For an initial test, use delay=2000 (2 seconds), then inspect the image and adjust. This is a timer—not a signal that JavaScript has finished, the network is idle, or a particular element is ready.
Use ScreenshotMachine’s delay parameter
Send a GET request to ScreenshotMachine’s API with your account key, target URL, and a supported delay. The API documentation describes the delay as the time the capture engine waits before creating the screenshot: ScreenshotMachine API documentation.
- Get an API key by signing up with ScreenshotMachine.
- Choose a delay. The default is 200 milliseconds. Supported values are
0,200,400,600,800,1000, and2000through10000in 1,000-millisecond increments. - Set the target URL and output dimensions. For example,
1024xfullrequests a full-page image at a width of 1,024 pixels. - URL-encode query values, especially URLs and selectors containing reserved characters such as
#. - Open the returned image and check whether the content you need is present. If it is not, try a longer supported delay and capture again.
Example request
The vendor’s API example uses a two-second delay. Replace the key and URL with your own values; this request saves the response to a file:

Understand what “after JavaScript loads” means here
A fixed delay gives a page additional time to render; it does not establish that rendering is complete. A page may finish quickly, take longer than the selected interval, or remain stalled. The documented ScreenshotMachine API options do not describe waiting for a named JavaScript promise, a network-idle condition, or a selector to become ready.
Use the delay as a practical tuning control: start with the documented 2,000-millisecond example, inspect the result, and increase it when the page still shows placeholders or missing content. The maximum documented delay is 10,000 milliseconds; that limit is not a guarantee that every page will be ready within ten seconds.

Set the capture size and handle overlays
Choose a device and dimensions
The API documents the device values desktop, phone, and tablet. Choose the device and dimensions to match the output you need. A full-page height can be requested with a dimension such as 1024xfull. The vendor suggests allowing more time—such as 2,000 milliseconds or longer—for long pages with images or animation.
Click or hide elements
The API also documents click and hide controls. Use click to trigger a selected element before capture, for example a consent button; use hide to suppress an element such as an overlay. These controls interact with or change the visible output; they are not documented as readiness checks. Encode selector values correctly, particularly when they contain reserved characters.

Capture a specific element or region
Use selector to capture a matched DOM element, or crop to capture a rectangle. These options change what appears in the result, not when ScreenshotMachine considers JavaScript finished.
Use the online generator instead
If you do not want to construct an API request, ScreenshotMachine’s online generator lets you enter a URL, choose a device and dimensions, enable full-page capture, set zoom and image format, and specify a delay. It also offers controls to click or hide elements, capture a matched DOM element, or crop a rectangle. The generator describes its default wait as two seconds. Those controls do not turn the timer into a JavaScript-completion test.

Troubleshoot incomplete, incorrect, or stale screenshots
The page still shows a placeholder or missing content
Increase delay to another supported value and inspect a fresh result. A fixed wait can be too short for a slow page, and the API does not document a condition that confirms a specific component has rendered.
The image is an error result
Check the X-Screenshotmachine-Response header as well as the image. The API documentation lists response codes including invalid_key, missing_url, invalid_url, no_credits, and invalid_selector. Correct the corresponding key, URL, account credits, or selector issue, then retry.

The capture shows old page content
ScreenshotMachine documents a default cache limit of 14 days. Set cacheLimit=0 to force a fresh screenshot, or use an appropriate cache limit when testing pages that change. The vendor says cached screenshots are stored for 14 days and cached loads are not billed; check the current service terms and pricing for applicable conditions.
A long or animated page is incomplete
Full-page captures can include more images and animation than a viewport capture. Try a longer supported delay and check whether the missing section has loaded in the result. More waiting may help, but cannot guarantee completion if the page is slow or stalled.
Performance, reliability, and cost considerations
- Wait time: A longer fixed delay adds time to each capture, even when a page renders quickly. A shorter delay can produce incomplete captures on slower pages.
- Freshness: Cached results can make a changing page appear unchanged. Set the cache limit deliberately when verifying current content.
- Credits and errors: The documented
no_creditsresponse indicates an account-credit issue; inspect the response header rather than treating every returned image as a successful capture. - Pricing: At the time of the referenced vendor pricing information, ScreenshotMachine listed a free tier of 100 fresh screenshots per month, Basic at €9/month for 2,500, Pro at €59/month for 20,000, and Enterprise at €99/month for 50,000. These are vendor-listed offers, not guaranteed future prices; confirm current details on the pricing page.
