited to five pages and adds a watermark. The page reviewed lists a separate REST API, a 200-conversion trial, and plans starting at $19/month; confirm current terms before relying on them. SelectPdf
PDFLinx Raw HTML, public webpage URL, or saved HTML file Headless-browser rendering, according to the vendor Advertises CSS, fonts, images, and layout support. URL conversion does not support login-protected pages; delayed or interaction-dependent JavaScript may not fully render. External images can fail in HTML-code mode; the vendor recommends base64-encoded images. Its HTTPS processing and deletion statements are vendor claims. PDFLinx

Save a live webpage as PDF in Linux

  1. Open the webpage in Firefox, Chrome, or another browser installed on your Linux system. For pages requiring an account, use the browser session where you are already signed in rather than a converter that only fetches public URLs.
  2. Open the print dialog with Ctrl+P, or use the browser menu’s Print command.
  3. Choose Save as PDF as the destination. The exact wording and available controls depend on the browser.
  4. Review the preview and any relevant settings, such as page size, orientation, margins, background graphics, and headers or footers. Page layout may differ from the on-screen view because sites can apply print-specific CSS.
  5. Save the file, then open it and check page breaks, images, text, and any content that loads dynamically.

This is a browser print workflow, not a service that fetches and captures arbitrary webpages. PDF Tools Base’s described URL flow likewise opens the URL in your browser; its separate pasted-HTML conversion produces text only rather than preserving the page’s styling.

Convert a local or pasted HTML document

PDF Edit for page settings

Use PDF Edit when you have markup to paste or an HTML file to drop into the tool, and want to choose page size and orientation before saving. The vendor says conversion runs in the browser and the HTML is not uploaded. Those are provider statements, not independently verified privacy findings.

Falcon PDF for self-contained documents

Falcon PDF accepts pasted HTML or a dropped file and produces multi-page A4 output, according to its product page. Its constrained iframe blocks remote stylesheets, fonts, images, and scripts, so a document that depends on those resources may look incomplete. Inline assets encoded as data URIs remain available. It does not accept a live URL.

Convert a public URL with more controls

SelectPdf demo

SelectPdf’s online demo accepts a public URL and documents controls for page size, orientation, passwords, print-media CSS, viewport dimensions, and load timing. Its five-page maximum and watermark make it more suitable for a short preview than an unrestricted export. The vendor says the generated PDF is streamed back and discarded; that is a service claim, not an independent privacy audit.

PDFLinx

PDFLinx advertises URL, raw-HTML, and saved-file inputs with headless-browser rendering. Its own FAQ says URL mode is for public pages, not login-protected ones, and that delayed or interaction-dependent JavaScript may not finish rendering. For HTML-code input, external images may fail; it recommends embedding them as base64 data URIs. Treat its claims about HTTPS processing, deletion, and rendering capabilities as statements from the provider rather than independently verified results.

Check privacy, access, and rendering before you choose

  • Match the input: a browser-open page, public URL, pasted markup, and local HTML file are different cases. Confirm the tool accepts the one you actually have.
  • Know where processing occurs: browser-native printing and tools described as browser-local keep processing on your side according to their vendors. Online URL services process supplied URLs through a service. Vendor privacy assurances have not been independently audited here.
  • Account for assets and scripts: print CSS, page breaks, fonts, images, JavaScript timing, and viewport size all affect the result. A tool that blocks external resources cannot include those resources unless they are embedded.
  • Check output limits: page caps, watermarks, paper size, orientation, margins, and trial or subscription terms can decide whether a tool fits your job.
  • Inspect the PDF: for JavaScript-heavy pages or documents with external assets, review the output before using it as a record or distributing it.

Troubleshooting common conversion problems

The PDF is missing images, fonts, or styling

Check whether the HTML depends on external assets and whether the chosen tool can load them. Falcon PDF blocks external resources in its described iframe; PDFLinx says external images can fail in HTML-code mode and recommends data URIs. For browser printing, confirm that the page has finished loading and inspect print-specific styles and background settings.

A URL converter cannot see the page

Some URL workflows handle public pages only. PDFLinx explicitly says login-protected pages are unsupported. Open a private page in your own browser and use Print → Save as PDF instead of submitting its URL to a public-URL converter.

Content is absent or cut off

Dynamic content may depend on scrolling, interaction, or delayed JavaScript. A page-limit can also truncate a long document: SelectPdf’s demo documents a five-page maximum. Try browser printing for a page already loaded in your session, or use a converter whose documented controls suit the page; always review the resulting pages.

The output is plain text instead of a styled page

Check the workflow’s input mode. PDF Tools Base describes its pasted-HTML path as extracting visible text into a text-only PDF, not rendering the original styled document. Use a tool that accepts HTML as a document if preserving layout is required.

Or skip the browser setup

If your goal is a screenshot of a webpage rather than a PDF, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. It returns PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF output from a GET request; it is a screenshot workflow, not a general-purpose HTML-to-PDF editor.

One-call example (see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation):

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers report the page verdict and whether the request was billed. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.
