ScreenshotNeo is the first service to try if you want clean captures, clear billing for failed pages, and a documented webhook feature set. For webhook behavior specifically documented by vendors, ScreenshotOne, Urlbox, and Browshot each describe callbacks for screenshot jobs, but they differ in result delivery, verification, and retry details. There is no verified head-to-head evidence here for price, speed, or reliability, so choose by integration requirements rather than an unsupported overall performance ranking.
What to compare in a screenshot API webhook
A webhook lets your application continue other work while a screenshot job runs, then receive a POST when the provider reports a result. Before choosing an API, check what events it sends, how the payload points to the image, how you verify the sender, and whether failed deliveries are retried.
- Outcome coverage: Does the callback cover successful jobs, errors, or both?
- Result retrieval: Does the payload contain an image URL, storage location, or an identifier you must use to fetch the image?
- Security and delivery: Is there a signature to verify? Are retries documented?
- Capture requirements: Confirm full-page or element capture, PDF output, authentication, and rendering options against current provider documentation.
The services below are compared on documented features, not tested latency, reliability, or image fidelity. Current prices and plan limits are not established here; consult each vendor’s current terms before selecting a service.

ScreenshotOne: async result delivery and signature verification
ScreenshotOne documents a flow where a request runs asynchronously, stores the screenshot in S3-compatible storage, and POSTs the file location to your configured endpoint. Its documentation describes returning promptly while processing continues. To request the stored location, the documented example uses async=true, webhook_url, store=true, response_type=json, and storage_return_location=true. Without storage, a JSON response can include screenshot_url; without JSON response type, the response body is binary.
For authenticity checks, verify X-ScreenshotOne-Signature using HMAC SHA-256 and the secret key from the access page. ScreenshotOne says this secret differs from the API key and should not be shared. If your application needs error callbacks, set webhook_errors=true; by default, webhook errors are not sent. The documentation describes the purpose this way: “Using webhooks with ScreenshotOne allows you to deliver the results of the request execution to your URL as a POST body.”

Urlbox: callbacks for success and errors
Urlbox documents passing a webhook_url option and receiving a POST when rendering finishes or errors. Its example shows a render.succeeded event, a render ID, and a result object containing a render URL. Use the render identifier to correlate the callback with the job in your application, and validate the current payload schema against Urlbox’s webhook documentation.
Capture shape may affect your workflow: Urlbox documents full-page and element-specific screenshots. For full-page capture, it normally scrolls the page to load lazy content and establish the final scrollable height; skip_scroll disables that behavior. This is useful to account for when a target page has scroll-triggered content, but it is a capture behavior, not a guarantee about any particular site’s rendering.

Browshot: finished or error notifications with documented retries
Browshot’s API documentation describes a hook parameter that specifies a callback URL. It POSTs when a screenshot reaches finished or error status; the body contains the JSON returned by screenshot/info. Browshot says it may retry delivery up to two times. Because this documentation appeared in an older search crawl, confirm the current parameter and retry behavior in the Browshot API documentation before depending on it operationally.

Webhook integration checklist
- Give each job a correlation ID. Store the provider job or render ID with your own request record so an incoming callback can be matched to the right task.
- Make the handler idempotent. A webhook may be delivered more than once, especially when retries are possible. Record processed event IDs or job states and avoid creating duplicate downstream work.
- Verify signatures before trusting data. For ScreenshotOne, follow its documented HMAC SHA-256 procedure and keep the signing secret separate from API credentials. Do not assume another provider uses the same header or signature format.
- Return promptly, process afterward. Acknowledge a valid callback quickly, then queue image retrieval, storage, or further processing so a slow downstream operation does not hold up webhook delivery.
- Handle both success and error states. Decide whether provider-specific error callbacks are enabled and define a recoverable application state for timeouts, rejected pages, and rendering failures.
- Keep payloads and credentials private. Validate the callback source as supported by the provider, avoid logging secrets, and do not expose public image URLs if the capture contains sensitive data.
- Test delivery recovery. Exercise duplicate callbacks, delayed callbacks, invalid signatures, and your own endpoint downtime in a staging environment; do not infer undocumented retry rules.
Performance, reliability, and cost considerations
Asynchronous jobs keep a request handler from waiting for a full page render, but they introduce callback handling, state tracking, and image retrieval as separate steps. Plan for out-of-order or repeated notifications in your own system; the cited documentation does not establish comparative delivery latency or service reliability.
Compare pricing only after checking the vendor’s current plan page and terms. The material available for ScreenshotOne, Urlbox, and Browshot does not establish comparable current prices or quotas. ScreenshotNeo’s stated plans are 1,000 shots per month free with no card, then $5 for 3,000, $15 for 15,000, $39 for 60,000, $99 for 250,000, and $249 for 1,000,000; yearly billing gives two months free. Its billing model charges only clean shots, with bot checks, CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits costing nothing.
Or skip the browser setup
Use ScreenshotNeo’s API for a one-call capture:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot. Bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. An MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. For async jobs and signed webhook setup, see the API documentation.
