To capture a site at a mobile-width viewport with CaptureKit, send an authenticated GET request to https://api.capturekit.dev/v1/capture with the page URL and an explicit viewport_width in CSS pixels. Set viewport_height if the visible vertical area matters. The documented default width is 1280 pixels, so do not rely on the default for a mobile-width capture.
Make a mobile-width capture with CaptureKit
First obtain an API key from the CaptureKit dashboard. The endpoint requires it in the x-api-key request header; keep the key private. Then request the page with your chosen viewport dimensions.
- Choose the viewport width you want to reproduce, in CSS pixels. The dimensions below, 390 by 844, are illustrative choices—not a CaptureKit requirement or a claim about a specific current phone model.
- Choose whether you need only the initially visible viewport or the entire page.
full_pagedefaults tofalse, which is appropriate for a screenshot of the visible viewport. - Run the request with a real API key and the complete target URL.

Its endpoint reference also lists WebP, JPEG/JPG, and PDF. Check the CaptureKit endpoint documentation for current parameter names, defaults, and supported device profiles before relying on them.
Choose custom dimensions or a device preset

These are different ways to specify the capture environment: numeric dimensions directly express a viewport size, while device selects a named emulation profile. Use the endpoint documentation to confirm the exact supported preset name rather than guessing one.

Decide whether to capture the viewport or the full page
Viewport width and page scope are separate settings. Leave full_page off for the initial mobile-width screen. Set full_page=true when you need the complete page rather than just the visible viewport. CaptureKit’s documentation also lists scroll-related behavior for loading lazy content during full-page captures; consult its current endpoint reference when using that behavior.
Adjust format and page loading
Image or PDF output
PNG is the documented default. WebP, JPEG/JPG, and PDF are listed alternatives; image_quality is documented for supported lossy image formats. Use a format suited to the downstream task: for example, a lossy image format when smaller image output matters, or PDF when a document-style result is needed. The available formats do not change the viewport dimensions.

Wait for the page to render
For pages whose content appears asynchronously, CaptureKit lists wait_until choices including domcontentloaded, load, networkidle0, and networkidle2. It also documents a delay and wait_for_selector. Choose based on how the target page loads: a selector can be useful when a particular element signals readiness, while a delay is a fixed pause. No single setting guarantees correct rendering on every site.
Target or clean up specific page content
When the task calls for it, the endpoint reference lists an element selector, remove_selectors, remove_ads, resource blocking, and URL blocking. These options can change what appears in the result, but they are not needed simply to set a mobile-width viewport.

Troubleshoot common problems
- The result is desktop-width. The documented viewport-width default is 1280 pixels. Pass an explicit, narrower
viewport_widthand check that the parameter is spelled correctly. - The request is unauthorized. Confirm that you have a valid key and are sending it as the
x-api-keyheader, as required by CaptureKit’s official documentation. Do not put the secret key in public client-side code. - The page is cut off vertically. Check whether the intended result is only the visible viewport or a full-page capture. Set
viewport_heightto control the initial viewport height; enablefull_pagewhen the whole document is needed. - Some content is missing. If it loads asynchronously or appears only after scrolling, try a documented wait control such as
wait_until,delay, orwait_for_selector. For a full-page capture with lazy content, consult the endpoint documentation for its scroll-related options. - The result does not match a particular device. A custom width and height set numeric viewport dimensions; they do not by themselves establish an exact device emulation. Use a supported named
devicepreset when that is the goal.
